Tank Bigsby and Jarquez Hunter combined for 229 rushing yards and four total touchdowns as Auburn defeated Western Kentucky 41-17 on Saturday afternoon. After Western Kentucky generated 290 yards and 17 points in the first half, Auburn's defense held the pass-happy Hilltoppers to 105 yards and allowed zero points after halftime. Bigsby and Hunter both scored long rushing touchdowns, and D.J. James returned an interception 25 yards to cap 24 unanswered points for the Tigers in the second half.

Auburn (5-6, 2-5 Southeastern Conference) has now won back-to-back games under interim head coach Carnell Williams as it heads into its annual Iron Bowl matchup with rival Alabama. Western Kentucky (7-5, 5-2 Conference USA), which has won four games against SEC opponents since 2012, was unable to carry a strong second quarter of offense into the second half. Hilltoppers quarterback Austin Reed had 290 passing yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in the loss. - Auburn/AP College Football

NOV 14 SEC CO-DEFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE WEEK: Colby Wooden, DL, Auburn,...Wreaked havoc on the Texas A&M offensive line, ultimately helping seal the game with a strip sack with less than six minutes left that gave Auburn the ball at the Texas A&M 32-yard line and led to the field goal with 3:02 that proved to be the difference. The sack was his sixth of the season and marked his 11th TFL. The forced fumble was his third of the season. Applied a game-high three QB pressures. Was on the field for all but two snaps as Auburn hold its opponent to less than 100 yards rushing for the second straight game and to just 215 total yards. The 10 points and 215 total yards allowed were season bests for the Tigers. - SEC Football

Jarquez Hunter and Tank Bigsby each rushed for 121 yards and Auburn held on for a 13-10 victory over Texas A&M Saturday night, in a battle of teams tied for last in their division. Colby Wooden's fourth-quarter strip-sack set up the decisive field goal by freshman Alex McPherson for the Tigers (4-6, 2-5 Southeastern Conference), who got their first win in two tries under interim coach Carnell Williams. Auburn and the Aggies (3-7, 1-6) had been bringing up the rear in the Western Division and both had lost five straight. The offensive woes continued, especially for Texas A&M - until the final drive. Freshman Conner Weigman and tailback Amari Daniels quickly moved the Aggies down the field. Weigman completed a 17-yard touchdown pass to Jalen Preston with 1:33 left and Daniels had a 27-yard run. But Auburn recovered the onside kick and ran out the clock to end its losing streak, which had been the final straw in coach Bryan Harsin's tenure. Before that drive, Texas A&M had just 5 total yards in the second half. The Aggies finished with 215 yards and were without leading rusher Devon Achane, who was wearing a boot on his left foot.

McPherson, who made his first career start in place of an injured Anders Carlson, made a 26-yarder with 3:02 left. Quarterback Robby Ashford led a celebration with fans afterward and players emptied a cooler of sports drink on Williams. Weigman, a five-star recruit, made his second start in three games but couldn't duplicate his 338-yard, four-touchdown performance against Mississippi. He was 14-of-36 passing for 121 yards and had 13 consecutive incompletions in the second half. Weigman missed the Florida game with an illness. Ashford only passed for 60 yards and one touchdown, while throwing two interceptions. He ran for 47 yards. - Auburn/AP College Football

Elijah Metcalf caught eight passes for 84 yards for Middle Tennessee (5-5, 2-4 Conference USA). The Blue Raiders won for just the second time since a road win over then-No. 25 Miami on Sept. 24.   Payton Thorne threw for 256 yards and two touchdowns and Ben Patton hit two fourth-quarter field goals to lift Michigan State to a 27-21 victory Saturday over Rutgers and keep the Spartans' bowl hopes alive. The Spartans built a 21-7 lead early in the third quarter on Thorne's 25-yard touchdown pass to Jayden Reed. The Scarlet Knights (4-6, 1-6) pulled within 21-14 when tight end Johnny Langan plowed up the middle on a one-yard touchdown run late in the quarter. It was the first time in the last three games that Rutgers had scored any points in the second half. Rutgers had a chance to cut the margin in the final quarter but Jacob Slade blocked Jude McAtamney's 39-yard field goal attempt and cornerback Ameer Speed picked up the ball and returned it to the Michigan State 44. Seven plays later, Ben Patton made a 34-yard field goal to give the Spartans a 10-point lead with 6:28 to play. He later added a 48-yard kick.

