  Seth Morgan threw for 463 yards and three touchdowns and VMI scored the final 19 points to sneak past Samford 46-45 on Saturday. Samford had a 45-27 lead with 4:34 remaining in the third quarter after a 16-play, 76-yard drive. But VMI answered with touchdown drives on its next three possessions, capped by Morgan's 7-yard completion to Michael Jackson at 3:14. VMI forced a turnover on downs but punted three plays later to give Samford another chance. The Keydets sealed it when Alex Oliver forced a fumble and Ethan Caselberry recovered. Hunter Rice and Rashad Raymond each had a rushing touchdown for VMI (6-2, 4-1 Southern), which clinched back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 1961-62. The teams combined for 1,169 total yards. Liam Welch passed for 365 yards and one touchdown, and he ran it 14 times for 68 yards and two scores for Samford (3-5, 2-4).   Bret Edwards threw a pair of touchdowns to Brian Espanet and New Hampshire overtook Lafayette in the second half for a 19-13 win on Saturday and remain undefeated. Dylan Laube found the edge and raced down the right sideline for a 50-yard touchdown to expand the Wildcats' lead to 19-10 on the second play of the final quarter. Micah Pettit kicked a 41-yard field goal to cut Lafayette's deficit to 19-13 with under two minutes remaining but the Leopards failed to recover an onside kick. Lafayette's Michael Haynes took the opening kickoff and returned it down the right sideline 93 yards for a touchdown.

Edwards threw a 3-yard TD pass to Espanet in the second quarter but the PAT failed and Lafayette led at the half 7-6. Edwards scrambled toward the right sideline before finding Espanet at the goal line and a 14-yard score to take the lead at 12-7 in the third quarter after a two-point try failed. Edwards was 22 of 37 for 249 passing including his two touchdowns to Espanet, who made six catches for 57 yards. Laube added six catches for 64 yards and 10 carries for 79 yards for New Hampshire (3-0), which came in ranked No. 23 in FBS polls.   Bret Edwards threw two touchdown passes to lead New Hampshire to a 26-14 victory over Towson on Saturday night. Edwards was 24-of-32 passing for 261 yards. He tossed a 54-yard touchdown pass to Sean Coyne late in the second quarter to give New Hampshire (2-0, 2-0 Colonial Athletic Association) a 20-7 halftime lead. Edwards' 2-yard TD throw to Dylan Laube capped the scoring with 10:00 minutes left. Evan Horn had two of the Wildcats' four interceptions. New Hampshire coach Sean McDonnell collected his 100th win with the Wildcats. Makai Self ran for a 2-yard touchdown, ending a 15-play, 74-yard drive that pulled Towson (1-1, 0-1) to 13-7 in the second quarter. The senior safety recorded a team-high 10 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss (-17 yds.), one sack, two forced fumbles, two pass breakups and an interception, which he returned 65 yards.   Bret Edwards threw three touchdown passes, two to Brian Espanet, and New Hampshire held off Stony Brook for a 27-21 victory in a season and Colonial Athletic Association opener Thursday night. Edwards started in place of Max Brosmer who was lost for the season with a torn ACL suffered in camp. Edwards made one start in 2019 before losing the job to Brosmer. Edwards, who finished 17-of-25 passing, sandwiched two short first-half TD passes to Kyle Lepkowski and Espanet around a 4-yard rushing score by Sean Coyne. Edwards connected with Espanet for a 64-yard touchdown midway through the third quarter to lead 27-0. Stony Brook rallied to get within six points and started its final drive with two minutes remaining from its own 44 but three incomplete passes finished a nine-play drive at the UNH 19 with 18 seconds left.   Evan Horn, the former Cedar Crest multi-sport star, is transferring from the University of New Hampshire to play football at a Football Bowl Subdivision school in the fall of 2021. Horn played safety and a hybrid safety/linebacker spot for the Wildcats from 2017-19, and graduated last spring.   2020 PHIL STEELE/DRAFTSCOUT All-CAA FIRST TEAM: DB Evan Horn, New Hampshire, Sr.,...Horn, a 2019 Phil Steele All-CAA Third Team selection, led the Wildcats in total tackles (70) and solo tackles (51), including 4.0 sacks, from his starting safety position last season. The 6-foot, 206-pound DB notched a team-leading four interceptions, five pass breakups, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Among his season highlights were a 50-yard Pick-6 against Elon on Oct. 5, and in the Nov. 23 win against Maine, a career-high 11 tackles, including 10 solo stops, a personal-best two sacks and a forced fumble to help return the Brice-Cowell Musket to the UNH locker room. The 5-foot-9, 193-pound placekicker made 14 of 17 field goal attempts (82.4 percent), including 7-for-8 from 40-plus yards, to set the school's all-time record for single-season kick percentage. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound middle linebacker had a monster game in the home win against Elon with career highs in tackles (8.0) and sacks (3.0) to go along with a 55-yard interception return for a touchdown.
