To say that All-Sun Belt Conference offensive guard and team captain Shamarious Gilmore is the elder statesman of the Georgia State program would be an understatement. One of six "super seniors" who have elected to utilize the extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA due to the pandemic, Gilmore is the only one who has been in the program for six years. He enrolled at Georgia State in the fall of 2016 and took a redshirt year. Gilmore earned a starting berth as a redshirt freshman, and he has been in the lineup ever since. Not only has he started 47 consecutive games on the offensive line, but he has rarely come out of the game.

During that time, he has been a key figure in the top three rushing seasons in program history in 2018, 2019 and 2020 and has helped the Panthers average 221 yards rushing, 433 yards of total offense and 32 points per game over the last two years. Gilmore is the first player in GSU history to be a four-time all-conference selection, including first-team All-Sun Belt honors last season. He also made history as the first, and still the only, GSU offensive lineman to score a touchdown. He realized that lineman's dream as a freshman in 2017 at Charlotte, when he recovered a fumble in the end zone after a blocked field goal. Known as "Quion," his full name is Shamarious Da'Quion Bernard Gilmore. - Georgia State Football

  07/08/21 - Quavian WhiterSr/2023, Georgia State, 5-09, 185 (DS#62 CB) + More +

Senior cornerback Quavian White has a chance to etch his name into the Georgia State record books this season. He enters 2021 with six career interceptions, just one behind Chandon Sullivan's school record of seven. White also ranks third in GSU annals with 23 career pass defended (interceptions plus breakups), two behind Sullivan's record of 25. Georgia State's season opener against Army should bring back good memories for White. In the Panthers' 2019 victory over the Black Knights, the GSU cornerback sealed the 28-21 win with an interception at the 2-yard line on fourth down with one minute left.

White had similar late-game heroics last season against Georgia Southern with an interception in the final two minutes to preserve the Panthers' 30-24 victory. The Greer, S.C., native earned second-team All-Sun Belt Conference honors in 2020 as he ranked fifth in the conference and No. 20 in FBS in pass defended with three interceptions and eight pass breakups, helping the GSU defense rank No. 8 in turnovers forced. White also contributed 1.5 of the Panthers' school-record 35 sacks from his cornerback position. - Georgia State Football

Bo Nix isn't the only Auburn quarterback to secure an endorsement for his name, image and likeness this week. TJ Finley, the former LSU quarterback who transferred to Auburn in May, announced Friday night that he has partnered with PSD Underwear, a "premium, on trend boxer brief" brand based in Los Angeles. The brand boasts 570,000-plus followers on Instagram. Auburn wide receiver J.J. Evans also announced late Friday night on his Instagram account that he partnered with PSD Underwear. - Birmingham News

With the college football season just over two months away, now is the time for fans to quench their appetite with preseason magazines. Phil Steele's College Football Preview recently hit the streets featuring 14 Panthers on its Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference teams, led by four first-team selections: RB Destin Coates, WR Sam Pinckney, G Shamarious Gilmore and PK Noel Ruiz.

Six more Panthers made Phil Steele's Preseason All-Sun Belt second team: TE Roger Carter on the offensive side, as wells as NG Dontae Wilson, DE Hardrick Willis, ILB Blake Carroll, CB Quavian White and S Antavious Lane. That's five members of a Georgia State defense that ranked in the Top 10 in FBS in sacks and turnovers created while setting a school record for fewest rushing yards per carry allowed. - Georgia State Football

  06/11/21 - Malik SumterrSr/2023, Georgia State, 6-1, 299 (DS#48 C) + More +

The center of attention for the Georgia State offense is Malik Sumter, a three-year starter and two-time All-Sun Belt Conference performer on the front line. Including Sumter, all five starters return on the Panthers' offensive line, which has been a key component in Georgia State's record-setting offenses, paving the way for a productive running game while protecting the quarterback for an explosive passing attack. As a unit, the offensive line enters the 2021 season with 137 career starts. Sumter has started 28 straight games at center, helping the Panthers average 219 yards rushing per game since he moved into the starting lineup. Not bad for a guy who had never played center before college! - Georgia State Football

  06/07/21 - Chris MoorerSr/2022, Georgia State, 6-1, 216 (DS#121 SS) + More +

Safety Chris Moore is one of seven "super seniors" who are back for more, taking advantage of the extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA due to the pandemic. The Ashburn, Va., native made an immediate impact at GSU as a starting safety with 34 tackles, one tackle for loss, three pass breakups and a forced fumble. Moore had one of his best games in the LendingTree Bowl win over WKU with five tackles and two pass breakups to help the defense allow a season-low 284 yards of total offense.

