Tyler Snead scored two touchdowns, including a 95-yard kickoff return, and East Carolina beat Temple 28-3 on Saturday in a game delayed nearly an hour because of COVID-19 concerns. The game started roughly 50 minutes late after a Temple player was taken back to campus for a rapid COVID-19 test shortly before kickoff. As a result of the situation, five Temple defensive players, including three starters, were ruled out for game because of protocols. Another game-day announcement resulted in the Owls (1-6, 1-6 American Athletic Conference) starting their fifth-string quarterback, walk-on Kamal Gray, after fourth-stringer Matt Duncan was suspended for violating team rules.

Temple's first three quarterbacks were already unavailable because of COVID-19 protocols or injuries. Snead's kickoff return gave the Pirates (2-6, 2-5) a 10-point lead and his 46-yard touchdown catch in the final minute of the half made it 21-3. Holton Ahlers set up his own 1-yard score with a 75-yard run. He also threw for two TDs and was intercepted once. Keaton Mitchell rushed for 103 yards. Gray threw for 95 yards with two interceptions. - East Carolina/AP College Football

Senior kicker Jake Verity has now added the all-time leading scorer title at East Carolina University to his list of accolades, as he is also a multi-time All-American Athletic Conference (AAC) award winner and Lou Groza award runner up. So far in 2020, the Pirates stand at 1-3 overall and 1-2 in AAC games. While much of the team has had some struggles to start the year, Verity is not one of them, and head coach Mike Houston said they are very happy to have him on the team. So far this season, Verity is 6-7 on field goals and 11-12 with his PATs. Already with 29 points he has been one of, if not the most consistent player on the Pirates' team, something Houston said he was impressed with.

"He did not have the training he typically would have coming into the season," Houston said. "For him to be able to perform at a high level, and he's had some issues where he has not been at full strength, but he's continuing to perform at a very, very high level so I think everyone is excited for him, proud of him, and fortunate enough to share the moment with him." So far this season, Verity is 6-7 on field goals and 11-12 with his PATs. Already with 29 points, he has been one of, if not the most consistent player on the Pirates team and that play was rewarded as he just won AAC Special Teams player of the week. If the Pirates are going to have more success this year, Verity will likely be a key piece of that going forward. - Daily Reflector

East Carolina receiver Audie Omotosho parlayed standout preseason practices into a solid performance in ECU's first football game of the season, leading the Pirates last weekend with three catches for 56 yards in a 51-28 loss to UCF. ECU offensive coordinator Donnie Kirkpatrick was asked after Wednesday's practice if that meant Omotosho will share the field more with No. 1 receiver C.J. Johnson instead of often being his lead backup and entering as Johnson concurrently exits for the sideline. "There's really three guys for the two outside positions in Audie, C.J. and Blake Proehl, and Audie can really play both sides," Kirkpatrick said. "He's the one guy we'll rotate to play to the left and he'll play to the right. We're a little banged up inside this week with Jsi (Hatfield) and we're not sure what his playing status is at this point, but it's still Wednesday so we have time. We've had to prepare to play Audie a little more inside, and Blake, and that's football and that's going to happen." - Daily Reflector
