  11/21/20 - Peter ParrishrJr/2024, Memphis, 6-1, 190 (DS#999 QB) + More +

Memphis coach Ryan Silverfield defended how he and school administrators vetted sophomore quarterback Peter Parrish, who was named in a report accusing him of raping a woman while at LSU last season. USA Today reported Monday that Parrish, who transferred to Memphis in August, was suspended by LSU for a year after he was accused. The story added Parrish denied the allegations through his attorney and sued LSU alleging unfair treatment. He has also not been charged with any crime. He withdrew the lawsuit in September after a judge "declined to temporarily lift his suspension."

"We're confident in our process, very thorough in the way we vet these young men," Silverfield said Monday during his weekly press conference. "Just like with any other student-athlete, we don't go into details about what that process looks like for each individual, and I think the reality is that's a school-wide policy is as well." The report focused on how LSU mishandled sexual misconduct complaints against several students, including former running back Derrius Guice. In August, USA Today reported that two women accused Guice of raping them in 2016. Parrish, a former four-star recruit, was named as an example of LSU disciplining an athlete accused of misconduct. His suspension was reported in March as a violation of team rules. - Memphis Commercial Appeal

  11/21/20 - Brady WhiterSr/2021, Memphis, 6-1, 210 (DS#13 QB) + More +

Brady White became Memphis' all-time passing touchdown leader, Calvin Austin III broke open the game with a 64-yard punt return and the Tigers defeated Stephen F. Austin 56-14 on Saturday. White's short pass to Tahj Washington turned into a 48-yard touchdown and gave White 82 career TD passes, breaking a tie with Danny Wimprine (2001-2004). White threw for 269 yards with one interception. Austin's punt return extended Memphis' lead to 35-14 lead late in the third quarter. Austin had 117 return yards to go along with 173 yards receiving for Memphis (5-2), which has won 14 straight home games. Kylan Watkins rushed for 100 yards. The Lumberjacks (6-4) scored on Trae Self's 7-yard pass to Xavier Gipson in the final minute of the half to get within 20-14. The Lumberjacks were outgained 574-224 with Self being intercepted twice. Their other touchdown came on Brevin Randle's 30-yard interception return. This was Stephen F. Austin's finale of a 10-game fall schedule.   11/21/20 - Wardalis DucksworthrSr/2023, Memphis, 6-4, 259 (DS#93 DE) + More +

The story behind Wardalis Ducksworth's name starts with his great grandfather Wardelle. The Memphis defensive lineman heard the stories growing up about how hard Wardelle worked to raise his family in Mississippi. "He was a big dude. He hauled pulpwood," Ducksworth said. It was a family tradition along with inheriting names. Ducksworth's younger brother is named Fondarious and has an uncle named Cardelle. At Mize High School, classmates couldn't pronounce Wardalis (War-day-liss) so he was called "Duck," a nickname that's carried over with Memphis defensive coordinator Mike MacIntyre.

Now the 6-foot-4, 246-pound junior is making a bigger name getting to the quarterback. Ducksworth hasn't started a game this season for the Tigers (4-2), but he shares the team lead with four sacks along with O'Bryan Goodson and Joseph Dorceus. Ducksworth, who played three games last season before redshirting, also has a sack in three consecutive games, all coming on third down. MacIntyre has used Ducksworth on first and second down but with his length and athleticism, he's been an asset on third-down packages "He's kind of slippery, if that makes sense," MacIntyre said. "He's able to get to his hands on the guys and his length on the guards has really helped him. He's done an excellent job of running our games correctly." - Memphis Commercial Appeal

Dykes finished with seven catches for 142 yards and two touchdowns. Six of his catches came on third down as he was White's security blanket. Dykes had just three catches for nine yards in his last two games. It was a good reminder why the senior tight end has been so effective at the beginning of the season. - Memphis Commercial Appeal

Brady White was 10-for-12 passing on the final two scoring drives to bring Memphis back. The first ended with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Sean Dykes and the second culminated with Calvin Austin catching a 9-yard go-ahead touchdown with 1:03 left. It was almost deja vu to White connecting with Austin for the final touchdown when the Tigers beat UCF on Oct. 17. White won his 24th game at Memphis, setting a new program record for quarterback wins, and his four touchdown passes now have him at 81 in his career, which ties Danny Wimprine's school record. Austin, with 102 receiving yards, tied Anthony Miller's school record for consecutive 100-yard games with four. - Memphis Commercial Appeal

Brady White threw a pair of late touchdown passes to lift Memphis to a 34-33 win over South Florida on Saturday. After Spencer Schrader kicked his fourth field goal of the game with about 4 1/2 minutes left to extend the Bulls' lead to 33-20, White threw a 10-yard TD pass to Sean Dykes and then a 9-yard score to Calvin Austin III with just over a minute remaining to go ahead before the Bulls turned the ball over on downs. The final Memphis drives were both over 70 yards and took the Tigers (4-2, 3-2 American Athletic) a little over 2 1/2 minutes combined to complete. White was 30 of 50 for 437 yards, four touchdowns and an interception. He has 81 career TD passes, tying Danny Wimprine (2001-04) for the Memphis record.

