It has been a successful end to the season for Mississippi State football defensive coordinator Zach Arnett. It started last week when Arnett's unit held Ole Miss to a season-low 78 rushing yards en route to a 24-22 Egg Bowl win. It has extended into this week with linebacker Nathaniel Watson and defensive linemen Jaden Crumedy, Nathan Pickering and Jordan Davis announcing they're returning next season for their final years of eligibility.

Linebacker Jett Johnson joined the mix by announcing Friday his intent to return as well. He has one season left due to the extra COVID-19 season granted to athletes by the NCAA. The Tupelo native led Mississippi State in tackles (86) last season and was second behind Watson this season with 103. Johnson had seven tackles for loss, three quarterback hurries and two fumble recoveries this season. Johnson joined Mississippi State in 2018 out of Tupelo High School. He redshirted his freshman season and appeared in five games over the next two years. - The Clarion Ledger

Mississippi State football defensive back Emmanuel Forbes is foregoing his senior season and has declared for the 2023 NFL Draft, he announced via social media Thursday night. "Deciding to play for Mississippi State has been one of the best decisions I have ever made," Forbes wrote. "I have grown off the field just as much as I have developed on it." Forbes did not announce anything regarding his status for MSU's bowl game. Forbes' six interceptions this season are tied for the most in the nation. He returned three of those for touchdowns. Of his 14 career interceptions, six have been returned for touchdowns - an FBS record.

Forbes is a native of Grenada and attended Grenada High School, where he was a four-star prospect, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. This marks the second straight season MSU has had a corner forego his senior season for the NFL. Last season, Martin Emerson did so and was taken in the third round of the NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. Forbes' decision comes amidst a successful week for MSU's defense. Linebacker Nathaniel Watson and defensive linemen Jaden Crumedy, Nathan Pickering and Jordan Davis announced they'll return next season for their final seasons of eligibility. - The Clarion Ledger

Mississippi State linebacker Nathaniel Watson and defensive linemen Jaden Crumedy, Jordan Davis and Nathan Pickering announced their intent to return next season for their final seasons of eligibility. The offense joined the fun Thursday. Offensive lineman Kameron Jones is returning next season to use his extra COVID-19 season granted by the NCAA.   It took just three words for Mississippi State football fans and defensive coordinator Zach Arnett to hear what they wanted regarding the status of redshirt senior linebacker Nathaniel Watson for next season. "Run it back," Watson tweeted in a graphic featuring him holding the Golden Egg Trophy. Watson, who redshirted his freshman season in 2018, is returning to use the final year of eligibility he has left after the extra COVID-19 season granted to athletes by the NCAA. Watson, a native of Maplesville, Alabama, led Mississippi State with 108 tackles in 12 games this season, helping lead the Bulldogs to an 8-4 record and the No. 6 total defense in the SEC. He also leads the SEC in tackles. - The Clarion Ledger

Will Rogers threw for 301 yards and five touchdowns as Mississippi State rolled over East Tennessee State, 56-7 on Saturday afternoon. Rogers is now No. 9 in Southeastern Conference history with 10,189 yards, moving past Ole Miss' Eli Manning heading into the Bulldogs' Thanksgiving Day showdown with the Rebels in Oxford. It was also a milestone moment for Emmanuel Forbes, who snared a carom off East Tennessee State receiver Cameron Lewis and returned it 79 yards for a second quarter touchdown - his sixth career pick-six to set both an SEC and FBS record. The junior tied the Mississippi State record for most interceptions in a season with six and his 14 interceptions are now two away from tying the career record.

Forbes and the defense didn't give up a point to the Buccaneers' offense. ETSU (3-8) had just 154 yards with 43 of those coming through the air. It was 2 of 13 on 3rd downs and turned the ball over three times. Quarterback Tyler Riddell was 5 of 11 for 47 yards and two interceptions. The Bulldogs (7-4) had 418 yards and 342 of those were through the air. Rogers went 30 of 37 for 301 yards and five touchdowns. The Commodores (3-5, 0-4 SEC) lost the game, 17-14, and have an open week before facing the Gamecocks. "AJ is going to be battling back," Lea said. "I think he's in a good place right now.
