  NOV 18 STATS FCS NATIONAL SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Bailey Giffen, Lamar, PK, Jr., 5-9, 165, Bryan, Texas,...Giffen was 4-for-4 on field goals, including two beyond 50 yards, and was 2-of-2 on PATs while scoring 14 points in Lamar's 31-26 loss at Houston Baptist in the Southland Conference. The transfer so enjoyed kicking a career-long 51-yard field goal in the first quarter that he upped his best from 53 yards out in the second. He added 36- and 24-yarders, giving him an FCS-high 20 field goals this season.   Jordan Hoy threw two touchdown passes and ran for the winning score as he rallied Lamar late to beat Abilene Christian 27-24 on Saturday night, snapping a three-game skid. Lamar trailed 24-17 midway through the fourth quarter when Bailey Giffen booted a 41-yard field goal to close to 24-20 with 9:30 to play. The ensuing on-side kick was recovered by the Cardinals (3-3, 1-2 Southland Conference) at the Wildcats 45. Hoy then marched his team into position and scored on a keeper for a 27-24 edge with 6:20 remaining after eating up most of the drive's ground yardage himself. Hoy finished with 338 yards passing for the Cardinals. He also led the ground attack, amassing 103 yards on 21 carries. Kirkland Banks had 10 catches for 145 yards and a touchdown.   Jordan Hoy threw for 226 yards and three touchdowns and ran for three scores as Lamar scored on its first two possessions to open the season on Thursday night with a 65-16 thrashing of Bethel (Tenn.), an NAIA school. The Cardinals needed just seven plays to go ahead 14-0 in the first quarter. Hoy hit Case Robinson on a 26-yard scoring strike to take a 7-0 lead early in the game. He followed that with a 7-yard TD pass to Erik Pizarro after Lamar's defense forced a fumble. Hoy ran it in from the 8 for the next score, on the first play of the second quarter, and the Cardinals sprinted to a 41-13 advantage at the break.

Hoy was 14 of 19 passing for 173 yards and two scores by halftime. He rushed for 50 yards and three touchdowns in the first half. Derrion Randle ran for 79 yards and a score and Cole Starnes added 72 yards rushing and a TD. The Cardinals amassed total 658 yards while limiting Bethel to 197.   2019 PRESEASON ALL-SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE FIRST TEAM (COACHES): DL Daniel Crosley, Lamar, Sr., DeRidder, La.,...Crosley is coming of a 2018 season that saw him finish fifth on the team with 58 total tackles on his way to second-team postseason All-SLC recognition. The DeRidder, La., native ranked among the league leaders posting 9.0 sacks and 16.0 tackles for losses. Crosley posted one of his best individual performances in the second half against Stephen F. Austin.

After the Cardinals jumped out to a huge lead, SFA was attempting to rally late in the contest, but Crosley managed to come up with a key stop on several third downs forcing the Lumberjacks to punt the ball away. Crosley ended the game with 3.5 tackles for losses – including 1.5 sacks – two quarterback hurries, a forced fumble and recovered a fumble. - Lamar Football