Another top performance came at Appalachian State, when he made a season-high eight tackles as the GSU defense held the Mountaineers to their season low of 310 total yards. In another strong defensive effort at South Alabama, Moore forced a fumble that the Panthers recovered. He also contributed on special teams, executing a fake punt vs. ULM, when he took a handoff and ran 32 yards for the first down. - Georgia State Football

  05/24/21 - TJ FinleyrSr/2026, Georgia State, 6-6, 230 (DS#45 QB) + More +

Bo Nix is no longer the only player on Auburn's roster with starting experience as an SEC quarterback. Former LSU quarterback TJ Finley committed to the Tigers Monday, choosing Auburn over the other three schools he announced as finalists - Penn State, Houston and Alabama. At Auburn, Finley expects to get a chance to compete with Nix for the Tigers' starting quarterback job. If nothing else though, Auburn has added quality depth to its quarterback room and additional competition for the backup spot behind Nix on the Tigers' quarterback depth chart.

Before Monday, Grant Loy - who threw for 1,137 yards at Bowling Green in 2019 - and freshman Dematrius Davis were the only scholarship QBs on the Tigers roster aside from Nix. While Finley ended the spring as LSU's No. 3 quarterback, the 6-foot-6, 240-pound Louisiana native started five games as a freshman last season and threw for 941 yards and five touchdowns with five interceptions. - Birmingham News

  05/20/21 - Terrance DixonrSr/2024, Georgia State, 5-07, 175 (DS#999 WR) + More +

In 2021, Terrance Dixon earned the unique distinction of becoming the first Georgia State player to wear jersey No. 0. When an NCAA rule change made 0 a legal number legal for the first time, that jersey was coveted, and Coach Elliott elected to award it to the player who best exemplified doing everything the "right way," on the field and off. Although "Lil T" is one of the smallest players on the team at 5-7 and 170 pounds, Dixon is a productive force on the GSU offense. He was fourth on the team with 19 receptions for 215 yards, along with nine rushes for 88 yards.

He saved his best game for Georgia Southern with seven caches for a career-best 77 yards, including two crucial catches on the winning touchdown drive in the fourth quarter. Dixon is a former walk-on who was awarded a scholarship prior to the 2019 season, when he originally earned his starting berth. He had a breakout game in the Panthers' win over Furman with eight catches for 68 yards, including a 12-yard touchdown catch on the final play of the first half, but suffered a season-ending knee injury in the second half. The Columbus, Ga., native is scheduled to earn his degree this summer before playing his final season. - Georgia State Football

  05/17/21 - TJ FinleyrSr/2026, Georgia State, 6-6, 230 (DS#45 QB) + More +

There's a date that looms large in the recruitment of former LSU quarterback TJ Finley - June 3. That's when the SEC's presidents are reportedly set to vote on whether to do away with the league's rule that requires intraconference transfers to sit out a season before being eligible. Although the NCAA passed a one-time transfer waiver this spring, that one hurdle is still in place in the SEC, and the status of that rule will factor into Finley's decision on where to transfer, he told AL.com on Sunday.

"Some SEC schools wanted me to wait on that rule because of course if they bring me in, they expect me to compete and try to play this year and not have to sit out or wait or whatever," Finley said. "That plays a big part in my decision on where I want to go play." Several Power 5 programs have reached out to Finley since he hit the transfer portal May 6, including Auburn, Alabama, Mississippi State and Texas A&M within the SEC. Penn State and Michigan, both in the Big Ten, are also in the mix for the former three-star prospect who started five games for LSU as a true freshman last season. - Birmingham News

  05/08/21 - TJ FinleyrSr/2026, Georgia State, 6-6, 230 (DS#45 QB) + More +

LSU quarterback TJ Finley officially entered the NCAA transfer portal Thursday morning, a development that came a day after news broke that the Tigers four-man quarterback battle was heading to just three players. The sophomore and Ponchatoula High graduate posted a farewell message on Twitter that said in part that "change is never easy, but is needed for growth." The 6-foot-6, 242-pound Finley had a 2-3 record as a starter last season and completed 80-of-140 passes for 941 yards, five touchdowns and five interceptions. Finley started in five games as a freshman, stepping in for Myles Brennan when he suffered a season-ending abdominal muscle tear against Missouri in the third game of the season. Finley won the job over freshman Max Johnson at the time, but after inconsistent play over his five starts, LSU coach Ed Orgeron started Johnson in the final two games of the season. - Baton Rouge Advocate
