Adrian Martinez is heading to Kansas State from Nebraska. The four-year starting quarterback for the Cornhuskers announced Thursday night on Twitter that he would transfer to K-State. He is immediately eligible. Martinez was a three-time captain at Nebraska but went just 14-25 as the starter. He completed 61.8% of his passes for 2,863 yards with 14 touchdowns and 10 interceptions this past season. K-State loses senior starter Skylar Thompson after the Jan. 4 Texas Bowl against LSU and is on track to go into spring with four scholarship quarterbacks, including Martinez. Deuce Vaughn ran for 121 yards and a touchdown, Sammy Wheeler had a touchdown catch along with a crucial fourth-down grab, and Kansas State beat mistake-prone West Virginia 34-17 on Saturday. Skylar Thompson had just 138 yards passing for the Wildcats (7-3, 4-3 Big 12), but the senior made a couple crucial throws when the Mountaineers (4-6, 2-5) had whittled a 24-3 deficit to seven midway through the fourth quarter. Jarret Doege had 268 yards passing with two touchdowns and two interceptions for West Virginia, which had won five straight against the Wildcats dating to the 2015 season. Leddie Brown added 85 yards on the ground.

West Virginia began digging a big hole when Doege was picked on the game's second play, his throw skipping off Winston Wright Jr.'s hands and into those of Russ Yeast. Kansas State promptly marched 55 yards to take a 7-0 lead. A few minutes later, the Mountaineers' VanDarius Cowan hit Thompson with a helmet-to-helmet blow and was ejected. They eventually got the ball back, but a personal foul for a chop block forced the Mountaineers to punt. Deuce Vaughn led Kansas State with a career-high 162 yards rushing and three touchdowns, Skylar Thompson shredded Kansas through the air before a cheap shot knocked him out of the game in the fourth quarter, and the Wildcats cruised to a 35-10 victory over the Jayhawks on Saturday. Thompson was 19 of 24 for 244 yards and a touchdown before he was hit by the Jayhawks' Gavin Potter out of bounds along the Kansas State sideline. Thompson remained on the ground for several minutes before finally getting up. The personal foul put the ball just outside the goal line, and Vaughn plowed in for his final rushing TD of the day. Vaughn also caught five passes for 60 yards, and Malik Knowles had 94 yards receiving and a touchdown, as the Wildcats (6-3, 3-3 Big 12) beat their rival for the eighth consecutive time at Memorial Stadium and 13th straight overall.

Devin Neal had 62 yards rushing for the Jayhawks (1-8, 0-6), who were down to third-string quarterback Jalon Daniels by the third quarter. Jason Bean was banged up early but was ineffective anyway, and backup Miles Kendrick was carted off after getting hurt on his second play of the game. Daniels finished 13 of 19 for 109 yards and a score. The Jayhawks trailed 21-3 by halftime and it could have been much worse. On offense, they watched running back Torry Locklin get carted off the field before Bean and Kendrick got hurt, and they saw normally sure-footed Jacob Borcila miss one of his two field-goal attempts. NOV 1 BIG 12 DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Felix Anudike-Uzomah, Kansas State, DE, So.,...Anudike-Uzomah registered eight total tackles, 4.0 sacks for 20 yards, 4.0 TFL and also forced two fumbles in K-State's 31-12 win over TCU. His two forced fumbles also would have added two sacks to his total but the fumbles caused on the pass plays bounced forward. His 4.0 sacks tied Chris Johnson for the K-State single-game record and was just one shy of the Big 12 record. Anudike-Uzomah had sacks on back-to-back plays to end the first half and on the first play of the second half. He and Johnson are the only players in school history to have sacks on three-straight defensive plays, as the latter also did so in his 4.0-sack game at Missouri in 2000. After watching Kansas State's Felix Anudike-Uzomah seemingly match a Division I record with six sacks in a 31-12 victory over TCU on Saturday, coach Chris Klieman made an observation that should send chills through Big 12 quarterbacks. Or heart palpitations through NFL scouts. "I'm sure there's things he can continue to improve and get better at," Klieman said with a slight grin and shake of his head, before adding quickly: "But you have that special day, that's pretty awesome." Anudike-Uzomah, whose safety last week against Texas Tech jumpstarted the Wildcats' comeback win, also forced two fumbles against TCU while appearing to shatter the school record of four sacks set by Chris Johnson in 2000.

