  02/03/21 - Aaron HackettrSr/2022, Kent State, 6-1, 236 (DS#41 FB) + More +

Hackett is expected to graduate from Syracuse in May and join TCU this summer as a graduate transfer. He'll be eligible to play this fall. Hackett will provide much-needed depth at tight end as TCU lost Pro Wells and Artayvious Lynn to the NFL Draft. Along with Hackett, TCU has added tight ends D.J. Rogers and Jasper Lott this offseason. Rogers is a former 2020 four-star recruit who didn't enroll in school last season, while Lott is a 2021 recruit who some view as a future offensive lineman. The Frogs' top returner is senior Carter Ware, who started six games last season. Ware is known as more of a blocking tight end, finishing with three catches for 40 yards including one TD reception last season. Hackett, who is listed at 6-foot-3, 237 pounds, is coming off a 2020 season in which he had 10 catches for 63 yards, including two touchdowns, in nine games. His best season came in 2019 when he had 23 catches for 205 yards and six TDs. - Fort Worth Star

  02/02/21 - Aaron HackettrSr/2022, Kent State, 6-1, 236 (DS#41 FB) + More +

A former Syracuse tight end will play out his final season in the Big 12. Aaron Hackett will transfer to TCU, he posted Monday afternoon on Twitter. Hackett entered the transfer portal in December but had been unsure whether he will pursue a pro career or play a fifth year at a new school. Hackett caught 10 passes for 63 yards and a pair of scores last season, well short of his production as a junior in 2019, when he caught 23 passes for 205 yards and six touchdowns. That year he earned Syracuse's in-house Bill Maxwell Award as the team's most improved player on offense. - The Post-Standard

2020 ALL-ACC FOOTBALL SECOND TEAM (COACHES/MEDIA): SP - Nykeim Johnson, Syracuse, 123,...Johnson was second in the ACC in kick return average (23.2 yards per return) and his 14.1 yards per return in the punt game led the ACC for players with 10-or-more returns on the season. That number would rank fifth nationally had he taken one more return to meet the 1.2 returns per game requirement to qualify for the statistical category. - Syracuse Football

  12/24/20 - Nykeim JohnsonrSr/2022, Kent State, 5-07, 174 (DS#119 WR) + More +

Syracuse wide receiver and kick returner Nykeim Johnson has entered his name in the transfer portal just one day after being recognized by the ACC for his excellent performance this past season. Johnson's exploration of a transfer was first reported by the recruiting website Rivals. Players who put their name into the portal can talk to other schools about a potential transfer but do maintain the ability to return to their current school. He was named to the All-ACC Second Team on Tuesday as a specialist. Johnson was the ACC's leading punt returner (14.1 yards per return) and second-leading kick returner (23.2 yards per attempt). While he didn't score a touchdown, Johnson seemed on the verge of breaking one for much of the year. - The Post-Standard

  12/07/20 - Aaron HackettrSr/2022, Kent State, 6-1, 236 (DS#41 FB) + More +

Syracuse tight end Aaron Hackett will not return to Syracuse next season, he told syracuse.com. Hackett says he is weighing whether to turn pro or transfer to another school. He has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal, a formal process that gives other schools the OK to recruit him. Though undecided on his next step, he says he won't return to Syracuse for a final season of eligibility. His departure is a bit of a surprise given his comments last month that he'd be "more than happy to come back here for an extra year."

Hackett said he considered sitting out the 2020 season after spending much of the preseason rehabbing a pectoral injury. He battled other injuries this past season while primarily being used as a blocking tight end given some limitations along the offensive line. Hackett said he was hospitalized for precautionary reasons in Louisville on Nov. 20 after absorbing a hit during SU's 30-0 loss. Hackett sustained bruises to his ribs, abdomen and spleen during the game. He flew home with the team after the game and returned to the field to finish out the final two games of the season. As a senior, Hackett finished with 10 catches for 63 yards and a pair of scores. To put that in perspective, he caught 23 passes for 205 yards and six touchdowns as a junior, earning Syracuse's in-house Bill Maxwell Award as the team's most improved player on offense. - Syracuse.com
