Fresno State's Jalen Cropper joined some elite company by catching four touchdown passes against UNLV. He is among four players in program history to accomplish the feat, a list that includes Davante Adams, now with the Green Bay Packers. Cropper has a TD in six straight games, the first Fresno State player to do it since Adams scored in nine games in a row over the 2012-13 seasons. Delivering the ball to Cropper was Jake Haener, whose five TD passes against UNLV were most in a game by a Bulldogs player since Derek Carr did it in 2013. - AP College Football

  09/24/21 - Jake HaenerrSr/2023, Fresno State, 6-0, 207 (DS#10 QB) + More +

When the game was on the line, Fresno State kept going to a familiar formula. Jake Haener threw four TD passes in the second half to Jalen Cropper and No. 22 Fresno State rallied from a 12-point deficit to beat winless UNLV 38-30 on Friday night. The Bulldogs (4-1, 1-0 Mountain West) started slow in their return to the AP poll for the first time since 2018 before Haener once again took over the game in the second half.

One week after throwing for 455 yards, including a go-ahead TD pass with 14 seconds left to Jalen Cropper, in a 40-37 win at No. 13 UCLA, that combo delivered again with four TDs in the second half. "I just feel like there's a lot of trust between me and Jake on and off the field," Cropper said. "I feel like just everything we do from on and off the field to whatever we do in our relationship, I think that ties into what we do on the field." Haener connected on scoring strikes of 4, 23 and 25 yards to Cropper on three straight possessions to turn a 21-9 deficit in to a 29-21 lead. Then, after UNLV (0-4, 0-1) battled back to take a 30-29 lead on Daniel Gutierrez's 30-yard field goal with 6:38 to play, Haener and Cropper struck again with a 26-yard TD that made it 35-30 with 4:53 to play. Haener finished the game 30 for 42 for 378 yards and five TDs. - Fresno State/AP College Football

  09/19/21 - Jake HaenerrSr/2023, Fresno State, 6-0, 207 (DS#10 QB) + More +

Jake Haener transferred out of Washington to Fresno State and turned into a Pac-12 killer. The Bulldogs quarterback engineered two late touchdown drives to upset No. 13 UCLA and turn Pac-12 After Dark into a debacle for the West's Coast Power Five conference. San Diego State beat Utah in three overtimes, No. 23 BYU won at No. 19 Arizona State, with the help of an amazing chase-down by Tyson Allgeier, and Northern Arizona beat Arizona for the first time in almost 90 years. But nothing was worse than the UCLA loss. Just two weeks ago the Bruins knocked off LSU and seemed on the way to a big season under Chip Kelly. Then Haener, playing through pain, put on one of the performances of the season, throwing for 455 yards and two touchdowns. The Pac-12 is 16-16 in nonconference games, including three losses to BYU, five against Mountain West teams - such as Fresno State - and two to FCS schools. - AP College Football

Fresno State's Jake Haener was able to overcome a crushing hit to his right hip to lead the Bulldogs to an upset victory over No. 13 UCLA. Haener threw for 455 yards, including the go-ahead touchdown pass to Jalen Cropper with 14 seconds remaining, as the Bulldogs beat the Bruins 40-37 Saturday night at the Rose Bowl. "We know he's tough, right. We've seen that over the course of last year and this year. He's tough," Fresno State coach Kalen DeBoer said. "When the pressure was great, he was at his best and that's what's awesome." Haener had to be at his best in a game that saw four lead changes over the final 7:27 after the Bulldogs had a 23-10 lead at halftime.

Fresno State finished the job against a Pac-12 program after leading then-No. 11 Oregon in the fourth quarter two weeks ago before losing. "I mean, we just made one more play, right? We made one more play," DeBoer said. "Fifty-four seconds that I just think about what our guys are capable of doing, it didn't feel like it was too big of a feat at all." Haener's 19-yard strike to Erik Brooks put Fresno State back in front 33-30 with 2:55 remaining, but he was wincing in pain on the ground after taking numerous hits throughout the night. After UCLA regained the lead with 54 seconds left on Dorian Thompson-Robinson's 15-yard pass to Kyle Phillips, a limping Haener directed a six-play, 75-yard drive that gave the Bulldogs (3-1) their fourth straight win over the Bruins. "He was a pretty mobile quarterback. We struggled to keep him in the pocket," UCLA cornerback Qwuantrezz Knight said. - Fresno State/AP College Football

  09/12/21 - Jake HaenerrSr/2023, Fresno State, 6-0, 207 (DS#10 QB) + More +

Jake Haener matched a career high with four touchdown passes, and he ran for two scores to lead Fresno State to a 63-10 victory over Cal Poly on Saturday night. Haener was 17-of-22 passing for 380 yards, and two of his scoring throws were over 50 yards. He added touchdown runs of 2 and 1 yard and finished with 11 yards rushing. Josh Kelly made three receptions for 128 yards with two touchdowns for Fresno State (2-1).

