Mississippi State football players are making their own foray into the name, image and likeness space. What dozens of Bulldogs teased Tuesday on social media launched Wednesday afternoon: the new Starkville NIL Club, a player-led fan community aimed at generating money to be distributed evenly across MSU's roster. More than 95 players are participating in the club, according to a joint statement tweeted out by countless MSU players slightly before 2 p.m. Tuesday. Fans must give $5 or more per month for a subscription to the club. Those who subscribe are slated to receive exclusive chat rooms; message boards; player-recorded content on past games, upcoming matchups, practice updates, film breakdowns and more; and opportunities for digital meet-and-greets, Q&As and interviews with players. - The Dispatch

2022 PRESEASON DOAK WALKER AWARD CANDIDATE: Keyvone Lee (So.), Penn State,...Listed as a 2022 sophomore, Penn State running back Keyvone Lee (6-0, 234) lists his major as DUS, which means Division of Undergraduate Studies, which basically means he has not declared a major, although Penn State offers more than 160 choices. While he sorts that out, Lee is working the Covid era system so he is going into his third season as a sophomore. The school lists 2020 as his "true freshman" year and he appeared in nine games with three starts. So 2021 is listed as his freshman season (would that be an untrue freshman season?) and he played in 13 games with four starts, finishing with 530 yards rushing. Good enough to put him on watch lists while he ponders which of the 160 majors he may declare. - Penn State Football

For the first time in Big 12 history, defending champion Baylor is the preseason pick to win the conference football title. In media voting released Thursday, Baylor received 17 first-place votes and 365 points to edge perennial favorite Oklahoma, which had 12 first-place votes and 354 points. The Sooners were followed by Oklahoma State, Texas and Kansas State. Baylor is coming off a 12-2 finish that included a dramatic Big 12 championship game win over Oklahoma State and a Sugar Bowl victory over Mississippi. The Bears placed five players on the preseason all-Big 12 team but will have to replace standout running backs Abram Smith and Trestan Ebner and will have a new quarterback.   Stone Blanton was an absolute coup for Beamer and the Gamecocks. It's hard to overstate how rare it is to snag kids like Blanton out of Mississippi when Ole Miss and Mississippi State are both involved in the recruiting process. But here we are. Blanton is a bit of an old-school thumper at linebacker, yet versatile enough that he was a two-sport standout in baseball and football in high school. He's had some injury issues in recent years, and that's part of why his recruiting ranking dropped from the high-200s to the low-300s, though he's still a four-star recruit in the 247Sports Composite that factors in all network rankings.

South Carolina has some needs at linebacker given the thin depth behind Brad Johnson and Sherrod Greene. Mo Kaba should be a big piece this fall. Debo Williams, too, came on strong at the end of last year and should factor into the equation. Blanton may not be in the regular mix at linebacker immediately, but he's a good bet to make an impact on special teams. Emmanwori is an absolute freak of an athlete and one who could find his way into the lineup if only because he's such a unicorn. The Irmo product recorded roughly a million tackles during his high school career - OK, I'm exaggerating a bit - and could see time at just about any position from edge to safety at the college level. - Rock Hill Herald

Kansas State linebacker transfer Branden Jennings has received a waiver from the NCAA for immediate eligibility to play this season at UCF, a team spokesperson confirmed to the Orlando Sentinel on Friday night. Jennings, who began his college career at Maryland, was a 4-star linebacker out of Sandalwood in Jacksonville during the 2021 recruiting cycle. While athletes are allowed to transfer without sitting out a season thanks to the one-time transfer rule approved by the NCAA in April 2021, Jennings needed special clearance because he had changed schools once before.

After a freshman season in the Big Ten with the Terrapins in which Jennings totaled 23 tackles (17 solo), 1 tackle for loss and forced a fumble in eight games, he entered the NCAA transfer portal in November. The 6-foot-3, 235-pound linebacker spent the spring semester at Kansas State before entering the portal a second time in April. Last month following a visit to campus, Jennings committed to the Knights and enrolled for the summer as UCF became his third college in less than two years. - Orlando Sentinel

The Michigan transfer defensive back is headed to Starkville after two seasons with the Wolverines. He appeared in eight games last season and recorded one tackle. He redshirted his freshman season of 2020. Morant attended Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, New Jersey. He was a four-star prospect, according to the 247Sports composite. - The Clarion Ledger

After going through the NCAA transfer portal process for a second time, Branden Jennings has finally settled on a destination. The linebacker announced he will be playing for head coach Gus Malzhan and the UCF Knights during the 2022 season. Jennings played last year with the Maryland Terrapins as a true freshman but left the program in favor of the Kansas State Wildcats. By the time mid-April came around, Jennings reentered his name in the transfer portal for the second time in the same cycle. Now, the Jacksonville, FL native will return to his home state of play for UCF. Jennings played in eight games last season with Maryland, having 23 tackles, a tackle for loss, and a forced fumble. He left the program after the year finished and went through spring practice with the Wildcats. - Orlando Sentinel and On3
