Georgia Tech wide receiver Jalen Camp will forego his extra year of eligibility and seek a career in the NFL. Camp, who played his senior season this year but had an option to return as the NCAA has granted all fall-sports athletes with an additional year of eligibility, made the announcement Thursday on his Twitter account. After an injury and surgery shortened his 2019 season to four games, Camp came back and completed the best season of his career, with 29 catches for 439 yards and four touchdowns, all team highs. "First, I would like to thank the strength staff at the University of Texas for giving me the strength and mental toughness I have gained the last three years," Carson wrote Thursday in a note posted to Twitter. "Specifically, coach McKnight for taking me and molding me into the man I've become today." Running back Bruce Jordan-Swilling also is considering using a second senior season, possibly elsewhere. "Our main goal is to graduate and then try to make a decision," said Pat Swilling, Bruce's father and a Tech legend. "We all know that they have a lot of great running backs ahead of Bruce, and Bruce wants to play football. I think a lot of that is going to have to do with what coach Collins tells him."

Jordan-Swilling is on course to graduate in the spring with a degree in business. After switching in the spring from linebacker to running back - a position where he was a four-star prospect in high school - he has played on special teams, but has had few snaps at running back behind Jahmyr Gibbs, Jordan Mason and Jamious Griffin. In any other year, Jordan-Swilling would just be out of luck. This year, he has another chance. Swilling even pointed out that, not having redshirted, Jordan-Swilling could go to another school, play four games in 2021 and redshirt and then play a full season in 2022. One of South Carolina football's transfers didn't take long to find a new home. Defensive tackle Makius Scott announced he'd leave the Gamecocks on Friday and Monday he announced he's headed to Georgia Tech. He opted out right after Will Muschamp was fired in November. A former three-star recruit, Scott played in no games this season. He was the No. 755 recruit in the country. The Gamecocks mainly relied on Zacch Pickens, Jabari Ellis, Keir Thomas and Rick Sandidge at tackle. M.J. Webb was the No. 5 option, moving past Scott and an injured Alex Huntley on the depth chart. Tennessee kicker Brent Cimaglia has opted out of the Volunteers' final two games of the season, citing injuries and a need to focus on his mental well-being. Cimaglia said in a post on social media Monday that took him some time to come to that conclusion. "However my focus is to work on my mental well-being and physical health," Cimaglia wrote. "Due to many hardships and struggles within the program, it is in my best interest to take this additional time to rehabilitate ongoing injuries. I look forward to giving my best in the future."

Cimaglia made 85.1% of his kicks last season. This season the senior is just 5-of-9 on field goals and missed an extra point in Saturday's 31-19 loss to No. 6 Florida, his first miss after 88 made extra points. Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt said he talked with Cimaglia, who has played through "difficult circumstances" this season. Pruitt said Cimaglia also indicated he will come back next season with this season not counting against player eligibility. "He feels like that it's better for him not to participate the remainder of the season and put him in a better spot to get ready for next year," Pruitt said. - AP College Football

When the season ends, Camp will have a decision about a potential third senior season, as the NCAA has granted all fall-sports athletes an extra season of eligibility. Camp's father said the family hasn't made a decision on whether to take it. Richard Camp believes his son can play in the NFL - he has the benefit of having trained a number of NFL players - but realizes that his numbers won't stick out. That said, wide receivers with as few as 25 catches in the 2019 season were taken in the draft. And Camp certainly would catch notice at Tech's Pro Day. Richard Camp said that his son has a 40.5-inch vertical, can run the 40-yard dash under 4.5 seconds, can bench press more than 400 pounds and squat more than 550. Richard Camp said he'll put his trust in the guidance of Collins and Dixon. Before then, Tech and Camp will see if they can build on the form they showed against Duke. Showell is the fourth Yellow Jackets player who has put his name into the transfer database since the start of the season. He made his second career start earlier this season against Boston College. Georgia Tech defensive end Antonneous Clayton has opted out of the remainder of the season, an announcement he made from his Twitter account Tuesday. Clayton said that he was taking a break on account of his mental health, saying that he had not previously made that his top priority because he wanted to be a role model for his teammates and other non-teammate friends who look up to him. Clayton transferred to Tech from Florida in 2019 and then sat out the season after his request for an immediate-eligibility waiver (and a subsequent appeal) was denied by the NCAA. After an injury kept him off the field for the first two games of this season, Clayton has played in five games, starting four. He has nine tackles, 2.5 for loss and two sacks.

Clayton added that he was making the decision to take leave of the team "so that I can come back stronger next year and be the leader and teammate that this team deserves and get my priorities and life in order." Clayton, a senior, can return for next season, as the NCAA has granted all fall-sports athletes an extra season of eligibility. Tech has three more games scheduled, including a game Saturday at N.C. Entering Friday's games, Harvin was fourth nationally at 47.7 yards per punt, his best season average to this point (he's second at Tech in career average behind Brooks) and on track to break Tech's single-season record, held by Rodney Williams (45.6 yards, set in 1997). He has twice been recognized as the Ray Guy Award's national punter of the week. But more important to Harvin, the Jackets stood third in FBS in net punting at 45 yards per punt before Friday's games. "That's a team one," Harvin said, explaining net punting's significance. "I could care less about my average. It's the team average I'm more concerned about."

Harvin's excellence this season in repeatedly connecting his cuneiform bones to football sweet spots can be traced back to last winter and spring. Particularly when quarantining measures freed up his time, Harvin returned to the basics, training by himself on the fields at Tech's Campus Recreation Center. "I just really took advantage of the time to break all of my punting stuff down, get better step by step, put together," he said. A second-year Alabama outside linebacker has entered the NCAA transfer portal. Redshirt freshman Kevin Harris, a four-star member of the Crimson Tide's 2019 recruiting class, went into the transfer portal Friday afternoon, AL.com has learned. While Harris flashed some pass rush ability during preseason practices, the Georgia native hadn't gotten any game action during his first two seasons with the Crimson Tide. Georgia Tech freshman wide receiver Avery Boyd suffered a season-ending injury in the Louisville game, coach Geoff Collins said Tuesday. "So just prayers up for him," Collins said. "A great kid. The future is ridiculously bright for him." Boyd, from Tallahassee, Fla., is one of three freshman wide receivers on the roster, along with Ryan King and Nate McCollum. Collins said he believed that Boyd ran the 40-yard dash in 4.35 seconds at a camp at Tech before his signing. "His work ethic, his attitude - all of those things that we value in this program - he has," Collins said. "And just excited about, once he continues to get healthy, the contributions that he's going to make in every phase because that size/speed body type is going to be great for us on special teams, as well as in being an elite receiver for us. Backup rover Paul Moala, a local product from Penn High School, suffered a torn Achilles tendon against Florida State, Kelly said. The junior will undergo surgery to repair the Achilles and will miss the rest of the season. In Moala's absence, Ohio State grad transfer Isaiah Pryor will be elevated as the backup to Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah. The 6-foot-2, 199-pound Pryor came to the Irish as a safety, but he started transitioning to rover earlier this season.
