  OCT 31 FEDEX GROUND FCS NATIONAL FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK: Luca Stanzani, QB, LIU, Fr., 5-11, 180, Clearwater, Florida,...Making his first collegiate start, Stanzani accounted for 380 yards of total offense and five touchdowns plus threw the game-winning two-point conversion in the second overtime of LIU's first victory, 50-48 at Duquesne in the Northeast Conference. He was 22 of 27 while posting the highest passer rating (230.6) in LIU's four Division I seasons. The Sharks' point total was 19 more than in any of their prior 31 D-I games.   SEPT 26 FEDEX GROUND FCS NATIONAL SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Michael Coney, LIU, PK, R-So., 6-1, 190, Wantagh, New York,...Coney tied the Northeast Conference record and became the first FCS player to kick five field goals in a game this season while LIU lost to Bryant 31-29. He didn't miss a kick, adding two extra points to his field goals of 34, 19, 30, 41 and 28. His final field goal gave the Sharks a 29-28 lead with under a minute to play, but Bryant avoided the upset on, ironically, a walk-off field goal.   OCT 3 NEC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Michael Coney, LIU, K, R-So., 6-1, 190, Wantagh, NY/Wantagh, Week 5 Stats: 3-for-3 FG (19, 47, 33 yards), 2-for-2 PAT, 379 KO yards, 2 touchbacks, 63.2 yards/kickoff,...Coney converted on all three of his field goal attempts against Merrimack on Saturday to earn NEC Special Teams Player of the Week honors for the second time in as many weeks. A native of Wantagh, NY, Coney connected from 19, 47 and 33 yards to extend his streak to nine straight. The redshirt-sophomore also went 2-for-2 on PATs and added 379 kickoff yards for an average of 63.2 yards per kickoff. Last week, Coney was also tabbed the FedEx Ground FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week by StatsPerform after he drilled five field goals against Bryant - the most for a FCS player this season - to tie a NEC single-game record in the category. - NEC Football

Sparking his team's fourth-quarter rally after converting from 30 and 41 yards, he put the Sharks in front for the first time with a 28-yard field goal inside the game's final minute. Coney's efforts were spoiled by his counterpart, though, as Ethan Gettman registered a 38-yard field goal at the buzzer to propel the Bulldogs to the victory.   Ricco Aaron Jr. returned an interception for a touchdown and Tariq Snead ended a last-chance drive with another pick as Long Island University held off Bryant 24-19 in the Northeast Conference spring football opener for both teams on Sunday. LIU jumped into a 14-3 lead early in the second quarter, answering a Luke Samperi field goal with a pair of touchdowns. Jonathan DeBique scored from the 3 to cap a 15-play, 75-yard drive for the Sharks. After the ensuing kickoff Bryant's Kory Curtis was sacked for a loss of seven yards, and was under pressure again from two defenders running untouched up the middle. Curtis' hurried pass was tipped and intercepted on the fly by Aaron, who returned it 34 yards with a convoy of Sharks defenders. Curtis was 16-for-35 passing for 125 yards with a TD and two picks. LIU's Conor Regan threw for 199 yards with two touchdowns. - Long Island/AP College Football
