Kobe Lewis' jersey number at Central Michigan was No. 4 and naturally, the transfer running back wanted to keep it the same at Purdue. Receiver Rondale Moore was the last player to wear No. 4 on offense for the Boilermakers. "The last person who wore that jersey was a baller," Lewis was told by the Purdue coaches. "I was like, 'You know what; I want to be a baller too.' Hopefully, he left some of his luck on that jersey and it rubs off on me. I want to fill his shoes." If Lewis' production matches what Moore did, the offense will take a big step forward in the running game during the 2022 season.

While gaining nearly 1,600 career yards with the Chippewas, Lewis became of fan of Moore from a distance. "Even when I was in college, he was in college and just watching him, that dude, I just love him," said Lewis, who is the 11th transfer to join the program since the end of last season. "He made me fall in love with the program." And now he's part of the program where he can attempt to lift the running game out of the basement of the Big Ten. The Boilermakers have ranked last among conference teams in rushing yards the last three years. - Journal and Courier

Purdue's rushing attack received a potential boost Sunday when former Central Michigan running back Kobe Lewis announced his transfer to the Boilermakers. Lewis, a graduate transfer with two years of eligibility remaining, missed the 2021 season with an ACL injury. Lewis, who is from Americus, Georgia, was on campus over the weekend and was checked out by Purdue's doctors to determine the health of his knee, the Journal & Courier has learned.

The 5-foot-11, 220-pound Lewis could give the struggling running game a lift. He's rushed for 1,579 career yards, scored 18 touchdowns and has eight 100-yard games. Lewis has 40 receptions for 270 yards during this time with the Chippewas and likely will help the Boilermakers in the return game. Lewis returned 26 kickoffs during the 2018 season - the most among Mid-American Conference players - averaging 21.9 yards, which ranked third in the league. - Journal and Courier

Central Michigan running back Kobe Lewis has entered the transfer portal, according to a report from Matt Zenitz of On3 Sports. He will be eligible immediately as a graduate transfer. Lewis suffered a preseason knee injury that forced him to miss the entire 2021 season. Heading into the 2022 campaign, he had been rehabbing the injury in Atlanta, Georgia near his hometown of Americus. Prior to the news of his transfer, coach Jim McElwain said he would be available when the team began summer workouts. Lewis was expected to be an important player at running back next to Lew Nichols III, who is the reigning NCAA leader in rushing yards. Nichols was the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Year and a first team All-MAC selection in 2021. In four seasons with the Chippewas, Lewis rushed for 1,579 yards and 18 touchdowns. His top showing came in 2019, when he rushed for 1,074 yards as the secondary option behind Jonathan Ward. - Central Michigan Life

Two more South Carolina players appear to be leaving the program. Defensive linemen Keem Green and Devontae Davis are both in the transfer portal, a South Carolina spokesperson confirmed to The State on Monday. Rivals first reported the news of Green's entrance, while The Big Spur reported Davis' possible departure. Green, a former four-star junior college recruit worked mostly with the scout team and didn't play in a game last season. Green played in eight games for the Cornhuskers between 2019 and 2020 after two years at Highland Community College in Kansas. He was credited with a half-tackle in Saturday's annual Garnet and Black spring game. Davis appeared in nine games at South Carolina after transferring in from Georgia Military College. The New Ellenton native compiled just four tackles in his Gamecocks career. Green and Davis' potential departures come just hours after receiver/tight end E.J. Jenkins announced via Twitter that he planned on entering the transfer portal. - Rock Hill Herald

Nebraska quarterback Adrian Martinez announced Thursday that he will enter the transfer portal, another blow for the struggling Cornhuskers. The three-time captain completed his best season in 2021, completing 61.8% of his throws for 2,863 yards with 14 touchdowns and 10 interceptions for a career-best rating of 149.0. He played in 39 games during his four-year career, going 14-25 while winning just eight Big Ten games. He didn't play in last week's season-ending loss to Iowa after having surgery on his right shoulder. Martinez could play two more college seasons because the NCAA granted players an extra year of eligibility during last year's shortened COVID-19 season. - AP College Football
