  2025 PIONEER FOOTBALL LEAGUE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Sean Allison, Drake,...Allison, from Hinsdale, Illinois, becomes the sixth Drake athlete to claim the league's Defensive Player of the Year honor. He finished the season with 126 total tackles, 8.0 tackles for loss, and two interceptions. Allison led the league and ranked among the FCS Top 12 in both total tackles per game (10.5, 7th in the FCS) and solo tackles per game (5.17, 12th). He led a Drake defense that held PFL opponents to 11.0 points per game and 287.6 yards per game, ranking first and second in the league.   2025 PIONEER FOOTBALL LEAGUE OFFENSIVE FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Nick Herman, Drake,...Chicago-native Herman was the PFL's leading rusher as a freshman, finishing the season with 1,014 rushing yards on 144 carries with six rushing touchdowns and adding 120 receiving yards on 13 receptions. He led the league and ranked fourth in the FCS with 7.04 yards per carry and was 23rd in the FCS with his 84.5 rushing yards per game, which also led the PFL. He finished the game with 253 yards on 27 carries for only the second 200-yard rushing performance in the PFL this season.   WEEK 12 PIONEER FOOTBALL LEAGUE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Sean Allison, Drake (Senior, Linebacker, Hinsdale, Illinois),...Allison intercepted two passes and has 12 tackles (eight solo) to lead a Drake defensive effort that held Dayton off the scoreboard until under nine minutes remaining in the game en route to a 14-6 victory on the road. Allison's first interception came in the end zone late in the first quarter to deny Dayton what proved to be a pivotal scoring opportunity. Allison's second interception, which included a 16-yard return, came on Dayton's first drive of the second half, stopping a drive that had reached midfield. He then had a pass breakup on a 4th-and-12 opportunity on the Drake 15-yard line, forcing a key turnover on downs.   WEEK 13 FCS NATIONAL FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK: Nick Herman, Drake, RB, Fr., 5-11, 190,...Herman rushed for 258 yards - the most by a Drake player since 2003 - in leading the Bulldogs (8-3) past Morehead State 17-10 for their third straight outright Pioneer Football League title. The biggest of his 27 carries was a 77-yard touchdown run with 3:05 remaining to extend Drake's lead to 17-7. He's 40 rushing yards shy of 1,000 as the Bulldogs enter the FCS playoffs.   Nick Herman ran for 253 yards, including a late 77-yard touchdown, and Drake won the Pioneer Football League and an FCS playoff berth with a 17-10 win over Morehead State on Saturday. Quarterback Logan Inagawa had an 8-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter as the Bulldogs (8-3, 7-1) scored on back-to-back possessions to secure the win. Isaac Stopke scored on a 42 yard burst up the middle to put the Eagles (6-6, 4-4) on top in the first quarter. Stopke finished with 130 yards rushing. Inagawa's touchdown capped a 14-play, 90-yard drive and Herman scored on the first snap after Morehead State missed a field goal that would have tied the game with 3:19 remaining. The Eagles kicked a field goal with 22 seconds left but couldn't convert an onside kick. It's the third straight title for Drake. - AP College Football

  Nick Herman ran for a career-high 153 yards including a touchdown and Drake clinched at least a share of the Pioneer Football League championship, defeating Dayton 14-6 on Saturday. The Bulldogs (7-3, 6-1) bounced back from their only PFL defeat, a 20-13 setback at home against St. Thomas-Minnesota on Nov. 8. The Bulldogs have won three consecutive PFL titles and 24 of their past 26 league games. Drake scored first-half touchdowns on a 1-yard plunge by Logan Inagawa and a 66-yard dash by Herman in which the freshman broke a couple of tackles before outracing the defense to the end zone. Herman's previous high for rushing yards was 134 against Davidson in a 45-0 victory last month.

