  James Murphy passed for 347 yards and a touchdown, Matt Childs had two touchdown runs and Brown rallied to beat Bryant 29-19 on Friday night. Bryant took a 12-0 lead into halftime on Elijah Elliott's 14-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and his 1-yard scoring plunge in the second. Brown's defense forced a three-and-out to begin the third quarter and Murphy fired a 47-yard scoring strike to Trevor Foley five plays later to get the Bears within 12-7. Brown again forced a three-and-out and turned it into a 1-yard touchdown run by Childs. Will Currid passed to Levi Linowes for the two-point conversion and a 15-12 lead with 6:07 left in the quarter.

Murphy hit Najih Rahman for an 18-yard gain on third-and-11 to keep the drive alive and connected with Linowes for a 21-yard gain to set up Childs' score. The Bulldogs answered with Jaden Keefner's 16-yard touchdown pass to Aldrich Doe with 2:23 left to take a 19-15 lead into the fourth quarter. Murphy connected with Michael Nesbit for a 36-yard gain to the 2-yard line and Childs ran it in two plays later to put the Bears up 22-19 with 8:59 remaining. Quentin Brown scored on a 26-yard run to cap the scoring with 4:21 left. Murphy completed 29 of 44 passes with an interception for Brown (3-1). Childs carried 21 times for 92 yards. Keefner totaled 162 yards on 16-for-27 passing for Bryant (2-5). Elliott rushed 21 times for 117 yards. Bryant had 218 yards of offense in the first half to Brown's 92.   OCT 6 IVY LEAGUE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Elias Archie, Brown,...Archie had a hand in three of Brown's four takeaways in the Bears' first Governor's Cup victory since 2017. On the opening drive of the game, Archie picked off a pass and returned it 13 yards to the 10-yard line, which set up a Brown touchdown two plays later for the early 7-0 lead less than two minutes into the game. Early in the third quarter, Archie forced a URI fumble at the one-yard line, which rolled through the end zone for a touchback, taking what would have been a touchdown off the board and preserving Brown's seven-point lead at the time. The Bears then went back up the field and stuck the ball in the end zone to push their lead to 28-14.

Early in the fourth quarter, Archie jumped on top of a fumble near midfield for another key takeaway that killed a Rhody drive. In total, he finished the night with 4.0 tackles, one fumble recovery, one forced fumble and one interception. The victory was Brown's first win over a ranked opponent since 2009 when it defeated No. 19/20 Holy Cross in 2009, and the first win over a top 10 opponent since 1981, when it defeated No. 10 URI in the first-ever Governor's Cup battle. - Brown Football

  WEEK 6 FCS NATIONAL TEAM OF THE WEEK: Brown (28-21 win over then-No. 8 Rhode Island),...The Bears, picked last in the Ivy League's preseason poll, ended a six-game losing streak against CAA Football preseason favorite Rhode Island while posting their first ranked win since 2009 (Holy Cross) and first Top 10 win since 1981 (URI). Coach James Perry's 2-1 squad forced four turnovers, including defensive back Elias Archie with an interception, a forced fumble right outside the Brown goal line and a fumble recovery. James Murphy passed for two touchdowns and Matt Childs rushed for a pair. Honorable Mention: Montana State (34-10 win at Northern Arizona); Stephen F.   James Murphy threw two touchdown passes, Matt Childs ran for two scores and Miles Brophy picked off a pass with 37 seconds left as Brown upset Rhode Island 28-21 in the Governor's Cup on Friday night. The Rams, ranked 10th in the FCS coaches poll, were facing third-and-10 from midfield when Brophy picked off Devin Farrell. Childs had two short touchdown runs in the first half to help Brown take a 21-14 lead. In between, Murphy hit Ty Pezza for an 18-yard score.

Murphy was 20-of-27 passing for 201 yards. His 8-yard scoring connection with Solomon Miller made it 28-14 late in the third quarter. Childs finished with 64 yards on 22 carries. Pezza had 93 yards on six receptions. Elias Archie had five tackles with an interception and a fumble recovery to lead the defense. Farrell threw three touchdown passing, going 30 of 44 for 353 yards and was intercepted twice. The Rams also lost two fumbles. Farrell had scoring tosses to Marquis Buchanan covering 6 yards and a 30-yarder to Omari Walker in the first half. He capped an 80-yard drive with a 2-yard toss to Matt Smith with 4:11 remaining in the game. It was the 109th meeting between the schools with Brown (2-1) leading 74-33-2.   SEPT 22 IVY LEAGUE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Tommy Dunn, Brown,...Dunn recorded 3.0 tackles - all of them sacks - totaling 29 yards, forced one fumble and added three QB hurries. His first sack came early in the second quarter with Brown up 14-0, which helped force a punt. His second sack came in the third quarter on a fourth down play inside the red zone, which went for a 10-yard loss and resulted in a turnover on downs to preserve the shutout. His final sack came on the final play of the third quarter when he strip-sacked the quarterback for a 12-yard loss, with Brown falling on the fumble for one of its four takeaways in the game. The win was the highest scoring opening game shutout in the 100-year history of Brown Stadium, in addition to Brown's largest margin of victory and first shutout since the 2013 season. It is also the largest margin of victory in a season opener since Brown defeated New Hampshire 56-0 at Andrews Field in 1911. - Brown football

