  11/27/19 - Troy AndersenSr/2022, Montana State, 6-4, 243 (DS#4 OLB) + More +

2019 ALL-BIG SKY CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM (COACHES): Outside Linebacker, Troy Andersen, Junior, Montana State,...Andersen logged 11.5 tackles-for-loss with 6.5 sacks this season in time limited by injury. He reeled in all-league honors at linebacker, but also rushed for 336 yards and seven touchdowns as a wildcat-style quarterback. He finished fifth in the league in sacks and sixth in tackles-for-loss in spite of the playing time restrictions. He and Hill join a list of elite Bobcat linebackers - Mac Bignell, Alex Singleton, and Jody Owens (twice) - as first team all-league selections this decade. "It's awesome that Troy gets recognized as one of the best players in this league," Choate said. "I think he's one of the best 11 so he deserves to be a first team player." - Montana State Football

2019 ALL-BIG SKY CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM (COACHES): All-Purpose, Travis Jonsen, Senior, Montana State,...Jonsen played a role reflective of his landing the all-purpose spot. He rushed for 432 yards, third on the team, with 471 receiving yards, second on the squad. He operated out of the quarterback spot multiple times every game in addition to his role as a receiver. He proved to be a dependable, versatile offensive weapon. "Especially in the absence of Troy in a couple of games, the value that Travis brought to our run game, coupled with his ability to stretch the field vertically and quite honestly his tenacious coverage on special teams makes him the definition of an all-purpose player," Choate said. "That was kind of the Troy Andersen award that was crealted last year because no knew where to put Troy and we didn't have an all-purpose player (position on the All-Big Sky team). I think that's a great way to honor Travis on the first team on offense." - Montana State Football

  11/27/19 - Mitch BrottSr/2020, Montana State, 6-5, 300 (DS#48 OT) + More +

2019 ALL-BIG SKY CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM (COACHES): Offensive Line Mitch Brott, Senior, Montana State,...Brott becomes the first MSU offensive tackle selected since John Weidenaar, an appropriate honor because Brott is two games from matching Weidenaar's Bobcat record of 49 career and consecutive starts in the Blue and Gold and Brott, from Billings, has tabbed the Manhattan product as a mentor during his redshirt season in 2015. Brott anchored the league's top offensive line.

MSU led the Big Sky in rushing by a wide margin, and allowed the fewest sacks. "I think he's been one of the one of the most consistent players in this league," Choate said of Brott. "Number of starts alone shows that and it's awesome for him to be recognized as one of the best offensive linemen in one of the best leagues in the country. I honestly think if we had a lineman of the year he would be the guy in this league. I'm happy for him, he's very deserving, and if you get this honor you can have the opportunity be an All-American. I think he's that caliber of player." - Montana State Football

  11/24/19 - Bryce SterkSr/2020, Montana State, 6-4, 262 (DS#20 DE) + More +

Fresh off Saturday's 48-14 win over the University of Montana, the Bobcat football team received more good news on Sunday. Montana State's season-closing four-game win streak propelled the team to the fifth seed in the 2019 FCS Playoffs, and a first-round bye. The Cats, now 9-3 overall and 6-2 in Big Sky play, host the winner of the Albany-Central Connecticut State game next Saturday. Game won't be available until next week. The first-round playoff bye is MSU's first since 2012. "You get on one side of the bracket or you get on the other side of the bracket," Choate said moments after his team's draw was announce. "With four seeded teams from the Big Sky Conference, in a quarterfinal matchup there's the potential for all four of us to play one another. We're going to play (one of) a couple of teams from the east coast (in the second round) so weather isn't as big of a factor (for the opponent). They're going to have some weather they have to contend with, but they do have to travel a good ways. We'll start digging in on those two and see what we can find out about them."

Choate is gratified that the Big Sky Conference, considered by many at the top of the FCS in terms of top-end teams, earned four seeds among the tournament's top six. Weber State enters the Playoffs seeded third, Sacramento State is fourth, the Cats fifth, and Montana sixth. "They mentioned it a couple of times (on the selection show), they talked about three-loss teams (earning seeds). But two of the losses Weber has are to FBS opponents, one of Montana's losses is to an FBS opponent, one of our losses is to an FBS opponent. (Sacramento State also lost to two FBS opponents.) We beat each other up a little bit, but I think the committee recognized the quality of the league overall and rewarded us with those seeds." - Montana State Football

Isaiah Ifanse ran for 171 yards and three touchdowns to lead Montana State to a resounding 48-14 win over Montana on Saturday in the 119th Cat-Griz game. Montana fumbled on its first play and never recovered as MSU scored on its first five possession to jump out to a 31-7 lead midway through the second quarter. The win was the biggest margin in the rivalry game for the Bobcats (9-3, 6-2 Big Sky Conference) since 1966 when they won 38-0. The Grizzlies (9-3, 6-2) scored on consecutive possessions in the first half but that was all they could muster in the game between Top 10 FCS teams. The Bobcats ran for 382 yards and had 488 total yards. Logan Jones has 19 carries for 121 yards and one touchdown. Flanker Tyrone Marshall ran for another 81 yards on eight carries and one touchdown. Marcus Knight ran for both touchdowns for Montana and has 21 total touchdowns, which is third in school history. Bryce Sterk had four tackles for loss, including 2.5 sacks, for Montana State. - AP College Football

  11/09/19 - Troy AndersenSr/2022, Montana State, 6-4, 243 (DS#4 OLB) + More +

Troy Andersen threw for a touchdown and ran for another, Callahan O'Reilly had a 73-yard touchdown run and Montana State pounded Northern Colorado 45-14 on Saturday. O'Reilly's burst up the middle early in the third quarter, his only carry of the game, to put an exclamation mark on the Bobcats' running game, which piled up 452 yards. Three quarterbacks combined to go 14 of 21 for 113 yards for Montana State (7-3, 4-2 Big Sky Conference). Northern Colorado (2-7, 2-3) tied the game at 7 on a 10-yard interception return by Brooks Talkington late in the first quarter but the Bobcats scored the next 42 points.

Tucker Rovig, victimized by the pick six, completed a 75-yard drive with an 8-yard TD pass to Derryk Snell. After a field goal, Andersen, who capped MSU's opening possession with a 2-yard pass to Jason Scrempos, ended a short drive with an 11-yard run and a 24-7 halftime lead. Montana State opened the second half with a 1-yard TD run by Logan Jones, set up by his 57-yard run. O'Reilly's score came next and Lane Sumner had a 16-yard touchdown in early in the fourth. Jones finished with 122 yards on 11 carries. Rovig was 10 of 15 for 77 yards. Northern Colorado had 242 yards of offense, 220 through the air.