Zane Pope, Jalen Cropper and Keric Wheatfall also made a TD catch. Ronnie Rivers, the nation's active leader in career touchdowns with 46, had a 6-yard touchdown run for Fresno State early in the third quarter. He had 64 yards rushing on 14 carries. Spencer Brasch completed 18 of 33 passes for 212 yards for Cal Poly (1-1). He threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Chris Coleman in the second quarter. It was the eighth straight victory for the Bulldogs in the series but the first since 2013. - Fresno State/AP College Football

  08/30/21 - Ronnie RiversrSr/2022, Fresno State, 5-08, 198 (DS#44 RB) + More +

In January, Ronnie Rivers announced on Twitter that he would be returning for one more season with the Fresno State Bulldogs. After all, there was some unfinished business left for Rivers. Heading into the Bulldogs' opener, Rivers shared the record with Anthony Daigle, who played from 1991-1993, for the most career touchdowns in Fresno State history. But it didn't take long for the fifth-year running back to break that record, as Rivers caught a 61-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jake Haener to score touchdown No. 45, en route to the Bulldogs' 45-0 shutout win over the UConn Huskies on Saturday afternoon.

It came at a special moment as fans were finally allowed back into Bulldog Stadium for the first time since 2019. Among the crowd was his family, which included his father, Fresno State football hall of famer Ron Rivers. "This is my last season," Rivers said. "To be able to play in front of Bulldog fans again was great. I know a lot of guys were excited and brought the energy. We can't wait until the next home game when they're out there again." Haener said he was waiting to throw the ball to Rivers for his record-breaking touchdown. Rivers missed his chance last season during a game against Nevada. He ran the ball into the endzone for what would have been the touchdown No. 45 for him, but officials called the play back due to an illegal block by Haener. "I'm happy for Ronnie," Haener said. "He works really hard on his craft and he's really fun to be around." - The Collegian

  08/28/21 - Jake HaenerrSr/2023, Fresno State, 6-0, 207 (DS#10 QB) + More +

Jake Haener threw for three touchdowns and 331 yards and Fresno State started its 100th year of football with a 45-0 win over Connecticut on Saturday. Haener left the contest on the Bulldogs' first drive of the second half due to apparent leg cramps as temperatures on the field reached 120 degrees. Haener, a transfer from Washington, threw all his TD passes in the second quarter and by intermission had 299 passing yards.

Haener threw a short crossing route to Jalen Cropper who weaved and outraced the defense for an 86-yard score to make it 28-0 just before halftime. Fresno State struck first with 2:52 left in the first quarter when defensive end Arron Mosby sacked quarterback Zac Zergiotis, forced a fumble then ran it back 31 yards for a 7-0 lead. Zergiotis threw for 61 yards. The Huskies (0-1) made their first-ever trip to Fresno, California. The contest marked their first game since Nov. 30, 2019. The team's last win occurred Oct. 26, 2019 when it beat UMass 56-35. - Fresno State/AP College Football

  08/27/21 - Korey ForemanrSr/2026, Fresno State, 6-4, 245 (DS#48 DE) + More +

Few true freshmen are ready in Week 1 to play every snap of their first game in college. The key is to find a role in which they can get some early success before they are prepared for a larger role. That's the case even for the No. 1 recruit in the country. USC defensive end Korey Foreman is still learning as the Trojans approach their season opener against San Jose State next weekend. But the coaching staff does feel like Foreman will be ready to contribute in his own way. "He's still learning the defense on base downs, first and second down, but I know he can do one thing," head coach Clay Helton said on Tuesday. "He can rush the passer on third down." This has been apparent throughout camp, when Foreman has broken through off the edge to harass quarterbacks regularly.

