  10/01/22 - Jalon DanielsrSr/2026, Kansas, 6-0, 220 (DS#22 QB) + More +

Jace Gilbert missed three field goals, including a 37-yarder with a chance to tie the game with under 30 seconds to play as Kansas held off Iowa State 14-11 on Saturday to remain undefeated. At 5-0 overall, this is the Jayhawks' best start to the season since 2009 and just the second time in the last 14 years they’re 2-0 to begin Big 12 Conference play. Jalon Daniels and Daniel Hishaw both scored rushing touchdowns for the Jayhawks, who were shut out in the second half, but did just enough to hang on for the victory.

Daniels threw for 93 yards while Iowa State's Hunter Dekkers had 278 passing yards but threw a costly interception in the second quarter. Dekkers' interception in the second quarter ended up turning into a touchdown for the Jayhawks, a 2-yard run by Daniels for a 14-0 lead. Iowa State got on the board just before halftime with Dekkers' 7-yard pass to Easton Dean. A two-point conversion after a botched PAT snap drew the Cyclones within 14-8. Gilbert came into the game 5-for-5 on field goals for the Cyclones but missed two kicks off the post - one in the first quarter and another in the fourth - which proved costly. - Kansas/AP College Football

  09/26/22 - Jalon DanielsrSr/2026, Kansas, 6-0, 220 (DS#22 QB) + More +

A 4-0 start put the Jayhawks atop the others receiving votes pile Sunday in The Associated Press college football poll presented by Regions Bank, 41 points behind No. 25 Kansas State. The Jayhawks have not been ranked since mid-October 2009, a dry spell of nearly 13 years that is currently the longest among Power Five conference programs. Getting stuck behind the Sunflower State rivalry must have been particularly annoying to Kansas fans. The Wildcats moved into the rankings for the first time this season after upsetting Oklahoma in Norman on Saturday. That big win came a week after K-State lost at home to Tulane, which in turn lost to Southern Mississippi on Saturday. Those types of results can twist voters in knots.

Meanwhile, Kansas and quarterback Jaylon Daniels have rolled through Tennessee Tech, West Virginia, Houston and Duke, with the middle two on the road. Take out the FCS opponent and the Jayhawks have an average margin of victory of 13 points. They also rank third in the nation behind No. 3 Ohio State and TCU and just ahead of No. 2 Alabama in yards per play (7.80). Nice company. Kansas' resume has a similar look to No. 24 Pittsburgh's. Both beat West Virginia in close games. Both have Group of Five road wins: Kansas at Houston and Pitt at Western Michigan. Both beat FCS schools. The difference is Pitt lost an OT game to No. 8 Tennessee at home and Kansas handed Duke its first loss of the season. Close call, but Reality Check says advantage KU. The voters are going to make the Jayhawks do more. - AP College Football

Jalon Daniels accounted for five touchdowns to lead Kansas past Duke 35-27 on Saturday afternoon. Daniels' 3-yard run gave the Jayhawks a 34-20 lead with 4:42 remaining. It is the first time since 2009 the Jayhawks have started 4-0. They also completed their first undefeated nonconference schedule since 2013. Daniels went 19-of-23 for 324 yards passing and a career-high four touchdowns. He led the team in rushing with 83 yards and a score. The Jayhawks held a 21-13 lead at halftime thanks to three touchdown passes from Daniels.

Kansas went 3-for-4 in the red zone, getting receiving touchdowns from Luke Grimm and Trevor Kardell and Daniels a rushing score. The Jayhawks entered play leading the Big 12 in red zone offense where they are 22 of 24 with 20 touchdowns. Lawrence Arnold scored on a 36-yard pass play and Daniel Hishaw scored on a 73-yard run when he spun out of a tackle and sprinted the end zone. The Jayhawks outgained Duke 529-463 yards offense. Riley Leonard went 24-of-35 passing for 324 yards, including a 24-yard score to Jalon Calhoun. Jaylan Colman and Jordan Waters scored rushing touchdowns for the Blue Devils (3-1). - Kansas/AP College Football

  09/10/22 - Jalon DanielsrSr/2026, Kansas, 6-0, 220 (DS#22 QB) + More +

Jalon Daniels threw three touchdown passes, including one in overtime, and cornerback Jacobee Bryant returned an interception for a score on the final play as Kansas beat West Virginia 55-42 in their Big 12 opener on Saturday night. Kansas (2-0, 1-0 Big 12) has won its first two games of the season for the first time since 2011. "For us to get off to a 2-0 start and keep stacking (good) days the best we can, it says a lot," Kansas coach Lance Leipold said. "But it will only mean a lot if we go out and play well again." West Virginia rallied from an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime tied at 42.

