  05/20/22 - Morris Joseph Jr.rSr/2023, Auburn, 6-1, 280 (DS#88 DT) + More +

Auburn football has once again dipped into the transfer portal, as former Memphis defensive lineman Morris Joseph announced Wednesday evening that he is coming to the Plains. Joseph becomes the third transfer portal player in recent weeks - along with former Miami receiver Dazalin Worsham and former Iowa State safety Craig McDonald - to commit to the Tigers. Joseph officially visited Auburn this past week. He had also visited Arkansas on May 9, per his Twitter account. After entering the portal on March 1, Joseph had initially committed to Georgia Tech on March 24. He joins a unit that will have 16 linemen roster come fall.

The Tigers have made some other notable additions at defensive line under Harsin, signing both Jeffrey M'ba - the highest-rated JUCO recruit in the 2022 class - and former Oregon lineman Jayson Jones. A three-star recruit out of high school, Joseph began his career at Texas-San Antonio before transferring to Iowa Western Community College. He spent a year with the Reivers before joining Memphis. In three years at Memphis, Joseph logged 117 career tackles, 14 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks. In 2020, Morris logged career highs in tackles (52), tackles for loss (10.5) and sacks (7). - Opelika-Auburn News

Auburn defensive coordinator Jeff Schmedding expressed confidence that linebacker Owen Pappoe and defensive back Zion Puckett will be ready to participate when the Tigers reconvene on the Plains in two weeks for workouts. Pappoe and Puckett will start prep unencumbered for the season-opener against Mercer on September 3rd at Jordan-Hare. Pappoe struggled with an injury he suffered against Penn State last season. He had 23 tackles in 5 games during the 6-7 2021 season. He also didn't participate in contact drills during spring football. - Birmingham News

  05/03/22 - Marquis RobinsonrSo/2026, Auburn, 6-3, 310 (DS#999 DT) + More +

Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin confirmed on Tuesday during an alumni event in Atlanta that Redshirt Freshman Defensive Tackle Marquis Robinson would return to the program after entering the transfer portal in late January before spring football. "I'm excited about where he's at in life," Harsin told the reporters on-site. "I like where he is personally and how he's handled things. The football piece will come. We're excited to get him going again. We enjoy having him on the team." Robinson was a four-star recruit from the 2022 class and played in one game against Georgia last season for the Tigers and recorded a tackle for loss. The defensive line is where the Tigers lost lots of talent via graduation and the transfer portal, which adds importance to Robinson's return. - Birmingham News

  04/22/22 - *Tank BigsbyJr/2023, Auburn, 6-0, 215 (DS#8 RB) + More +

Buzz surrounded Auburn's Tank Bigsby all spring. The running back is coming off his first 1,000-yard rushing season on the Plains, and he's expected to be the main cog in Auburn's offense this fall. Running backs coach Cadillac Williams is looking for "big things" from the junior. Offensive coordinator Eric Kiesau sees Bigsby being at the "forefront" of the offense, and Bryan Harsin echoed those thoughts earlier in the spring. With all that, Bigsby said following Auburn's A-Day game on April 9 that he's feeling "no extra pressure" heading into the fall. After posting a team-leading 856 rush yards and five scores as a freshman, Bigsby took another leap as a sophomore, posting 1,099 yards and 10 touchdowns.

And while the feature back will be expected to once again carry the load on the ground, it's possible he'll be bringing a new dynamic to Kiesau's offense. "Coach Harsin's got me everywhere," Bigbsy said. "[He's] got me in the slot receiver, running back - he got me just doing everything. He wants to get me the ball in the open field and do what I have to do." People are also reading...Bigsby is no stranger to big plays. In 23 games at Auburn, he's recorded at least one carry of 20-plus yards in 11 of them. However, Bigsby didn't line up in the slot last season, and turning him into a pass-catching threat from a receiver position would add a new aspect to his game. In two seasons, Bigsby has totaled 268 yards on 32 receptions, with 184 of those yards coming a season ago. - Opelika-Auburn News

Western Kentucky defensive end Marcus Bragg has entered the transfer portal, WKU confirmed to the Daily News on Saturday. The Rivals NCAA Transfer Portal Twitter account was the first to report the news. The 6-foot-4, 260-pound North Miami, Fla., native played in all 14 games last season as a redshirt junior. He recorded 26 total tackles, including three for loss and 2.5 sacks. He also had a pass breakup and forced fumble. Bragg played in 11 games the season prior with seven tackles, and appeared in four games and redshirted his first season at WKU in 2019 after spending time at the junior college level before that. - BG Daily News

  03/04/22 - Derick HallSr/2023, Auburn, 6-3, 254 (DS#5 OLB) + More +

Auburn's A-Day spring game officially has a start time. The Tigers' annual spring game at Jordan-Hare Stadium will kick off at 1 p.m. on April 9, the program announced Wednesday. A network for the broadcast of the game has yet to be announced, though last year's scrimmage aired on SEC Network+ and prior years saw the game broadcast on SEC Network. This year's A-Day will be the second of the Bryan Harsin era, as the Tigers look to bounce back from a disappointing 2021 campaign that included five straight losses to end the year, which resulted in the program's first losing season since 2012. This year's team will begin spring practice March 14 -- the first of 15 practices that will culminate with the spring game at Jordan-Hare Stadium. - Birmingham News

