Quentin Harris ran for one touchdown and threw for another, and Duke's defense had nine sacks in a 27-17 victory over Miami on Saturday, snapping its five-game losing streak. Deon Jackson ran 2 yards for the go-ahead TD one possession before Harris threw a 49-yard scoring pass to Jalon Calhoun, helping the Blue Devils (5-7, 3-5 Atlantic Coast Conference) win a game played in a persistent downpour that made things tough on the offenses. Harris, who had an early 24-yard scoring run, was 10 of 24 for 156 yards and rushed for 49 yards for Duke - a figure skewed by six sacks. His 18-yard pass to Calhoun to the Miami 5 set up Jackson's score that made it 20-17 with 9:37 to play.

Miami replaced starting QB Jarren Williams with N'Kosi Perry for the next drive - a three-and-out that netted 1 yard - and the Blue Devils needed only four plays to take a two-score lead, with Harris hitting Calhoun down the left sideline. They stopped Miami on a fourth down at the Duke 43 with 4:32 to play, then sealed it when Trevon McSwain sacked Perry and knocked the ball loose for Koby Quansah to recover at the Miami 26 with 2:17 to play. Williams was 11 of 26 for 142 yards with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Robert Burns and Cam'Ron Harris ran 8 yards for an early touchdown for the Hurricanes (6-6, 4-4), who closed the regular season with consecutive losses. - Duke/AP College Football

Quentin Harris threw for two touchdowns and ran for another and Duke beat Virginia Tech 45-10 on Friday night. Harris hit Noah Gray with scoring passes of 16 and 1 yards for the Blue Devils (3-1, 1-0 Atlantic Coast Conference). They also scored on a 25-yard trick play on which Harris lateraled to Jalon Calhoun, who hit a wide-open Deon Jackson to make it 21-3 late in the second quarter. The Hokies (2-2, 0-2) got their only touchdown on a 72-yard connection from Ryan Willis to Damon Hazleton after they fell behind 31-3. The loss is their worst at home since a 49-12 defeat against Houston on Sept. 28, 1974, and was coach Justin Fuente's first in four games against the Blue Devils.

Harris added a 42-yard touchdown run and Jackson had a 32-yarder early in the fourth quarter, sending fans pouring out of Lane Stadium.

The Blue Devils had done little until a turnover got them going. Hendon Hooker, in his second play at quarterback for the Hokies, tried to hand the ball to Keshawn King but it never got there and the fumble that resulted turned into a 24-yard loss to the Hokies 16. On the next play, Harris hit a wide-open Gray for the touchdown. Jackson was even more open when Calhoun hit him for the third score of the quarter. After managing just 5 yards in the first quarter, Duke had 162 in the second quarter and 141 in the third. In the fourth quarter, facing a fourth-and 3 from midfield, Blue Devils punter Austin Parker took the snap, tucked it and went for 28 yards off the right side, drawing boos. - Duke/AP College Football

They scored on their last three possessions of the first half, taking the crowd completely out of the game. Duke had 162 yards in the second quarter to lead 21-3. Harris, who was missing receivers early, finished 20 for 27 for 163 yards and ran for 100 yards on 17 carries. - AP College Football

Quentin Harris threw for 237 yards and four touchdowns and also ran for 107 yards as the Duke Blue Devils scored 34 straight points in beating Middle Tennessee 41-18 Saturday night. Duke coach David Cutcliffe came out gambling early and often against his old friend, Middle Tennessee coach Rick Stockstill. The Blue Devils (2-1) recovered their own onside kick after scoring a TD on their first drive, then Harris hit a 27-yard pass on fourth-and-3 as they scored on four of their first five possessions and led 31-3 at halftime. "I thought it had a chance of building momentum," Cutcliffe said of the onside kick. "And when you steal a possession and then score, that really hurts the opposing team."

Harris completed his first 12 passes before finally missing Noah Gray when hurried at 6:25 of the second quarter. Harris finished 24 of 27 with a 12-yard TD pass to Jalon Calhoun, an 11-yarder to Eli Pancol and a 25-yarder to Aaron Young ruled good after review in the final seconds of the first half for a 31-3 halftime lead. He added an 18-yard TD to Young in the third. "We want to be an aggressive team and really give the fight to the other team, so I thought we did a good job of being on the offensive side of things today," said Harris, who now has thrown four TD passes in back-to-back games. The Blue Devils outgained Middle Tennessee (1-2) 463-339 in total offense. Chris Rumph had two of Duke's six sacks. - Duke/AP College Football

Quentin Harris waited four years for his chance to be Duke's leader. He's taking advantage of it with the help of some rookies. Harris passed for a career-high 345 yards and four touchdowns, three to freshmen, to lead Duke past North Carolina A&T 45-13 on Saturday night. Harris also rushed for 83 yards and a score as the Blue Devils (1-1) overcame a sluggish start to win their home opener for the eighth consecutive season. "Whenever you get a chance to play well in a game setting, it's a good confidence boost," Harris said. "I think it shows you what our offense is capable of when we're playing to the best of our abilities."

Duke scored three touchdowns in the final 3:10 of the first half, turning a 10-7 deficit into a 28-10 lead. Harris had scoring strikes of 22 yards and 39 yards to Mateo Durant and Eli Pancol, respectively, and capped the spurt with a 6-yard touchdown run on a quarterback draw. Jalon Calhoun had eight catches for 105 yards and two touchdowns for the Blue Devils. Calhoun and Pancol are freshmen who have quickly established a rapport with Harris, a fifth-year senior who was a backup behind NFL first-round draft pick Daniel Jones until this season. "It's becoming more and more his team," Duke coach David Cutcliffe said. "They trust him, and he trusts them." Jeremiah Martin rushed for 82 yards, including a 66-yard touchdown, for N.C. A&T (1-1). Noel Ruiz made field goals of 40 and 36 yards for the Aggies. - AP College Football

Cornerback Mark Gilbert, a Fayetteville native who only played in two games last season because of a hip injury, underwent a second surgery during the offseason, Cutcliffe said Friday. Gilbert suffered a dislocated left hip against Northwestern and first had surgery in September. His status for fall camp was unclear before undergoing the second surgery, and Cutcliffe wouldn't say Friday when Gilbert, a first-team All-ACC selection in 2017, might be able to return. "We don't know long-term outcomes to this point," Cutcliffe said. - News Observer