Dykes had 147 yards receiving and two scores and Austin 102 yards and two TDs. Austin has over 100 receiving yards in four straight games, tying a school record. USF scored 24 points in the second quarter in taking a 27-13 halftime lead with the teams combining for three touchdowns in just over 1 1/2 minutes at one point. White threw a 5-yard TD pass to Dykes in the third quarter before Shrader kicked his third and fourth field goals to set up the dramatic drives by Memphis.   10/22/20 - Damonte CoxierSr/2021, Memphis, 6-2, 198 (DS#38 WR) + More +

In two seasons as a starter and two games this season, Damonte Coxie left a legacy as one of the best receivers in Memphis history. Now he's headed to the next stage of his career. Coxie made it official on Twitter Monday that he's opting out of this season and declaring for the 2021 NFL Draft. He's the sixth Memphis player to either opt out or take a leave of absence this season. Coxie did not play in the Tigers' win against UCF Saturday and coach Ryan Silverfield said postgame that he was no longer with the team. Silverfield added Monday that Coxie told the staff he was leaving during the middle of the week and it was unexpected. Memphis had 703 total yards of offense in its win over UCF, fifth most in school history. The Tigers will turn to receivers Calvin Austin III, Javon Ivory and Tahj Washington as Brady White's leading options along with tight end Sean Dykes. Ivory and Washington are redshirt freshmen. - Memphis Commercial Appeal

Memphis' 50-49 win over UCF Saturday added another thrilling chapter in one of the AAC's best rivalries. Not only did Memphis end a 13-game losing streak to UCF, it was one of the most prolific games in AAC history. According to ESPN Stats and Info, it was the second game over the last 20 seasons where both quarterbacks had at least 450 passing yards, five touchdowns and zero interceptions. Memphis was 6-for-16 on 3rd-down conversions but a perfect 5-for-5 on 4th-down conversions. Memphis scored touchdowns on all six red-zone opportunities while UCF was 4-for-6. Both teams combined for 1,501 yards, an AAC single-game record. ESPN also reported its the second-most combined yards in a game in the past five seasons since Oklahoma-Texas Tech combined for 1,708 in a 2016 game that featured Baker Mayfield and Patrick Mahomes. - Memphis Commercial Appeal

  10/19/20 - Damonte CoxierSr/2021, Memphis, 6-2, 198 (DS#38 WR) + More +

Memphis played without two key starters against UCF Saturday in leading receiver Damonte Coxie and top cornerback TJ Carter. Following the Tigers' 50-49 win, coach Ryan Silverfield said that Coxie "is not a part of our program right now" and did not elaborate further. He added that Carter was on the sidelines during the game but did not dress. Javon Ivory started in Coxie's place and had four catches for 88 yards and a touchdown. Brady White tied for a career-high six touchdowns, including the go-ahead pass to Calvin Austin III. Coxie, who led the team with 16 receptions entering Saturday, spoke with reporters on Tuesday to discuss the challenges facing the Knights' secondary.

He gave no indication that his playing status was in jeopardy for Saturday's game. But with his departure, the Tigers have now seen six players either opt out or leave the program since preseason camp. Kenneth Gainwell, Coye Fairman and Tim Hart announced they opted out while Silverfield said that La'Andre Thomas and John "Pop" Williams have taken leaves of absence for undisclosed reasons. Coxie, who started every game since his sophomore year, had consecutive 1,000 yard seasons in 2018-19. He and Anthony Miller are the only Tigers to do so in program history. - Memphis Commercial Appeal

  10/17/20 - Brady WhiterSr/2021, Memphis, 6-1, 210 (DS#13 QB) + More +

Brady White's sixth touchdown pass with just over a minute remaining completed a school-record 21-point comeback and the Tigers beat UCF 50-49 on Saturday to snap a 13-game losing streak to the Knights. After White found Calvin Austin for a 4-yard score and a two-point try failed, the Knights (2-2, 1-2 American Athletic) drove to the Memphis 22 before Daniel Obarski pulled a 40-yard field-goal attempt left with 19 seconds remaining. On the Tigers' winning drive, a shovel pass to Tahj Washington on fourth down went for 52 yards to the UCF 5. Three plays later White tossed the game-winner to a diving Austin on the left side of the end zone.

UCF led 27-14 at halftime, had a 21-point lead early in the third quarter and led 35-29 entering the final quarter during which the teams combined for five touchdowns. The Tigers' comeback surpassed the school record of 17 points against Houston in 2017. White finished 34-of-50 passing for a school-record 486 yards in a duel with UCF's Dillon Gabriel. Gabriel became the first UCF quarterback to throw for over 500 yards and blew past that mark with 601 yards on 35-of-49 passing with five scores. There were no interceptions. UCF outgained Memphis 798-703 for 1,501 yards offense combined, eclipsing the conference record of 1,479 set by the same teams in a 2017 game. The teams combined for 191 plays. - Memphis/AP College Football