After Daniels found Quentin Skinner with a 4-yard scoring pass in overtime, Bryant stepped in front of JT Daniels' pass intended for West Virginia's Bryce Ford-Wheaton and ran 86 yards untouched into the end zone to end the game. The Mountaineers (0-2, 0-1) have lost their first two games for the first time since 1979. Jalon Daniels had another efficient passing game and was especially elusive with his legs. He ran for a career-high 85 yards, eclipsing the 45 yards he had in a win over Texas last year. "I'm not somebody who's gonna turn down any kind of contact," he said. "I play quarterback but at the end of the day, we're trying to move the sticks. The game of football is to be able to keep getting yards, moving the sticks, and get into the end zone. I'm gonna do what I have to do." - Kansas/AP College Football

  08/31/22 - Trevor WilsonrSr/2025, Kansas, 5-10, 195 (DS#999 WR) + More +

Kansas suspended starting wide receiver Trevor Wilson indefinitely and backup Tanaka Scott for the Jayhawks' season-opener against Tennessee Tech on Monday after the pair were arrested last week near campus. Wilson was charged with suspicion of aggravated assault and use of a deadly weapon for the incident Thursday, when a Lawrence police spokesperson said a man flashed a gun at another car before driving away from the scene. Wilson was released from Douglas County Jail on $5,000 bond and is due back in court Tuesday. The same charges against Tanaka were dismissed Friday for lack of probable cause. Wilson started in seven games and appeared in all 12 for the Jayhawks last season, catching 27 passes for 364 yards and a touchdown. He had transferred from Buffalo, where he played for current Kansas coach Lance Leipold. Scott played in two games before redshirting the remainder of last season. - AP College Football

  08/29/22 - Trevor WilsonrSr/2025, Kansas, 5-10, 195 (DS#999 WR) + More +

Kansas football indefinitely suspended redshirt junior wide receiver Trevor Wilson on Friday, after the legal developments stemming from his and a teammate's arrests Thursday. Wilson and redshirt freshman wide receiver Tanaka Scott were arrested earlier this week on suspicion of aggravated assault and use of a deadly weapon, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. Although a determination was made that there was a lack of probable cause for Scott's case, which led to its dismissal, Wilson's case proceeded Friday.

Wilson would be released on a $5,000 own recognizance bond, following a court appearance, with another appearance set for Aug. 30 at 10 a.m. "Regarding Tanaka Scott," a Kansas Athletics spokesperson told The Topeka Capital-Journal in a statement, "we are continuing to gather more information and will update his status when appropriate." Both Wilson and Scott were poised to earn roles with the Jayhawks this season, to varying degrees. Then came their arrests, about a week before Kansas is set to open the season Sept. 2 at home against Tennessee Tech. When the two will return, if either, is unclear. Wilson is coming off a 2021 season in which he appeared in all 12 games. Through those contests, he finished tied for second in receptions with 27 and second in receiving yards with 364. He also caught a touchdown pass. - Topeka Capital Journal

  08/29/22 - Kobe BaynesrSr/2026, Kansas, 6-4, 315 (DS#31 OG) + More +

Kobe Baynes, a 6-foot-4, 300-pound right tackle from Jacksonville, Florida, committed to play for the Jayhawks on Monday, less than a week after deciding to leave the Cardinals and just four days after receiving a scholarship offer from coach Lance Leipold. "I didn't want to wait until December and waste a year of eligibility," Baynes said. "I wanted to get somewhere now and get some tape. That was a big factor for me." A redshirt sophomore, Baynes will seek a waiver that will allow him to play for Kansas this season.

If he doesn't get it, he will still be able to enroll in classes and join the team for practice and meetings and would have three seasons of eligibility remaining. If nothing else, his arrival in Lawrence will happen quickly. Baynes, who was still in Louisville on Monday evening, said he had an early morning flight to Kansas City scheduled for Tuesday and hopes to be able to be on campus by the afternoon. Baynes also received scholarship offers from Illinois, Syracuse, Memphis, USF and Bowling Green shortly after entering the transfer portal and said he had heard from several other schools that wanted him to wait on a decision until after the season so they could try to add him. - Lawrence Journal World

  08/29/22 - Marvin GrantrSr/2025, Kansas, 6-2, 210 (DS#60 SS) + More +

When Marvin Grant entered the transfer portal earlier this year, the first school he heard from was Kansas. That the Jayhawks would pursue Grant, after he'd spent the first three seasons of his college football career at Purdue, didn't come as much of a surprise. There were connections between Kansas and Grant, like a high school teammate of his in senior linebacker Rich Miller, on top of the Jayhawks needing the experience in the secondary a talent like Grant could provide. And Grant, looking to experience something different, was sold on Kansas after his visit.

While Grant spent fall camp building on his experience within the Jayhawks' defense, taking rep after rep with different units as he followed the coaching, it's clear where the redshirt junior safety's mindset is at. He wants to start when Kansas opens the season Sept. 2 at home against Tennessee Tech - because that's what he thinks each of his teammates at the position should be thinking as well. "Every safeties' expectations are to be the No. 1 guy," said Grant, who started each of Purdue's 13 games last season. "I mean, nobody comes to sit and be behind nobody...That's how we motivate each other at the same time, motivate each other to get better each and every day." Where Grant fits in at safety, as of last week, had yet to be determined from his perspective. - Topeka Capital Journal
