  07/18/19 - Joe BachieSr/2020, Michigan State, 6-1, 230 (DS#9 ILB) + More +

2019 PRESEASON BEDNARIK AWARD CANDIDATE: LB Joe Bachie, Michigan State,...Bachie, who has started 26 consecutive games at middle linebacker, has been named to numerous preseason All-America lists, including first-team recognition from Athlon Sports and Phil Steele. He has led the Spartans in tackles the past two seasons (100 in 2017; 102 in 2018) and last year he became the third Spartan middle linebacker under Mark Dantonio, joining Greg Jones and Max Bullough, to earn first-team All-Big Ten honors.

A consistent playmaker, Bachie had 8.5 tackles for loss, five pass break-ups, three forced fumbles, one interception and one fumble recovery during his junior campaign. He earned the Downtown Coaches Club Award for the most outstanding Spartan player on defense.

The Brook Park, Ohio, product started all 13 games at middle linebacker as a sophomore for the Spartans in 2017. He led the team in tackles (100; 7.7 avg.) and was named the recipient of the 2017 Governor's Award, which is given annually to the program's most valuable player as voted on by the team. - Michigan State Football

After a standout 2019 season and a First-Team All-Big Ten nod, defensive tackle Raequan Williams is back at Michigan State for his senior season. Williams, a Chicago native, racked up 53 tackles (10 1/2 for loss) last season, while pushing his starts streak to 29 games. Much is expected from Williams this fall. Here are a few things to know about the senior defensive line. In January 2016 and June 2017, Williams lost two close family members - his cousin and younger brother - to shootings. Williams was ready to return home after the losses. He wanted to keep his family safe. "Rae wanted to stop," Latasha Williams said of her son. "He was ready to come back. I told him, 'No, it's gotta motivate you more, so you do what you gotta do. Don't let this stop you. Take it out on the field.'"

Despite being a highly-touted NFL prospect, Williams never bothered to get feedback from NFL front offices about his draft stock, according to the Detroit News. Why didn't he explore his options? Because his mom wouldn't let him, that's why. Williams' mom did have a good reason for keeping him in school, though. "My mom wouldn't let me. I gotta graduate," he said. "You know how it is." - Lansing State Journal

  07/09/19 - Matt DotsonrSr/2022, Michigan State, 6-5, 240 (DS#999 TE) + More +

Brian Lewerke's pass came to Matt Dotson, right at the goal line. Michigan State football's tight end took an out-of-step leap attempting to high-point the ball, placed into a small opening between the Arizona State defense. It rattled off his hands and bounced to a Sun Devil defender for an interception. That play told the story of Dotson's 2018 season. The sophomore led the Spartans' tight ends with 14 catches, 159 yards and a touchdown. But it was more about the plays the former 4-star recruit and his position group did not make that cost an already struggling offense points and production.

Dotson returns as the only MSU tight end with experience, with Matt Sokol and blocker Chase Gianacakos departed via graduation. And the Spartans need Dotson to begin to reach his potential - and make catches - to help the Spartans move the ball this fall. Dotson, who has the size and strength to be an adequate blocker in the run game, runs crisp routes and showed athletic ability to get downfield off blocks into open areas of the field. - Detroit Free Press
