Highly regarded Arkansas State transfer receiver Corey Rucker will miss the rest of South Carolina's season with a foot injury. Gamecocks coach Shane Beamer said Tuesday that Rucker was scheduled for surgery. Beamer expects Rucker to make a full recovery and be back in time for the team's practice sessions next spring. The Gamecocks (5-3, 2-3 Southeastern Conference) head to Vanderbilt (3-5, 0-4) on Saturday night. Rucker is a 6-foot-1 junior who was expected to make a quick impact on the offense after catching 59 passes for 826 yards and nine touchdowns last season at Arkansas State. But he suffered the foot injury in August workouts and only got on the field in a 56-20 win over Charlotte in September when he caught his only pass of the season for a 52-yard touchdown. Rucker hurt himself again the next week against South Carolina State and has not played since. He joked on social media that while his first year with South Carolina was over, "at least it was a 100 percent rating." - AP College Football

J.T. Shrout threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Montana Lemonious-Craig in overtime, powering Colorado to a 20-13 upset of California in interim coach Mike Sanford's debut Saturday. Jack Plummer had Mason Starling wide open for the score on first-and-goal from the 10 on Cal's ensuing possession but strong safety Trevor Woods arrived just after the pass and popped the ball loose. When Plummer's fourth-down pass fell incomplete, the students stormed the field to celebrate Colorado's first win of the season.

Sanford inherited a team that was off to just the fourth 0-5 start in school history, one that cost Karl Dorrell his job. Sanford placed an immediate emphasis on physicality and takeaways, which paid off on Colorado's first defensive series with Tyrin Tyler's sliding interception, the Bears' first turnover in four games. Cal (3-3, 1-2 Pac-12) entered the game as a 15 1/2-point favorite, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, but Dario Longhetto was wide left on field-goal tries going both ways, missing from 54 yards in the first quarter and 48 in the second. Longhetto was good from 34 yards as time expired in the fourth quarter to send the game to overtime. The Bears won the toss and chose to start out on defense. - Colorado/AP College Football

He averaged 18.5 yards per carry and tallied two rushing touchdowns in a 56-26 win over Lindenwood. His two touchdowns also moved him into a tie for third place on the program's all-time rushing touchdown leaderboard with 22 in parts of three seasons. Wallace ranks first nationally in rushing touchdowns (6), total rushing yards (430), second in rushing yards/game (107.5) and fifth in both all-purpose yards (124.0/game) and rushing yards/carry (7.17).   The South Carolina Gamecocks substantially improved their pass-catcher room this year, importing Wells (James Madison), Corey Rucker (Arkansas State) and tight end Austin Stogner (Oklahoma). Rucker has missed the first two games with a foot injury but could play Saturday against No. 1 Georgia. They've also welcomed Brooks back to the team after he missed the last half of last year with a personal issue, and have hit running back MarShawn Lloyd eight times out of the backfield with five more passes going to fellow RB Juju McDowell. - The Post and Courier

Former USF quarterback Timmy McClain will be transferring to War on I-4 rival UCF. He announced his commitment to the Knights on Friday afternoon. McClain started nine games for the Bulls as a true freshman last season, completing 55.3% of his passes for 1,888 yards, five touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also rushed for 238 yards and four scores. The 6-foot-1, 198-pound Sanford native showed flashes of high-level talent after taking the starting job last year away from Cade Fortin. But he was inconsistent and inexperienced. McClain entered 2022 as the Bulls' expected starter, but USF chose to add Baylor transfer Gerry Bohanon from the transfer portal.

Bohanon, a fifth-year player, helped the Bears win the Big 12 last season and immediately impressed his new teammates and coaches. Sunday night, coach Jeff Scott told McClain that Bohanon would start this season for the Bulls. Within a day, McClain was in the transfer portal and off the Bulls' roster as he looked for a new destination. Scott was not surprised by the decision; incumbent quarterbacks very rarely stay after losing the job to a transfer. - Tampa Tribune
