Running back Harold Joiner III, a redshirt sophomore at Auburn who entered the transfer portal in October, announced Thursday on Twitter he had committed to Michigan State. Joiner joins former Temple quarterback Anthony Russo, who committed to the Spartans on Wednesday. Joiner was one of the most sought-after running backs in the nation when he signed with Auburn as part of the 2018 class. The Birmingham, Ala., native was the No. 5 running back in the country but failed to gain a significant role with the Tigers. - Detroit News

  12/14/20 - *Jalen NailorrJr/2022, Michigan State, 5-11, 192 (DS#42 WR) + More +

Jalen Nailor arrived at MSU as a gadget-play guy - a playmaker known only for his speed. Then he also became a deep threat, able to finish catches after burning by defenders. Now he's the entire package. His strong hands on a diving catch on an 11-yard out route, his savvy on the fade route for a touchdown, his move on a helpless Penn State defensive back to get open on a 45-yard TD pass - he looks like a true go-to receiver. There are other young weapons to like on MSU's offense. Tre'Von Morgan showed promise Saturday. Jayden Reed has been good most of the year. Jordon Simmons at running back, too. But Nailor, right now, looks like MSU's best mismatch and someone defenses are increasingly going to have to build game plans around. - Lansing State Journal

  12/09/20 - Jarek BroussardSr/2023, Michigan State, 5-08, 192 (DS#67 RB) + More +

Going into fall camp, Jarek Broussard wasn't expected to even start for the Colorado Buffaloes. Four games into the season, the sophomore running back continues rewriting the record book. On Saturday night in a 24-13 win at Arizona, Broussard rushed for 301 yards on 25 carries. He didn't get in the end zone, but his big runs led to 17 points for the Buffs (4-0, 3-0 Pac-12). "I don't really trip on stuff like that," he said of not scoring, "because my job is really just to help the team win. If I have to go for 300 and no (touchdowns) and we win, I'm cool with it." Broussard posted just the fourth 300-yard game in CU history, and the first since Chris Brown had 309 at Kansas on Oct. 12, 2002.

"I am very proud of myself, I must say," said Broussard, who has battled back from two ACL injuries. "All of the hard work and all the hours of rehab, the cold nights in the hospital, it's all just paying off and it just feels real good." Broussard is the first player in CU history to rush for over 100 yards in the first four games of the season. His 733 yards are the most ever for a CU player through four games - topping the 727 by Rashaan Salaam during his Heisman Trophy-winning season in 1994. Ironically, Broussard's performance came on the four-year anniversary of Salaam's death. "It was really huge to do that," Broussard said. "Every day we walk in the Champions Center and walk past that trophy. It means a lot to be in that type of company with that sort of player." - Daily Camera

Wake Forest coach Dave Clawson says running back Kenneth Walker III has informed the coaching staff that he plans to opt out of the remainder of the season. Walker is the Demon Deacons' No. 2 rusher at 579 yards and has 13 rushing touchdowns. His decision comes as Wake Forest prepares to play its first game in nearly a month this weekend at Louisville after being on hold due to coronavirus issues. Clawson said Tuesday some players had decided to opt out and later changed their minds. He said the team would be open to Walker returning if he changed his mind and went back through required safety protocols to rejoin the team. - AP College Football

  12/05/20 - Jarek BroussardSr/2023, Michigan State, 5-08, 192 (DS#67 RB) + More +

Jarek Broussard ran for a career-high 301 yards, Ashaad Clayton ran for two touchdowns and the Colorado Buffaloes stayed undefeated with a 24-13 win over Arizona on Saturday night. Broussard has run for at least 100 yards in all four games this season and broke loose with long runs on two separate drives in the second quarter that set up touchdowns. The 5-foot-9, 185-pound sophomore repeatedly sliced through the middle of Arizona's defense without much resistance - reeling off runs of 75, 72 and 59 yards - and the Buffaloes piled up 407 yards on the ground. Colorado (4-0, 3-0 Pac-12) is one of just two remaining undefeated teams in the Pac-12, along with USC. Arizona (0-4, 0-4) has lost 11 straight games dating back to last season.

Arizona freshman quarterback Will Plummer made his first career start, filling in for the injured Grant Gunnell. He had some good moments, finishing 19 of 32 passing for 154 yards, but threw a costly interception at the 1-yard line on a drive that could have tied the game in the third quarter. The Wildcats stayed in the game thanks to a stellar ground game. Michael Wiley ran for 126 yards and Gary Brightwell added 113. Arizona had a chance to tie the game in the fourth quarter but Colorado made a goal-line stand with six minutes left that kept the Wildcats out of the end zone. Colorado rallied for a 14-13 halftime lead after falling into a 13-0 hole by early in the second quarter. - Colorado/AP College Football
