  Daniel Richardson threw a pair of touchdown passes to rally Florida A&M from an 11-point fourth quarter deficit to top South Carolina State 22-18 on Saturday night. Florida A&M moves to 2-0 to start the season after edging Norfolk State 24-23 August 23. Richardson found Koby Gross from 29 yards out to give the Rattlers a 7-6 lead at intermission, but South Carolina State took the lead in the third quarter when Eric Phoenix hit KZ Adams with an 8-yard touchdown pass with 4 seconds left in the third quarter and Josh Shaw pushed the lead to 18-7 lead with a 1-yard touchdown run less than three minutes into the fourth.

Richardson engineered a six-play, 74-yard drive top get within two points, hitting Karter Johnson from 7-yards out, then pulling down a 2-point conversion catch from Gross. The Rattlers marched 84 yards for the go-ahead touchdown when Richardson hit J. Thad Franklin for a 6-yard score. Richardson completed 23 of 38 passes for 282 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Rattlers. Levontai Summersett carried 11 times for 62 yards. Phoenix was 12-of-25 passing for 132 yards to lead the Bulldogs in their season opener. Deondre Duehart carried 10 times for 74 yards. - AP College Football

  Daniel Richardson threw three touchdown passes and Florida A&M rallied to defeat Norfolk State 24-23 in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge on Saturday night. It was the first game at Florida A&M for Richardson, who previously played at Florida Atlantic and Central Michigan. It was also the debut for James Colzie III as coach of the Rattlers. Richardson's 55-yard pass to Jamari Gassett gave the Rattlers their first lead, 17-14 early in the third quarter. Later in the third, Richardson threw to Gassett for a 9-yard touchdown and the Rattlers led 24-17.

Norfolk State closed to within 24-23 when Kevon King scored on a 2-yard run with 6 1/2 minutes left in the game. FAMU's Jameel Sanders blocked the PAT but was flagged for being offsides. With the ball at the 1-yard line, the Spartans opted to go for two points and the lead, but quarterback Jalen Daniels was stopped short of the goal line. FAMU then ran off 11 plays and 63 yards to wrap up the win. Richardson completed 22 of 30 passes for 286 yards. Gassett had eight catches for 110 yards. King had 14 carries for 146 yards with two touchdowns and Daniels completed 7 of 9 passes for 142 yards for Norfolk State. - AP College Football

  2022 OHIO VALLEY CONFERENCE ALL-NEWCOMER TEAM: P - Trey Wilhoit, Eastern Illinois,...Wilhoit earned first team All-Ohio Valley Conference honors in his first season punting for the Panthers helping EIU produce some of the best special teams play in the FCS. Wilhoit averaged 44 yards per punt for the season which ranked fifth in the FCS and was the second best single season average in school history. Three times during the regular season Wilhoit was named the OVC Special Teams Player of the Week. He would have a total of 53 punts during the season with a long punt of 62 yards. He ended the season with 12 punts of 50 yards or more while 14 punts were pinned inside the 20-yard line.   Jeremy Moussa passed for two touchdowns, Jaylen McCloud rushed for two scores and Florida A&M beat Bethune-Cookman 41-20 on Saturday in the Florida Classic. Florida A&M (9-2, 7-1 SWAC) extended its winning streak to nine games after season-opening losses to Jackson State and North Carolina. Moussa also had a 24-yard receiving touchdown, on a double pass from WR Xavier Smith, to take a 27-7 lead with 1:01 left before halftime. Smith also made five catches for 76 yards, including a 32-yard touchdown on a pass from Moussa. Smith entered ranked third in the nation (first in SWAC) in receptions per game (8.2), fifth in receiving yards (first in SWAC) with 951 yards, and sixth in receiving touchdowns (first in SWAC) with 10. Moussa entered ranked 18th in passing yards with 2,538 and 19th with 19 passing TDs. Jalon Jones threw for 172 yards with two touchdowns and an interception for Bethune-Cookman (2-9, 2-6).   NOV 14 SWAC SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK: Florida A&M's Kendall Bohler blocked a Alabama State field goal attempt and returned it 51-yards for a touchdown this past weekend to help propel the Florida A&M Rattlers to a key league win. The block happened as the Hornets attempted a potential game-winning 53-yard field goal as time expired. He had a long punt of 47 yards and put three of his punts inside 20-yard line. Wilhoit ranks second in the OVC and seventh nationally in punting average (43.8).   Kendall Bohler blocked a potential game-winning field goal, scooped up the ball and raced 51 yards for a touchdown as time expired and Florida A&M survived a wild finish to beat Alabama State 21-14 on Saturday. The Rattlers were up 15-14 when John Jayden lined up for a 52-yard attempt with 2 seconds left. Bohler broke through and Florida A&M (8-2, 6-1 Southwestern Conference) notched its eighth straight win. Jeremy Moussa threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Xavier Smith to give the Rattlers a 7-0 lead after one quarter.

Wide receiver Isaiah Scott answered with a 37-yard scoring strike to Kisean Johnson and Alabama State (6-4, 4-3) pulled even at halftime. The only score in the third quarter was a safety by Florida A&M when Hornets quarterback Dematrius Davis was flagged for intentional grounding in the end zone. Alabama State took a 14-9 lead with 7:46 remaining in the game when Tyree Saunders blocked a Chris Faddoul punt, picked up the ball and ran 50 yards for a touchdown. Moussa answered with 4:20 left to play, finding Jah'Marae Sheread for a 17-yard touchdown and the Rattlers led 15-14 after a failed 2-point conversion pass.   Jeremy Moussa threw three touchdown passes to lead Florida A&M to a 30-16 victory over Southern on Saturday night for its seventh straight win. Moussa was 17-of-34 passing for 224 yards. Xavier Smith had six receptions for 100 yards and a touchdown for Florida A&M (7-2, 5-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference). Besean McCray's 35-yard touchdown run pulled Southern to 20-16 midway through the third quarter. Moussa's 5-yard TD pass to Jeremiah Pruitte capped a 14-play, 75-yard drive to push the Rattlers' lead to 27-16 late in the third.   Starter Daniel Richardson threw for 150 yards and two touchdowns, backup Jase Bauer rushed for 109 yards and two scores and Central Michigan beat Northern Illinois 35-22 on Wednesday night. Richardson's 15-yard touchdown pass to Tyson Davis gave Central Michigan a 21-0 lead and Bauer's 7-yard run made it 28-7 with 36 seconds left in the third quarter. Bauer's TD capped a 75-yard drive that was aided by holder Luke Elzinga's 20-yard completion on a fake field goal.

Northern Illinois scored 15 points in four minutes, highlighted by a 57-yard scoop and score by Lew Nichols III to make it 28-22. But Central Michigan's defensive capped the scoring with 7:17 left when Kyle Moretti recovered a fumble in the end zone. Central Michigan (3-6, 2-3 Mid-American Conference) used three quarterbacks. Richardson completed 13 of 22, Bauer was 3 of 4 for 36 yards and Luke Elzinga threw for 20 yards.