  03/04/22 - John Samuel ShenkerrSr/2023, Auburn, 6-3, 242 (DS#39 TE) + More +

Samuel-Shenker showed a lot of versatility during a rough season for Auburn. He can line up anywhere on the field as a blocker or receiver. He was a favorite target of Nix for a good reason. Auburn's new starting quarterback would be wise to lean on the surehanded Samuel-Shenker. - Birmingham News

  02/28/22 - Owen PappoeSr/2023, Auburn, 6-0, 225 (DS#5 ILB) + More +

Auburn's defense will return another key component in 2022. Linebacker Owen Pappoe announced on Instagram on Sunday afternoon that he will be returning to the Plains for his senior season. Pappoe joins defensive lineman Colby Wooden and edge defender Derick Hall as underclassmen on the Tigers' defense who will be back next season after mulling NFL decisions. "Run it back!" Pappoe posted in a graphic on his Instagram account. The photo was accompanied by a caption that read, "gotta finish this thing the right way! Year 4 OTW (on the way)." The return of Pappoe - one of Auburn's two permanent captains this season - is welcome news for an Auburn linebacker corps that is set to lose leading tackler and All-SEC selection Zakoby McClain, as well as co-captain Chandler Wooten, who was second on the team with 94 total tackles, just two behind McClain's 96 on the year. Pappoe appeared in just five games for Auburn this fall while dealing with a lingering ankle injury for much of the season. He missed Auburn's final four games, though he did participate in bowl practices, and finished his injury-shortened junior campaign with 23 tackles, including three for a loss, and a pair of quarterback hurries. - Birmingham News

Michigan State capped its turnaround from from a two-win season with a fourth-quarter comeback in the Peach Bowl. Payton Thorne's 22-yard touchdown pass to Jayden Reed gave No. 11 Michigan State the lead with less than three minutes remaining and the Spartans overcame an 11-point deficit to beat No. 13 Pittsburgh 31-21 on Thursday night in the Peach Bowl. Led by Thorne, the Spartans outscored the Panthers 21-0 in the final quarter. "The whole game, my teammates just kept telling me to stay up and keep chopping like we talk about," Thorne said. Linebacker Cal Haladay's 78-yard interception return for a touchdown with 22 seconds remaining ended Pitt fill-in quarterback Davis Beville's bid for a last-minute comeback in the game the Panthers played without star QB Kenny Pickett. Thorne threw two fourth-quarter touchdown passes as Michigan State (11-2) rallied after trailing 21-10. "We got stronger and stronger as the game went," second-year coach Mel Tucker said. "We...were able to find a way to get it done." Michigan State finished 2-5 in its pandemic-shortened 2020 season. - Michigan State/AP College Football

On a day TCU football added nine players as part of its 2022 recruiting class on early signing day, the program saw three more players enter the NCAA transfer portal. Safety Da'Veawn Armstead, a three-star prospect in the 2021 class, is leaving the program, a source confirmed. He had five tackles in 10 games this season. Freshman defensive end Chris Murray, another three-star prospect in the 2021 class, is also expected to enter the portal. Murray did not play as a true freshman. Ahmonte Watkins is also in the portal. He played running back in high school but was recruited to TCU as a defensive back. However, the Frogs used Watkins at running back late in the season when depth became an issue with injuries. - Fort Worth Star

On Wednesday, Oregon freshman defensive tackle Jayson Jones decided to enter his name into the transfer portal, a source close to the situation confirmed to The Register-Guard. The 6-foot-6, 320-pound defensive tackle from Calera, Alabama, signed with the Ducks as a member of the 2020 recruiting class. He was a four-star recruit and was graded as the No. 3 defensive tackle in Alabama by Rivals and 247Sports. Oregon was Jones' top choice after he was recruited by Alabama, Auburn, Baylor, Florida, Florida State, Georgia and Georgia Tech. Jones played in all 13 games for Oregon in 2021, recording 19 tackles and 1.5 sacks. He didn't play in 2020 but was able to gain an extra year of eligibility due to the COVID pandemic.   12/16/21 - Zakoby McClainSr/2022, Auburn, 6-0, 227 (DS#17 OLB) + More +

Zakoby McClain will lace 'em up one more time before he heads to the NFL Draft. The Auburn linebacker on Tuesday accepted an invite to the East-West Shrine Bowl, which will be played Feb. 3 in Las Vegas. McClain led Auburn in tackles each of the last two seasons and has been an emotional leader on the Tigers' defense during that time. He led the nation in tackles as a junior last year, finishing with 113 in 11 games, becoming the first Auburn player to finish a season averaging double-digit tackles per game since Dontarrious Thomas in 2001. He followed it up with 96 tackles this season, including eight for a loss, and six pass breakups. McClain also earned second-team All-SEC honors this year, making him one of three Auburn players to make the all-conference team. - Birmingham News
