Tennessee football wide receiver Malachi Wideman announced he was entering the transfer portal Thursday. He only spent one season with the Vols and will have four years of eligibility remaining. A former four-star recruit, Wideman made his announcement in a Twitter post citing his intention to a go to a school where he could showcase his talent on the basketball court as well as the football field. "I am embarking on a future that will allow me to showcase my God-given talents on a solid platform in basketball and football," Wideman wrote. "I will always have love for Tennessee and my fellow teammates, but at this time, God has compelled me to choose another path. I have entered the transfer portal." Wideman's decision comes a week after reports surfaced that he was no longer with the program.   USC wants to move away from the running back-by-committee approach it's used the last three seasons. The goal is for one main back and a change-of-pace option to take on the lion's share of carries. With just two jobs on the line, that makes running back the most crowded competition at USC. Texas transfer Keaontay Ingram was the best back throughout the spring, breaking tackles and bursting through holes. If he's the physical work horse (which is still TBD until after fall camp), how does USC complement him? Vavae Malepeai plays with a similar style to Ingram, but has been USC's starting running back the last two seasons when healthy. Stephen Carr is more of a contrast with Ingram, with speed being his primary weapon. Kenan Christon is the most dynamic option, with his combination of speed and ability to make plays in the passing game, but he missed spring competing with the USC track and field team and faces an uphill battle. - Orange County Register

South Carolina added two players to its football roster for the spring on Tuesday. Quarterback Jason Brown (6-4, 230) and wide receiver EJ Jenkins (6-8, 230), teammates at Saint Francis College in Pennsylvania, were told Tuesday they were approved for admission at USC and immediately committed to the Gamecocks. They will arrive on campus March 1. The two are from Fredericksburg, Va., and decided to transfer after Saint Francis canceled its spring season. Their goal was to continue playing together, and the Gamecocks offered them that opportunity. In 2019, Brown set a school record with 3,084 passing yards and 28 touchdowns. He completed 62 percent of his attempts. He believes the new offense Marcus Satterfield plans to install at USC will fit him well. - The Post and Courier