  Qwentin Brown ran for two touchdowns, James Murphy threw for two, and Brown rolled over Georgetown 46-0 on Saturday in the season opener for the Bears. The Bears got the 100th season of football at Brown Stadium off to a great start, with three first-half takeaways by the defense. Qwentin Brown scored on a short run in the first quarter and his 49-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter made it 32-0 going into halftime. Murphy connected with Matt Childs with a 4-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter and connected with Levi Linowes for a 42-yard touchdown in the third quarter. Georgetown (2-2) was held to 183 total yards and 11 first downs.

Murphy completed 20 of 28 passes for 218 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. The Bears added 168 yards rushing, led by Qwentin Brown with 69 yards on nine carries. Brown improved to 61-36-3 in home openers at Brown Stadium. Brown is 7-1 all-time against the Hoyas, including 4-0 at Brown Stadium. Brown honored the 2005 football team that won one of the Bears' four all-time Ivy League championships. - AP College Football

  Backup quarterback Aidan Gilman threw two touchdown passes, including the go-ahead score late in the fourth quarter, and Brown defeated Pennsylvania 34-31 on Saturday. Gilman, who entered the game when Jake Willcox left with an undisclosed injury in the first half, completed 22 of 38 passes for 245 yards. His 9-yard touchdown pass to Allen Smith with 1:19 remaining put the Bears up for good. After trailing 24-7 at halftime, Penn tied the score with 17 unanswered points in the third quarter.

Aidan Sayin passed to Joshua Casilli for an 11-yard touchdown, a botched punt attempt by Brown led to a 29-yard field goal, and Jonathan Mulatu rumbled 58 yards for the tying touchdown. Brown responded with a short field goal, then Jonathan Mulatu put Penn ahead 31-27 with a 12-yard scoring run with just over six minutes remaining in the game. Mulatu finished with 154 yards rushing on 21 carries. Sayin was 29-of-51 passing for 227 yards with a touchdown and an interception.   Jake Willcox threw two touchdown passes, the Brown defense made a huge stop inside the 10 in the final minute, and the Bears defeated Central Connecticut 27-20 on Saturday. Central Connecticut's Shon Mitchell hit Nasir Smith with a 21-yard touchdown pass to draw the Blue Devils within 27-20 with 7:12 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Blue Devils had one more possession and drove deep inside Brown territory. On fourth-and-3 from the 6-yard line, Mitchell threw a complete pass to Kyren Petteway, but Brown's Isaiah Reed made the stop one yard short of the first down with 58 seconds to go.

Willcox threw first-half touchdown passes of 60 yards to Hayes Sutton and 29 yards to Samuel Baddoo and Brown (2-2) built a 21-6 lead in the second quarter. Central Connecticut's Smith bolted 85 yards for a touchdown to close the gap to 21-13 by halftime. Willcox finished 17-of-31 passing for 249 yards and Sutton had four receptions for 103 yards. Christopher Maron kicked two field goals for the Bears' only points of the second half. Mitchell completed 22 of 45 passes for 241 yards with two touchdowns for the Blue Devils (0-6).   Allen Smith scored the winning touchdown in the second overtime, Jake Willcox threw three touchdown passes and Brown, which trailed by 14 points in the fourth quarter, defeated Bryant 44-38 on Saturday. Brown's thrilling season-opener was capped off after the Bears stuffed Ryan Clark on a fourth-and-1 attempt to open the second overtime. The Bears took possession, needing any score to win. Willcox scrambled for 23 yards on a third-and-long play, then Smith scored on a 4-yard run on second down.

Bryant (0-3) led 24-10 after three quarters before Willcox hit Hayes Sutton with a 40-yard scoring pass early in the fourth. A few minutes later, Willcox connected with Graham Walker on a 30-yard TD play, but the Bears trailed 24-23 after missing the PAT. Clark's 1-yard run gave Bryant a 31-23 lead with 2:35 remaining, then Smith's 1-yard run and a two-point conversion tied it with 38 seconds remaining in regulation. - AP College Football
