  11/26/21 - Matt McDonaldrSr/2023, Bowling Green, 6-2, 211 (DS#40 QB) + More +

Matt McDonald completed 24 of 37 passes for 255 yards and a touchdown and Bowling Green beat Ohio 21-10 on Friday in the season finale for both teams. The Bobcats beat Bowling Green 52-10 last season. On fourth-and-goal from the 1, Bowling Green's Nick Mosley was dropped in the backfield by Bryce Houston but, after a false start by the Bobcats, Blaine Spires and Karl Brooks stopped Armani Rogers in the end zone to give the Falcons a 15-10 lead with 12:55 to play.

Nate Needham, who missed from 43 yards in the second quarter, made field goals of 23 and 43 yards before his 40-yarder capped a 13-play, 51-yard drive to make it 18-10 with 7:03 left. He added a 39-yard field goal to cap the scoring with 1:17 to play. Rogers, who finished with three carries for minus-4 yards, took a snap from the shotgun and plowed into the end zone from 1-yard out early in the second quarter and Steven Johnson kicked a 22-yard field goal to give Ohio (3-9, 3-5 Mid-American Conference) a 10-3 lead with 8:47 left in the first half. The Falcons (4-8, 2-6) responded with an 11-play, 70-yard drive that culminated when McDonald threw a 14-yard pass TD to Austin Osborne that made it 10-all at halftime. - Bowling Green/AP College Football

Connor Bazelak threw a 2-point conversion pass to Daniel Parker Jr. to lift Missouri to a 24-23 overtime victory over Florida on Saturday. The Tigers (6-5, 3-4 Southeastern Conference) drew within a point on Tyler Badie's 13-yard touchdown run, and Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz elected to go for 2 rather than send the game to a second overtime with a PAT kick. Parker, a tight end, slipped undetected into the left side of the end zone and caught the lobbed pass. Badie rushed 27 times for 146 yards. Bazelak completed 15 of 26 passes for 165 yards and a touchdown. Florida (5-6, 2-6 SEC) got the ball first in overtime, and Emory Jones caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from wide receiver Trent Whittemore on a trick play to give the Gators a brief lead. Jones completed 20 of 32 passes for 261 yards and a touchdown.

Missouri entered the game with the nation's 118th-ranked defense, and Florida had yielded 92 points in its last two games. No matter - the defenses dominated in a stingy battle of field position and field goals. Missouri led 9-6 at halftime on three Harrison Mevis field goals. Florida finally broke the touchdown drought on its first drive of the second half. Jones hit Jacob Copeland on a 49-yard pass to set up a Dameon Pierce 2-yard scoring run. Missouri answered early in the fourth quarter when Bazelak connected with tight end Niko Hea on a 41-yard touchdown pass. Missouri missed a chance to take the lead with 1:04 left in regulation when Mevis - who had made 17 of 18 field-goal attempts this season - pushed a 46-yarder wide right. Florida coach Dan Mullen elected to run out the clock and take his chances in overtime rather than throw the ball. - Missouri/AP College Football

  10/30/21 - Matt McDonaldrSr/2023, Bowling Green, 6-2, 211 (DS#40 QB) + More +

Matt McDonald threw for 263 yards and a career-best four touchdowns - three in the first half - ran 47 yards for the capper with under a minute to play and Bowling Green survived the ejection of head coach Scot Loeffler to upend Buffalo 56-44 on Saturday. McDonald entered the game with six touchdown passes on the season. The teams combined for 49 points in the fourth quarter alone, matching score for score, and Buffalo rallied with 34 points after halftime. The teams amassed 983 yards of total offense. The Falcons (3-6, 1-4 Mid-American Conference) ended a four-game skid. McDonald's run for the final touchdown appeared to be set up as a kneel-down when he saw a gap and bolted out of the pocket.

McDonald completed eight of his first 11 passes with two touchdowns to Christian Sims, for 81 and 6 yards - and a third to Tyrone Broden. Broden had two TD catches and 110 yards receiving while Sims made five catches for 103 yards. Terion Stewart rushed for 170 yards and two second-half touchdowns as Bowling Green gained 221 yards on the ground. Loeffler was ejected in the third quarter after being flagged for two unsportsmanlike conduct calls on back-to-back drives. He became the first head coach ejected since a rules change in 2016. In 18 minutes after his ejection, Bowling Green scored more points than in any full game over the last two seasons. Buffalo backup quarterback Matt Myers was 12-of-24 passing for 239 yards with a touchdown pass, and he ran for two more after starter Kyle Vantrease left after a sack. - Bowling Green/AP College Football

  09/25/21 - Matt McDonaldrSr/2023, Bowling Green, 6-2, 211 (DS#40 QB) + More +

Quarterback Matt McDonald ran for a pair of scores, and two late interceptions by the Bowling Green defense sealed the win as the Falcons shocked heavily-favored Minnesota, 14-10, on homecoming Saturday. The loss snapped Minnesota's streak of 21 straight non-conference wins, the longest streak in the country entering Saturday's game. The Gophers' last non-conference loss was Sept. 3, 2015 against TCU. It also marked Minnesota's first loss to a non-Power 5 conference opponent since losing to North Dakota State on Sept. 24, 2011. "Give Bowling Green a lot of credit," said Gophers head coach P.J. Fleck. "I know how excited they are, and they deserve it and they earned it. We did not deserve to win that football game whatsoever." Bowling Green came to Minneapolis as 31-point underdogs but used a strong defensive effort to slow down the Golden Gopher offense.

Minnesota's fans booed their team at numerous points in the game, while Falcons players jumped on the field in celebration after the upset was complete. "I couldn't be more happy for a group of kids that have really been through a lot," said Bowling Green head coach Scott Loeffler. "We've got the 24-hour rule. We're going to celebrate for 24 hours, and then we're going to get back to the office." The Gophers had the ball with a chance to take the lead late in the fourth quarter after Bowling Green failed to fall on a muffed punt by Minnesota's Trey Potts. But one play after recovering the fumble, quarterback Tanner Morgan lofted a deep interception into the hands of Devin Taylor with 2:13 remaining. Morgan threw another pick with 17 seconds remaining. The Gophers' passing game struggled all day against the Falcons. Morgan was just 5-of-13 for 59 yards. - Bowling Green/AP College Football
