Texas defensive back Kenyatta Watson II will transfer to Georgia Tech, the redshirt freshman announced on Monday. Shortly after Watson's announcement, Texas removed his name from its roster. A reserve in two of Texas' first three games this season, Watson reportedly entered the NCAA's transfer portal earlier this month. When asked about Watson last week, Texas defensive coordinator Chris Ash said "That's just a personal choice that he made. We love Kenyatta, love his family. It's part of college football. Wish him nothing but success with what he chooses to do." A Georgia native, the 6-1, 184-pound Watson was regarded as a four-star talent when he signed with Texas in 2019. - Austin American Statesman

Texas Longhorns redshirt freshman cornerback Kenyatta Watson II intends to enter the NCAA transfer portal, according to a report from Inside Texas and confirmed by other outlets on Sunday. The 6'1, 184-pounder from Georgia powerhouse Grayson High School in Loganville, Watson was a consensus four-star prospect in the 2019 recruiting class who was ranked as the No. 131 player and No. 16 cornerback, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. A one-time Florida State commit, Watson held more than 40 offers when he committed to Texas in 2018. The son of a former NFL player, Watson arrived at Texas as an elite athlete - he ran a 4.50 40-yard dash, a 4.12 shuttle, and a 45.2-inch vertical leap. As a freshman, Watson played in four games to preserve his redshirt, recording six tackles and one pass breakup. - Burnt Orange Nation

His name is Shamarious, but his friends call him Quion (Da'Quion is his middle name) or Kwon. The 6-3, 295-pound senior from Drew High is a three-year starter and last year helped the team set school records for rushing yards and total offense. Gilmore is the most decorated player on the team. He was an honorable mention All-Sun Belt choice in 2017 and 2018, a third-team selection in 2019 and a first-team preseason selection this season. He was named to the watch list for the Outland Trophy. "He's been playing forever," Elliott said. "I don't know many snaps he's had, but he's almost played every down the last three seasons. That's crazy to think about. He's seen so much football, he just has great knowledge and knows what to expect. No moment is too big for him." Gilmore is one of four returning starters on one of the most experienced group of returning linemen in the conference. - Marietta Daily Journal

Trajan Stephens-McQueen plans to use his voice, as well as his physical skills, to help improve the quality of the Georgia State defense next season. Before the cancellation of spring practice, Stephens-McQueen had become a new vocal leader for the Panthers. The team's top tackler in 2019 embraced his role of increased leadership and was eager to become a guiding force on defense. "We've definitely got new leaders emerging, making us try to come together as one this year," Stephens-McQueen said then. "After taking a backseat to Ed Curney (who graduated), it's my last year, and I'm having to be the voice, talking every practice and being the one who brings the energy from the time we get here until the time we leave. And I'm loving that the guys are following me and supporting me fully, and I'm loving the senior experience."

The Charlotte native was a backup at inside linebacker during his first two seasons, but blossomed as a junior. He led the team in tackles (110), falling only six stops short of the single-season record set by Joseph Peterson in 2015, and had 8.5 tackles for loss. He ranked fifth in the Sun Belt Conference with 8.5 tackles per game. Stephens-McQueen's best effort came on a rainy night against Army at Georgia State Stadium. He set the school record with 20 tackles, 10 of them solo stops, and was named Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week. It was one of four games in which he had double-digit tackles. Unlike some modern players, who prefer to avoid contact, Stephens-McQueen (6-foot-1, 230 pounds) enjoys it. That predilection, along with his quickness and instincts, makes him an ideal middle linebacker. - Atlanta Journal Constitution