Gavin Wimsatt was able to bring Rutgers within six points with a 31-yard touchdown pass to Shameen Jones on a fourth and 29 play with 47 seconds left. The Scarlet Knights attempted an onside kick, but it was fielded by the Spartans who ran out the clock. Despite totaling 283 yards of offense and allowing Rutgers to cross midfield only twice in the first half, Michigan State could not pull away from the Scarlet Knights. The Spartans opened the scoring in the first quarter when Thorne hit Daniel Barker on a 26-yard touchdown pass. The Scarlet Knights evened it late in the second quarter as Wimsatt capped a 96-yard drive with an 18-yard touchdown throw to Aaron Young. Jalen Berger put Michigan State back on top 14-7 on the following possession with a two-yard run up the middle. The play was set up following a pass interference penalty in the end zone on Avery Young, giving the Spartans the ball at the Rutgers' 2. - Michigan State/AP College Football

  11/08/22 - Austin TroxellrSr/2023, Auburn, 6-6, 309 (DS#999 OT) + More +

Auburn right tackle Austin Troxell is out for the season with a knee injury. Interim coach Carnell Williams said Troxell was scheduled to have surgery on Monday for an injury sustained in Saturday's overtime loss to Mississippi State. The sixth-year senior played in 40 games in his Auburn career. "I have a very soft spot for guys who get injured because my career was full of them," said Williams, a former Auburn and NFL running back. "I feel for that young man because he has given a lot to this program. "Man, he's an Auburn man through and through. I'm proud of that young man. I personally hurt for him. I know how he feels, but that young man, he's going to be OK." Brenden Coffey is listed as the starter at right tackle for Saturday night's game against Texas A&M. - AP College Football

  11/05/22 - Payton ThornerSr/2025, Auburn, 6-2, 207 (DS#27 QB) + More +

Payton Thorne didn't mince words about the negative cloud that hovered above Michigan State's football program this week. The Spartans quarterback said in the days leading to Saturday's game at No. 14 Illinois that "we're all we got" and "no one is coming to save us" after an embarrassing loss to rival Michigan and an uglier post-game fight which prompted suspensions for eight Michigan State players. Yet, Michigan State fought through it all for perhaps its biggest win of the season as Thorne threw for 182 yards and two touchdowns in a 23-15 victory over the Illini (7=2, 4-2 Big Ten). "I remember my dad telling me, 'There's a lot of opportunity in adversity,'" Thorne said. "Obviously, it was a pretty adverse situation this week. We definitely had some things happen to us that you wouldn't normally wish to happen, but we came out here and we played with the guys we had and the coaches we had and we played our butts off." The Spartans (4-5, 2-4) stopped the Illini five times on fourth down to end a three-game losing streak.

Despite the absences, the Spartans hung tough on the road against a ranked opponent - and threw a little chaos in the Big Ten West race. Spartans wideout Jayden Reed got loose for a 16-yard touchdown reception for a 23-7 lead with 2:57 to go and the defense did enough to halt a late comeback effort. Quarterback Tommy DeVito and the Illini (7-2, 4-2 Big Ten) stalled at the Spartans' 25 when time expired. The win keeps Michigan State's bowl hopes alive with three games left, including home matchups against Big Ten East stragglers Rutgers and Indiana. Illinois carries a one-game Big Ten West lead with Purdue coming to town next week. Saturday also marked third-year coach Mel Tucker's fourth road win over a ranked Big Ten opponent. - Michigan State/AP College Football

  10/31/22 - *Colby WoodenJr/2023, Auburn, 6-4, 278 (DS#16 DE) + More +

Auburn fired coach Bryan Harsin on Monday after less than two seasons, ending a rocky tenure in which the Tigers struggled to compete in the Southeastern Conference. Harsin went 9-12 overall and 3-5 this year. Auburn has lost four straight games while struggling against Power Five opponents, including a 41-27 loss to Arkansas on Oct. 29. Auburn will owe Harsin 70% of his remaining contract - more than $15 million - and half of that must be paid within 30 days. "President (Chris) Roberts made the decision after a thorough review and evaluation of all aspects of the football program," the school said in a brief statement announcing the move. "Auburn will begin an immediate search for a coach that will return the Auburn program to a place where it is consistently competing at the highest levels and representing the winning tradition that is Auburn football," the statement said.

Auburn canceled its weekly football football news conference about 90 minutes before Harsin was scheduled to speak. Harsin was hired away from Boise State in December 2020 and Auburn gave him a six-year, $31.5 million deal. He never came close to replicating his past success and failed to keep up with rivals Georgia and Alabama on the field or on the recruiting trail. Those results were unacceptable to a program that won a national title in 2010 and is accustomed to contending for SEC championships. The Tigers struggled throughout the season, with the normally reliable defense giving up 40-plus points three times while the offensive issues never resolved. The biggest struggles came in the second half, when Auburn failed to score a touchdown against both Missouri and LSU. - AP College Football
