  SEPT 23/WEEK 4 NEC CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: TYSHAUN JAMES, CENTRAL CONNECTICUT, WR, Jr., 6-3, 210 lbs., Middletown, CT/Middletown,...WEEK 4 Stats: 151 scrimmage yards, 2 total TD (1 rush, 1 rec), 2 receptions, 118 rec yards, 33 rush yards, 5 rushes,...James stacked up 151 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns during Central Connecticut's visit to FBS member Eastern Michigan. The receiver totaled 118 yards on two catches and rushed five times for 33 yards in the last-second setback. His dynamic late-game scoring play put the Blue Devils in position to snatch an upset victory.

With his team facing a 28-22 deficit, James flew past the secondary for a 68-yard touchdown reception that allowed CCSU to take a 29-28 edge with 2:05 remaining in the contest. His 10-yard touchdown run, which came on the final snap of the first quarter, gave the Blue Devils a 15-7 edge over the Eagles. The 6-foot-3 wideout accounted for a 27-yard rush and a 50-yard reception on back-to-back plays to power a fourth-quarter scoring drive that brought the Blue Devils within 28-22. The senior linebacker totaled five tackles, including 1.0 hit for a loss, and came away with a late-game interception that put CCSU on the brink of victory. Jones' first tackle dropped the ball carrier for a two-yard loss on a first down play in the first quarter. After EMU crossed midfield early in the third quarter, Jones made a key stop to bring up a 3rd-and-10 play. The outside linebacker dropped back in pass defense and snagged his first career interception with the Blue Devils protecting a 29-28 lead late in the fourth quarter. The redshirt freshman running back averaged 12.2 yards per rush attempt and logged one reception for a six-yard gain. The Empire State product registered CCSU's first touchdown of the season, capping the game-opening drive by breaking the play outside and turning upfield for a 34-yard scoring scamper.   Keonte Lucas ran for 190 yards - 160 coming on two runs in the third quarter - and Central Connecticut beat Valparaiso 42-13 on Saturday. The Crusaders narrowed their deficit to 14-13 with 5:45 left in the third quarter when Chris Duncan plunged in from a yard out. On the first play following the kickoff, Lucas ran 75 yards to score. On the ensuing drive for Valpo, Kendall Coles picked off Duncan and returned the ball 30 yards to the end zone for a 28-13 lead.

Valpo went three-and-out, which led to Lucas's 85-yard touchdown jaunt to put the game away. Lucas averaged 19 yards per carry and Central Connecticut (3-0) ran for 315 total. The Blue Devils' defense stymied Valparaiso (0-2) as Coles, Dexter Lawson Jr., Jahlil Brown, Marlon Brown Jr., and Romelo Williams all gathered interceptions against Duncan and backup Joe Mullen. Seniors J'Von Brown and Cole Phelps, along with junior Connor Mignone return to anchor a unit that piled up over 432 yards per game last season to rank 29th among FCS squads.

The veteran unit also ranked seventh nationally in sacks allowed. Mignone and Brown were both All-NEC First Team picks last season, while Phelps was on the Second Team.
