  Jeff Sims set an Arizona State quarterback rushing record with 228 yards, finished with 405 yards of total offense and had a hand in three touchdowns to lead the Sun Devils past Iowa State 24-19 Saturday. Sims got the record when he broke an 88-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to put the Sun Devils (6-3, 4-2 Big 12) up 24-16. Mark Malone set the previous record in 1978 when he ran for 178 yards against Southern California. The Cyclones (5-4, 2-4) lost their fourth straight game when they were stopped a yard short at the ASU 20 on a fourth-and-6 with 16 seconds left. Sims carried 29 times for the Sun Devils and completed 13 of 24 passes for 174 yards. Chamon Metayer caught six passes for 68 yards and a touchdown, and Raleek Brown ran 16 times for 64 yards. Iowa State quarterback Rocco Becht was 18 of 36 for 186 yards, fewest since since Week 2 against Iowa. - Arizona State/AP College Football

  WEEK 8 CONFERENCE USA DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jessiah McGrew, FIU – Fr. – S – Tallahassee, Fla.,...McGrew grabbed two interceptions in FIU's dominant 25-6 win over WKU, tying a school record with two picks in a game. It also marked the first multi-interception game by a freshman in program history. The true freshman already has three interceptions through the first six games of his collegiate career. McGrew returned his two picks for 39 yards, including a 31-yard return from his own two-yard line. The wideout made a number of key plays, including a 33-yard catch on fourth down on ASU's game-winning drive at the end of regulation.   James Jones, Marquis Gillis and Kobe Boykin each ran for more than 100 yards and Delaware State punished Division-II member Southern Connecticut State 70-23 on Saturday. As a team, Delaware ran for a program record 608 yards on 36 carries and scored seven touchdowns. The Hornets' (4-3) previous single-game team rushing record was 518 yards in a 24-13 win over Towson on Sept. 22, 1990.

Delaware State tied its single-game program with 70 points. The Hornets first reached the feat with a 70-8 win over Bowie State on Oct. 13, 1984. Against the Owls, Jones had 158 yards on three carries and two touchdowns, Gillis had 130 yards, nine carries and touchdown while Boykin had 100 yards on seven carries and a touchdown. The Owls' were led by quarterback John Giller who threw for 244 yards and two touchdowns. - AP College Football

The senior nailed a game-winning field goal from 23 yards out with 1:14 remaining after making a 26-yarder in the third quarter.   David Avit scored three touchdowns, Ja'briel Mace returned the second-half kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown to give Villanova the lead and the Wildcats went on to defeat William & Mary 31-24 on Saturday. Villanova trailed 17-14 at halftime but Mace's return gave the Wildcats a 21-17 lead, Jack Barnum added a field goal and Avit ran 3 yards for his third touchdown to make it 31-17.

The Tribe got a 1-yard touchdown run from Tyler Hughes to make it 31-24 with 4 1/2 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Villanova then had a chance at a two-score lead, but Barnum missed a 36-yard field goal attempt. The Tribe reached midfield on their last drive but Hughes was sacked on the final play. Avit had 133 yards rushing and Pat McQuaide passed for 194 yards for the Wildcats (2-2, 1-1 Coastal Athletic Association). Hughes passed for 233 yards with one touchdown and ran for two more for the Tribe (2-3, 1-1). - AP College Football

It marked the second time in his career he was 3-of-3 in a single game and the first time EMU history a placekicker converted multiple field goal attempts of 50+ yards in the same game. His 57-yard kick in the first quarter not only gave EMU an early lead, it changed the record book as he took over the top spot in EMU history after being tied with two others for the then-record of 55 yards. Additionally, the 57-yard make ranks tied for the fourth-longest in MAC history. Overall, his 57-yard kick is the second-longest in the FBS this year.
