The redshirt junior completed 10-of-16 passes for 157 yards and carried the ball 11 times for 81 yards, scoring on runs of 28, 1, 5 and 1 yards. His four rushing touchdowns tied the Murray State single-game record, accomplished 10 times previously. The four rushing scores were the most by a FCS player during Week 1.   Preston Rice had four touchdown runs to lead Murray State to a 35-0 victory over Mississippi Valley State in the season opener for both teams on Thursday night. Rice broke loose for a 28-yard score on the Racers' third play from scrimmage and later added three TD runs from inside the 5. He finished with 81 yards rushing on 11 carries and was 10-of-16 passing for 157 yards. Cortezz Jones carried the ball 10 times for 107 yards. Quinaz Turner and Davontae McKee each had an interception for the Racers. Mississippi Valley State was held to 162 yards of offense and didn't cross midfield in the second half. With Southeast Missouri trailing 17-7, the Redhawks’ Al Young caught a shanked punt a yard behind the line of scrimmage and returned it 10 yards to the Murray State 30. The short field led to a touchdown plunge by Zion Custis. A minute later, Shabari Davis returned an interception 33 yards for the lead. A celebration penalty following Davis' score resulted in Murray State starting a drive at the Redhawks' 49. The Racers converted a fourth-and-5 on a 12-yard slant to Dequan Dallas down to the 3.   Preston Rice threw for one touchdown and ran for another and Murray State beat UT Martin 14-10 in a spring opener Sunday to give Dean Hood his first win as the Racers' new head coach. Hood has returned to the Ohio Valley Conference where he served as head coach at Eastern Kentucky for eight years (2008-15). Murray State led 7-3 with six seconds left in the third quarter when the game was delayed for over two hours because of lightning in the area.