About two hours after the game ended, though, the NCAA announced two of the sacks do not count because they resulted in fumbles that went beyond the original line of scrimmage. By rule, those plays must be counted as rushes by the QB. Regardless, the four sacks that did count still represented a banner day for Kansas State's burgeoning defensive star. "Stay hungry and keep doing what I'm doing in practice, honestly," Anudike-Uzomah said. "This is one game. It's not the end of the season. I need to work hard and work on technique so I can pile on and pile on." Only three other players in the NCAA's highest division have had six sacks, including longtime NFL star Elvis Dumervil. "How could you not be excited for the kid?" Klieman said. "He set all sorts of records today, and every single one of them was critical play in a tight ballgame. Felix earns it. He works his tail off every single day." Kansas State didn't change much at halftime despite trailing Texas Tech by two touchdowns. The outcome wasn't much different from recent seasons either - a sixth straight victory in the series for the Wildcats, who ended their longest Big 12 skid since joining the league in 1996. Skylar Thompson passed for 296 yards and the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter and Kansas State came up with sacks on the final two plays by the Red Raiders in a 25-24 victory Saturday. "We didn't change that many calls; we just played them better," said Kansas State's Chris Klieman, who is 3-0 against Matt Wells of Texas Tech in a matchup of coaches who joined the conference together in 2019. "It was a very simple game plan. We told the guys we were going to keep the game plan really simple so they could play fast. In the first half we played fast and made mistakes...and in the second half we kept it pretty simple, played faster and made plays." Thompson's 22-yard TD pass to Deuce Vaughn with just over six minutes left helped the Wildcats (4-3, 1-3 Big 12) rally from a 24-10 halftime deficit with a second-half shutout that stopped an eight-game conference losing streak going back to last year. Adrian Martinez ran for a career-best three touchdowns and passed for another, and Nebraska broke big play after big play while putting away Northwestern early in a 56-7 win Saturday night. The Cornhuskers (3-3, 1-2 Big Ten) were sharp from the get-go and dominated a matchup that usually has produced close games. Eight of the previous 10 in the series were decided by eight points or less. It was the Huskers' most lopsided win in a Big Ten game since they joined the conference in 2011.

For Northwestern (2-3, 0-2), the losing margin matched the second largest in Pat Fitzgerald's 16 years as coach. Martinez connected with Samori Toure for a 70-yard pass on the game's first play from scrimmage - a sign of things to come - and the Huskers went into halftime with a 35-7 lead. Zavier Betts opened the second half with an 83-yard touchdown run down the sideline, and Martinez hit Toure in stride for a 38-yard score to make it 49-7. The Huskers had seven plays go for at least 20 yards and their 657 yards were their most in two years. Their 427 rushing yards were their most since they ran for 458 against Illinois in 2014. Deuce Vaughn scored a rushing touchdown with less than two minutes to play and Kansas State held on to beat FCS-member Southern Illinois 31-23 on Saturday. The Wildcats defense forced a fumble on Southern Illinois' following possession to seal it. The Wildcats held the Salukis scoreless in the second half and surrendered just 126 yards. "We're excited about getting the win," Kansas State coach Chris Klieman said. "I know the league they play in really well, and I know if we let them hang around they'll cause you trouble." Kansas State starting quarterback Skylar Thompson left the game in the first quarter due to injury.

Thompson appeared to suffer a non-contact injury in attempting to block for running back Vaughn. Thompson, who is a sixth year senior, missed all but three games last year due to an injury to his throwing shoulder that required surgery. Thompson made his 32nd start at quarterback as a Wildcat, which tied him for most in school history. "I was pretty emotional, I saw it happen last year and kind of had déjà vu," Klieman said. "I'm devastated for him. We'll pray for the best." Vaughn ran for 120 yards and three touchdowns while Malik Knowles had 112 receiving yards for Kansas State (2-0).
