  A group of East Carolina Athletics donors launched a new NIL collective for ECU athletes, according to an announcement on Tuesday. According to a news release, Team Boneyard Team Boneyard is collecting contributions to compensate current student-athletes for the use of their name, image and likeness. Individuals and company. Companies can capitalize on the NIL opportunity by having ECU athletes promote their businesses through media campaigns, social media campaigns, autograph signings and/or public appearances. Team Boneyard will facilitate marketing opportunities for companies and student-athletes. "College athletics is rapidly changing, and the creation of this collective on behalf of ECU athletics is critical to our continued competitiveness. This collective will provide a trusted, compliant marketplace for Pirate Nation to successfully engage with ECU student-athletes," Team Boneyard contributor Vern Davenport said. - Daily Reflector

  The East Carolina University football alumni Tyler Snead, a 5'7" and 172 pound wide receiver from Raleigh, North Carolina signed to the National Football Leagues (NFL) Pittsburgh Steelers after being invited to the Steelers rookie minicamp May 13 through May 15. Snead left ECU in his sophomore year to join the NFL draft hosted April 28 through April 30 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He finished his ECU career with 201 catches for 2,385 yards and 18 touchdowns. He also threw three touchdowns during his time with the Pirates. During the 2021 season, Snead had 855 yards and four touchdowns while in his regular position. Rookie minicamp is the first opportunity that the team's coaching staff gets to work with their draft picks that have agreed to rookie contract terms, as well as the team's group of undrafted free agent signings (UDFA). - The East Carolinian

  2021 ALL-BIG SOUTH CONFERENCE FIRST-TEAM (COCHES/MEDIA): DL - Shaundre Mims, R-Sr., Charleston Southern,...The Buck Buchanan Award finalist garnered his third-straight All-Big South First Team recognition, joining just four others in school history to be on the league's first team at least three times. He led the Bucs with 8.0 sacks, raising his career total to 20.5 to finish second in school history and as one of just two players with at least 20. The Vanceboro, North Carolina, native had a monster game at North Alabama with 2.0 sacks (for a loss of 10 yards) and 5.0 tackles for a loss of 15 yards. The performance came as part of a season-high 10 total tackles. He posted at least 1.0 sacks in six of the seven Big South games and at least 1.0 tackles for loss in nine of the 10 overall contests with a forced fumble in the opener at The Citadel. The McDonough, Ga. native became the 17th 1,000-yard rusher in program history (first since Tay Cooper in 2013) and tallied four 100-yard rushing games on the season which included a career-best 222 against Tulane, setting a single-game record for an ECU freshman running back (true or redshirt).   Owen Daffer drilled a 54-yard field goal as time expired to give East Carolina a 38-35 victory over Navy on Saturday night. Maquel Haywood scored on a 98-yard kickoff return that gave Navy (2-8, 2-5 American) a 35-27 lead with 8:33 remaining. East Carolina's Holton Ahlers answered with a 28-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Snead about three minutes later to tie it at 35. The Midshipmen punted with 1:24 to play, and Ahlers connected with Snead on a 46-yard pass on the next play. East Carolina (7-4, 5-2) then let the clock run before Daffer's game-winning kick. Ahlers was 27-of-32 passing for 405 yards and threw three touchdown passes. Keaton Mitchell carried the ball 18 times for 94 yards and had a 10-yard touchdown run for the Pirates. Daffer went 3-for-3 in field goal attempts, connecting from 24, 29 and 21 yards, and was 3-for-3 on PATs. Two of Daffer's field goals gave East Carolina a lead, while his PAT on the Pirates' touchdown in overtime provided the winning point.
