North Carolina A&T is moving out of the conference of historically black colleges that it formed nearly 50 years ago to the Big South Conference, school officials announced Friday. The school's 13 trustees voted to leave the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference on June 30, 2021, and move to the Big South the next day. University leaders said A&T is making the move primarily to help student-athletes by significantly reducing time spent traveling to games. While the Big South's three football-only schools are in Alabama, Georgia and New Jersey, the conference's 11 current full-time members are all located in the Carolinas and Virginia. - AP College Football

Kylil Carter passed for six touchdowns and North Carolina A&T racked up enormous offensive totals to beat Alcorn State 64-44 in the Celebration Bowl on Saturday for the Aggies' third consecutive HBCU national championship title. Carter completed 18 of 30 passes for 364 yards, and added 96 on the ground. Korey Banks and Elijah Bell each caught a pair of scoring passes for NCA&T, which has beaten Alcorn State in three of the five Celebration Bowls - including two straight. Alcorn State quarterback Felix Harper passed for 341 yards and three scores, but the Braves trailed 24-10 at halftime and NCA&T steadily stacked points from there. The teams combined for 49 points in the third quarter, when NCA&T scored touchdowns on its first four possessions of the period and Alcorn State banked touchdowns on its first three drives. The Aggies rolled to 290 yards in the quarter, and Alcorn State added 238. - AP College Football

2019 ALL-MEAC FIRST TEAM (COACHES): OL Marcus Pettiford, r-Sr., North Carolina A&T State,...Pettiford follows 2018 winner Micah Shaw and Brandon Parker who won offensive lineman of the year three straight seasons from 2015-2017 as consecutive winners from N.C. A&T. Pettiford is now a three-time first-team All-MEAC lineman as he helped the Aggies have the No. 1 total offense, scoring offense and rushing offense in the conference. Pettiford is considered one of the best linemen in FCS football. He earned FCS first-team preseason lineup honors from College Football America Yearbook's. He has played 521 snaps this season and led the team with 27 domination blocks while having only one flag thrown against him. He graded out at 88 percent for the season. "Marcus has overcome a lot in his career to get to this point," said N.C. A&T coach Sam Washington. "He was expected to be a leader coming into this season and he did just that. Guys follow him because he always plays hard. This young man's ceiling is very high." Pettiford was out of school during the 2016 season because of academics. Pettiford worked hard to get himself back in school through the university's learning specialist to make the Dean's List. - North Carolina A&T Football