Even when tied up in blocks, the true freshman from Centennial High in Corona is savvy enough to get his arms up and block passes at the line of scrimmage. That's the easy part for Foreman, what comes naturally to him, though he continues to hone those skills with outside linebacker Drake Jackson and his defensive linemates. But there are still parts of the college game where Foreman is adjusting. He's embracing the demands of USC's strength and conditioning program. He's reduced his body fat from 13 to 10% since arriving on campus this summer. Foreman is currently listed at 10 pounds below his goal weight of 275 pounds, a target that's been difficult to achieve out of the gates. - Orange County Register

  08/18/21 - Korey ForemanrSr/2026, Fresno State, 6-4, 245 (DS#48 DE) + More +

Korey Foreman and Raesjon Davis arrived at USC with high external expectations. That's what comes with the recruiting pedigree and the distinction of being Southern California guys staying at the local school. But through four days of fall camp, both players are trying to fit in rather than make any bold verbal proclamations. "A lot of things you just gotta push behind you. I'm here for one reason and that's to make myself better and to win a national championship with my team," said Foreman, directing any questions of potential playing time to Coach Clay Helton. "But my own expectations of myself are just being able to work every single day, come to the facility every single day and just strive and give my best to every single rep." Davis struck a similar tune, saying of his goals, "Just to get better, try and learn the playbook as fast possible, try and learn as much as I can from Coach (Todd) Orlando (defensive coordinator) to get developed as quickly as possible so I can just help the team out as much as I can."

Foreman, a defensive end, arrived at USC as the nation's top recruit out of Centennial High in Corona. Davis was a four-star linebacker out of Mater Dei, and the two were the crown jewels of USC's 2021 recruiting class on the defensive side of the ball. And they have opportunities to play as true freshmen. Though Foreman and Davis are both working with the second-team defense in practice, both the defensive line and linebacking corps have depth issues that could present opportunities to the young Trojans. "Excited to watch them just put the ball down and just go tackle people," Orlando said, noting their potential roles will depend on how quickly they learn the playbook. "So, work in progress." - Orange County Register

At 6-foot-4 and 265 pounds, he's known as a pass rusher first, but also woks well in the running game. The former California prep star can beat a defender with quickness or power. Will have much to learn at the college level, but could make an impact right away being used as a designated pass rusher whose primary role is to get to the QB. - AP College Football

All eyes this August will be on the nation's top recruit. Foreman's arrival should fortify a USC defensive line that already had the pieces to be one of the Pac-12's best. The question now is how USC plans to use him, and how quickly Foreman will force his way to the top of the Trojans' defensive line rotation. Defensive line coach Vic So'oto hinted at the possibility that USC could move Foreman around as a pass rusher from Day 1, exploiting mismatches by stacking Foreman with his former Corona Centennial teammate, Drake Jackson. Wherever he plays, Foreman has the potential to be special. - Los Angeles Times

  07/26/21 - Ronnie RiversrSr/2022, Fresno State, 5-08, 198 (DS#44 RB) + More +

Fresno State running back Ronnie Rivers announced his decision to return for a second senior season on social media, and since has not talked much about it. There obviously is a lot out there for the Bulldogs' back, who is close to setting a number of school records including career touchdowns and the potential for another championship season. But from a family dynamic, what is more important: surpassing the rushing total racked up by his father, Ron, who was the all-time leading rusher at Fresno State before playing in the NFL for six seasons; or putting up numbers to a point that his little brother Devon, who just completed a dynamic sophomore season at Heritage High in Brentwood, will find them to be out of reach no matter where he decides to play his college football? "I would say both," Rivers said on Thursday at the Mountain West Conference media days.

Both at this point are possible in a Fresno State offense that returns more than 90% of its passing, rushing and receiving production. Ronnie Rivers, who was the only Fresno State player selected to the Mountain West preseason all-conference team this year, needs 844 rushing yards to match the 3,473 his father churned out from 1991 to '93. He already has scored 44 touchdowns, tied with Anthony Daigle for the most in school history, and with a solid season can end up in the Bulldogs' Top 5 for career rushing touchdowns, rushing yards and all-purpose yards. Rivers has put up those numbers despite splitting time his first two seasons with Jordan Mims and Josh Hokit - he has only 42.4% of the rushing plays by Bulldogs' running backs over his career. - Fresno Bee
