  10/21/20 - Cam ButlerrSr/2022, Colorado State, 6-2, 236 (DS#38 FB) + More +

For a month, the only certainty in Steve Addazio's world has been uncertainty. But the new CSU football coach announced Monday afternoon that the Rams, for certain, will be without tight end Cam Butler for the rest of the fall. Addazio said the senior suffered "an unfortunate non-contact injury" but did not divulge the nature of the injury - or a timetable for Butler's potential return. "He was quite a playmaker," said Addazio, whose Rams open up an eight-game season Saturday night at Canvas Stadium against New Mexico. "So Warren (Jackson, who opted out) is down, and Cam's down. So those are two weapons that are down. So other guys have to step up. And I'm anxious to find out how that's going to roll."

Butler, a 6-foot-2, 250-pound target, missed the last five games of the 2019 season with an undisclosed injury. He'd nabbed eight receptions for 72 yards and a touchdown - the latter scored in the Rocky Mountain Showdown against the CU Buffs - in four games last fall. As a sophomore in 2018, the South Carolina native led all Rams tight ends in catches (29) while putting up 312 receiving yards in 12 appearances, 10 of them starts. He would have at least one season of collegiate eligibility remaining on his ledger after this autumn. Butler's loss is buffered some by the return of talented junior tight end Trey McBride, who had announced his intention to transfer after the Mountain West had initially decided to postpone the football season until the spring. - Denver Post

  08/25/20 - Trey McBrideSr/2022, Colorado State, 6-3, 245 (DS#1 TE) + More +

Trey McBride and Manny Jones reversed course in a way to make Colorado State football fans smile. Star tight end McBride entered the transfer portal early last week, not long after the Mountain West announced it would postpone the 2020 fall football season due to the coronavirus. Jones, a senior defensive end, entered the portal not long after. Plans changed, and now McBride and Jones are now both expected to remain Rams.

The 6-foot-4, 260-pound tight end from Fort Morgan tweeted Sunday night that he's "Proud to be a RAM!" with a letter saying that after reflection, he has decided to "follow my instincts" and "listen to my heart. My heart has always flowed with Green & Gold blood. I take tremendous pride in being a Ram & can't wait to build a championship with my teammates." McBride has two years of eligibility remaining after establishing himself as a legitimate pro prospect last season while catching 45 passes for 560 yards and four touchdowns. - Fort Collins Coloradoan

Warren Jackson's decision to forgo his final season of eligibility at Colorado State seemed to initiate a chain reaction amongst fellow Rams. Whether or not the events were indeed related, the timing of both Trey McBride and Manny Jones entering the NCAA's transfer portal certainly raised curiosity. Four days after Jackson's announcement, 247Sports.com reported McBride's intentions of departing CSU on Aug. 18 as Jones quickly followed on Aug. 20 – per a statement from NCAAF Nation's Twitter handle. It appeared the Rams would have to live without their top pass-catching tight end and most productive defensive lineman as transfers supposedly began to mount.

Hold that thought. McBride, a junior-to-be with two years of eligibility remaining, revealed via Twitter that he will stay in Fort Collins as the Mountain West Conference continues exploring the possibility of holding a 2020 spring football season. Subsequently, NCAAF Nation released a fresh report which entailed Jones' decision to wrap up his collegiate career at CSU. Jones, a Phill Steele preseason all-league first-team selection, dominated off the edge like never before in 2019 by leading the Rams in tackles for loss (eight) and finishing tied for second on the team in sacks (five). - Greeley Tribune

The Colorado State football team might be down yet another star player. Multiple reports say defensive end Manny Jones has entered the transfer portal, with 247Sports recruiting analyst Rusty Mansell confirming Jones intends to transfer. He's the third starter in a week to make a move toward leaving the Rams following the decision by the Mountain West to postpone the fall football season. Receiver Warren Jackson announced he'll skip his senior season to prepare for the 2021 NFL draft. Tight end Trey McBride has also entered the transfer portal. The 6-foot-4, 275-pound Jones was honorable mention all-Mountain West in 2019 as a junior with 54 tackles, eight tackles for loss and five sacks. In three seasons at CSU he has 123 tackles, 21.5 tackles for loss and nine sacks. - Fort Collins Coloradoan

  08/18/20 - Trey McBrideSr/2022, Colorado State, 6-3, 245 (DS#1 TE) + More +

Tight end Trey McBride has reportedly entered the NCAA's transfer portal, making it likely that Colorado State's football team will be without its top two NFL prospects whenever the Rams are able to play again. Star receiver Warren Jackson announced over the weekend that he would forego his senior season to prepare for the NFL draft. McBride has two years of eligibility remaining after establishing himself as a legitimate pro prospect last season while catching 45 passes for 560 yards and four touchdowns. The 6-foot-4, 260-pounder from Fort Morgan earned first-team All-Mountain West honors following the season. - KUSA TV9 News

Jackson will leave CSU and prepare for the 2021 NFL draft. The Mountain West has suspended fall sports and is hoping to play a spring football season. That decision finalized Jackson's choice. "Me and my dad knew if it would come to this we would leave. It wasn't a hard decision at all, honestly. I didn't really have any other choice," Jackson said. "It was, 'Alright, I'm going to take this step and it will give me time to train and prepare and work on weaknesses." Jakcson said he'll train at Landow Performance in Denver in preparation. He says he considered leaving CSU after the 2019 season but opted to stay at the time in hopes of a senior season.

Fans will rightly lament losing one last chance to see Jackson, who was named the 2020 Mountain West preseason Offensive Player of the Year after an incredible junior season. Jackson, from Mission Hills, California, was first-team All-Mountain West in 2019 after making 77 catches for 1,119 yards and eight touchdowns. The single-game highlight was his 214-yard performance against New Mexico, including an 87-yard touchdown. Jackson, who was on the Biletnikoff Award watch list, finishes with 124 catches, 1,789 yards and 14 touchdowns in three seasons at CSU. He now aims to join a growing list of CSU receivers in the NFL, which includes Gallup (Cowboys), Johnson (Vikings), Preston Williams (Dolphins) and Rashard Higgins (Browns). - Fort Collins Coloradoan

With Colorado State's football season postponed by the Mountain West, rising senior wide receiver Warren Jackson announced on Thursday his intent to forgo his final season of collegiate eligibility and begin training for a future in professional football. One of the nation's most physically gifted and imposing receivers at 6-foot-6, Jackson aims to become the next in a long line of successful Colorado State receivers now plying their trade in the National Football League.

Jackson was named the 2020 preseason Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year after a 2019 junior campaign where he was named a first-team All-Mountain West selection. The Mission Hills, Calif., native led the team with 77 catches for 1,119 yards and eight touchdowns over 10 games. His 77 catches rank fifth-best for a single season in program history while his 1,119 yards rank eighth. Against Toledo, Jackson tallied the third-most receptions in a single game with 12 and his 214 yards against New Mexico rank eighth for a single-game performance at Colorado State. - Colorado State Football