Dayton (6-4, 4-3) was shut out until the middle of the fourth quarter when Liam Poronsky and Michael Mussari connected for a 23-yard touchdown pass. The Flyers failed to drive inside the Drake 40 on their remaining two possessions. Drake had 248 yards rushing and Inagawa, a freshman quarterback, attempted only 12 passes, completing seven for 59 yards. Dayton passers went 17-for-37 for 197 yards and threw two interceptions, both of which were picked off by linebacker Sean Allison, who also contributed 12 tackles. The Flyers have lost three of their last four games after ripping off five straight victories earlier in the season. Drake can win the PFL outright with a win at home over Morehead State on Saturday. - AP College Football

  Logan Inagawa threw for 244 yards and a touchdown and Drake remained unbeaten in the Pioneer Football League by beating Butler 24-19 on Saturday. Drake's Isaiah Bragg returned the opening kickoff 32 yards to the Drake 34. On the first play from scrimmage, Nick Herman took the handoff and ran 66 yards to the end zone for a 7-0 Drake (6-2, 5-0) lead. Butler (5-4, 3-2) tied it on its second drive when Reagan Andrew connected with Archie Cox deep for a 54-yard touchdown pass midway through the first quarter.

With 2:35 before halftime, Inagawa led an 11-play, 85-yard drive that took 6:11 to put Drake back out front 14-7. Butler took the opening kickoff to the second half and traveled 75 yards in nine plays and scored when Andrew threw a 3-yard touchdown to Chet Yardley. Drake blocked the extra-point attempt to maintain a 14-13 lead. Drake extended its lead to 17-13 on a 51-yard field goal by Harry Balke on the following drive and sealed it early in the fourth when Luke Woodson crashed in from the 1. Andrew scored the final points of the contest when he ran it in from the 3 with 3:38 left. He threw for 191 yards, two touchdowns and was intercepted once. - AP College Football

  Logan Inagawa accounted for three touchdowns, Taj Hughes had 106 yards receiving and a TD on seven receptions and Drake beat Marist 31-17 on Saturday. Jackson Voth returned a punt 46 yards to the 4 and two plays later Luke Woodson ran 4 yards for a TD that gave Drake (5-2, 4-0 Pioneer Football League) the lead for good at 24-17 with 4:59 left in the third quarter. Inagawa was 10-of-13 passing for 163 yards and two touchdowns and added 81 yards rushing, which included a 8-yard TD, on 17 carries. Tristan Shannon had 58 yards rushing and scored on runs of 1 and 5 yards for Marist (3-5, 1-3).   Jackson Voth caught two touchdown passes, Nick Herman, Jaden Meizinger, and Hank Foley each recorded a rushing touchdown, and Drake beat Davidson 45-0 on Saturday. Drake (4-2, 3-0 Pioneer Football League) took a 21-0 lead in the first quarter. Herman broke free for a 24-yard score and Foley found the end zone on a jet sweep play. Quarterback Logan Inagawa found Taj Hughes for a 2-yard TD. Inagawa went 16 for 22, with 186 yards and three touchdowns. Herman rushed for 134 yards on 14 carries. Voth scored on a 5-yard reception and a 29-yard pass up the sideline. Meizinger capped the scoring in the fourth with a 6-yard rush. He finished with 98 yards on 13 carries. Coulter Cleland completed 22 of 41 passes for 252 yards for Davidson (1-6, 0-3), with 12 catches and 148 yards by Ivan Hoyt. - AP College Football

It was the longest walk-off field goal in the FCS since 2022. Balke, a San Diego native who was making a homecoming, also kicked a 43-yard field goal to open the fourth quarter, finishing with seven points.   Harry Balke's career-best 55-yard field goal as time expired sent Drake past San Diego 19-16 on Saturday. A senior transfer from NAIA Benedictine College (Kansas), Balke also connected from 43 yards to bring the Bulldogs (3-2, 2-0 Pioneer Football League) within three early in the third. Balke had missed the extra point on the previous scoring drive. Drake's Nick Herman rushed for 96 yards and added 35 receiving yards, and Luke Woodson added 55 yards and a score on the ground.

After Logan Inagawa's 5-yard scoring run with 4:38 remaining, San Diego ran the clock to 1:09 as Emiliano Salazar tied the game with a 41-yard field goal. Drake answered with a seven-play, 27-yard drive to the San Diego 38 to set up Balke's game-winner. The Toreros (3-4, 1-2) lost their third straight game against Drake, and lost on a walk-off field goal for the second straight year. Shane Dunning's 48-yard kick gave Drake a 30-28 victory on Sept. 28, 2024. - AP College Football
