  WEEK 11 SOUTHLAND DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Andrew Huff, Lamar - DL - Jr. - Stafford, Texas (Stafford HS),...Huff led an impressive defensive effort for Lamar against one of the top offenses in the country. He recorded a team-high seven tackles, with three solo stops and two sacks as the Cardinals held Southeastern off the scoreboard until the third quarter and their lowest offensive output against an FCS squad this season.   WEEK 8 SOUTHLAND SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Ben Woodard, Lamar - PK - Sr. - Plano, Texas (Plano East HS) - FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week, Woodard capped a banner performance by drilling a school-record 57-yard field goal with 1:03 left, lifting Lamar past UTRGV 23-21 in the Southland Conference. He kicked a 53-yard field goal to end the first half, also connected from 30 yards out and added two PATs for 11 points. Woodard, who is 17 of 19 on field goals over the last two seasons, averaged 63.8 yards on five kickoffs with three touchbacks. - Southland Football

  Robert Coleman threw for a touchdown and Major Bowden ran for a score and Lamar moved into a second-place tie in the Southland Conference with Southeastern Louisiana, beating the Lions 14-12 on Saturday. The Lions turned the ball over on downs on their final drive and Lamar took possession and let time run out in two plays. Lamar (8-2, 5-1) never trailed. Coleman threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to JaCorey Harder at the end of a 12-play, 80-yard drive for the game's first score with 28 seconds before halftime.

Guillermo Garcia Rodriguez kicked field goals of 50 and 29 yards in a 3 1/2-half minute span in the third quarter to shave the Lions' deficit to a point. Early in the fourth, Major Bowden carried it in from the 1 for a 14-6 Lamar lead. The score came at the end of a 15-play, 77-yard drive that took 7 1/2 minutes. Jack Hunter's 22-yard touchdown run with 7:23 left brought Southeastern Louisiana within 14-12, but the two-point conversion failed.   Robert Coleman threw a touchdown pass, Xavier Coleman ran for 101 yards and two touchdowns, and Lamar scored 24 unanswered points in a 41-14 victory over Northwestern State on Saturday. Xavier Coleman had a go-ahead 35-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter for Lamar (7-1, 4-0 Southland Conference). Robert Coleman added a 14-yard touchdown pass to Kyndon Fuselier with 21 seconds left and the Cardinals, ranked 15th in the FCS coaches poll, led 17-7 at halftime. Joshua Robinson had a 3-yard touchdown run to up the lead to 24-7 after three quarters.

Kevin Thomas Jr. picked off Abram Johnston and returned it 34 yards to the Demons' 9-yard line. Xavier Coleman scored on a 6-yard run two plays later for a 34-7 lead. Omarion Rasberry had a 9-yard touchdown run to cap the scoring for the Cardinals with 6:28 left. Ben Woodard kicked two field goals. Robert Coleman completed 18 of 30 passes for 166 yards. Xavier Coleman topped 100 yards on 12 carries. Johnston totaled 284 yards on 13-for-23 passing for Northwestern State (1-7, 0-4). He scored on a 1-yard run to give the Demons a 7-3 lead in the second quarter. Johnston connected with Brendan Webb for a 78-yard touchdown with 9:08 remaining. Webb had four catches for 126 yards.   Ben Woodard kicked a program-tying 57-yard field goal with just over a minute remaining to give Lamar a 23-21 victory over UT Rio Grande Valley, extending its win streak to six. The Cardinals (6-1, 3-0 Southland) led 20-7 at halftime but the Vaqueros (5-2, 1-2) rallied behind two fourth-quarter touchdown passes from Eddie Lee Marburger for a one-point lead with 9 1/2 minutes left. Lamar went three-and-out on its next drive but covered 48 yards on its next before Woodard's go-ahead field goal. A final Vaqueros possession ended with Mar Mar Evans' interception at the Lamar 34.

Woodard also kicked a 53-yard field goal at the end of a second half and a 30-yarder earlier. His 57-yarder matched Mike Andrie's against Arkansas State in 1987, Aiden McCown was 17-of-23 passing for 203 yards, two touchdowns and an interception for the Cardinals and he rushed for 88 more yards. Blake Thomas had 77 yards receiving and a score. Kyndon Fuselier also had a TD catch. Marburger was 9 of 21 for 106 yards with TD throws to Xayvion Noland and Tavian Cord.   Aiden McCown threw for 285 yards and a touchdown in the final seconds, and Lamar stormed back from a 13-point deficit to beat East Texas A&M 33–23 on Saturday night in Southland Conference play. Kyndon Fuselier caught a go-ahead touchdown with three seconds remaining to complete the comeback. He had seven catches for 71 yards. A failed lateral by Lions on the final play of the game resulted in another touchdown, scored by Ronnie Hamrick II. Lamar (5–1, 2–0 Southland) trailed 16–3 in the third quarter before Ben Woodard kicked the second of his two field goals, and Peyton Lamar Christian returned a fumble from Ron Peace 12 yards for a Lamar touchdown.

Peace responded with a 6-yard touchdown run for the Lions (1–5, 1–1) at the 6:27 mark of the third quarter. He was 20-of-31 passing for 214 yards and rushed for 18 yards. Josh Robinson had a 7-yard touchdown run to trim the deficit for the Cardinals with 9:05 remaining in the fourth quarter. Fuselier returned a punt 25 yards to start the final possession at the Lions' 36-yard line. A would-be game-tying field goal from Woodard had a leverage penalty called against East Texas A&M, setting up a fresh set of downs, and McCown's game-winning touchdown to Fuselier. McCown completed 24 of 34 passes, connecting with eight receivers. Robinson led Lamar's ground game with 27 yards and a touchdown on seven carries.   Aidan McCown threw three touchdown passes and rushed for another in Lamar's 35-32 win over Central Arkansas on Saturday night. McCown and Damian Moore both rushed for touchdowns, and along with McCown's 7-yard touchdown pass to JaCorey Hyder, helped put the Cardinals up 21-17. Blake Thomas and Kyndon Fuselier each recorded a touchdown catch in the second half to go up by 35-17. McCown threw for 142 yards.

Central Arkansas (1-4) pulled within three in the fourth quarter with Austin Myers' 4-yard touchdown pass to Arlie Lee, and his 14-yard TD pass to Malachi Henry on the next possession made it 35-32 with less than two minutes to play. The Bears went for it on 4th-and-nine with 12 seconds left, but with two receivers in the end zone Myers couldn't find an open receiver. Myers finished 25 for 41 for 358 yards passing and three touchdowns. Henry caught nine passes for 113 yards. Landen Chambers rushed for 136 yards and one touchdown. Lamar (3-1) is 2-10 in the series. The Cardinals' previous win came in the 2018 FCS playoffs. - AP College Football
