Jeremy Moussa ran for one third-quarter touchdown and passed for another and Florida A&M rallied from a 10-3 second-half deficit for a 20-16 win over Grambling Saturday. Kamari Stephens got a clutch sack, and Florida A&M stopped Grambling on downs in the red zone in the final minute to seal it.   Florida A&M will be without 20 ineligible players and down to only eight available offensive linemen when it plays at North Carolina on Saturday night, an athletic department spokesman said Friday. Spokesman Josh Padilla said a variety of academic-related issues with players have left the Rattlers short-handed, but the team was preparing to head to the airport for the flight from Tallahassee, Florida, to Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Coach Willie Simmons told WTXL-TV in Tallahassee earlier that he was concerned about having enough players, especially on the offensive line, to compete safely. Florida A&M, a Southwestern Athletic Conference school in the second tier of Division I, is set to receive a $450,000 payout to play at North Carolina. Had the team not played, the school would have foregone the payment and could have been subjected to financial penalties for breaking the contract and forcing North Carolina to cancel a home game. - AP College Football

There's something to be said for stability, particularly at the quarterback position. The Central Michigan football team has it in 2022 in Daniel Richardson, the clearcut starter who is referred to by teammates as QB1. He's a sophomore in his fourth year - he redshirted in 2019 and the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign did not count against his eligibility - and now a veteran who last year led his team to nine victories and a win in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl. "I think the first thing you like about him is just his love of the game, his love to compete," first-year CMU offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Paul Petrino said. "He's really smart, he has great knowledge, he's easy to teach, very coachable. "He's really accurate, he's got a strong arm, he can make all the throws."

It's not as if Richardson - D-Rich to his coaches and teammates - was anointed when he came to Mount Pleasant in 2019 after a brilliant high school career in Miami, where he put up eye-popping numbers playing against some of the best prep competition in the nation. He bided his time behind the veterans early on before claiming the starting job in 2020. An injury ended his season after four games and then in 2021, he found himself coming off the bench early in the Chippewas' 'first four games. The breakout moment came in the fourth quarter of the Chippewas' fourth game of 2021, a 31-27 victory over Florida International. Richardson came out of the bullpen to toss three fourth-quarter touchdown passes and rally his team from a 27-10 deficit. Richardson started every game for the remainder of the season, completing 60.4 percent of his passes for 2,633 yards and 24 touchdowns against just six interceptions. - Central Michigan football

2022 PRESEASON STATS PERFORM FCS FIRST TEAM ALL-AMERICAN: LB - Isaiah Land 6-4, 215, senior, Florida A&M (2021),...The winner of the 2021 Buck Buchanan Award, honoring the nation's top defensive player in FCS football, Land led the nation in sacks with 19 and in TFLs with 25.5. Not bad for a player who was 6-3, 180 pounds in high school and whose only offer was from Florida A&M. After last season, Land put his name in the portal and drew offers from Auburn, Georgia, LSU and Texas, among others, but opted to stay at FAMU. Coach Willie Simmons says he loves Land's motor and his toughness. Land, now 6-4, 225, clocked a 4.6 40 this offseason and broad-jumped 10-9. His L-drill time was 6.7 seconds. He also bench pressed 375 and squatted 600." - Florida A&M Football
