Memphis football defensive back Carlito Gonzalez and quarterback Markevion Quinn, both juniors, are no longer with the team, coach Ryan Silverfield said Tuesday. According to the Shelby County Criminal Justice System Portal, Gonzalez was arrested Oct. 17 and charged with aggravated stalking, a felony, and two related misdemeanors. The Memphis athletic department said in a follow-up statement that Gonzalez "has not been a part of the Memphis program since before the season started. He has not been part of the program even before our first game."

Gonzalez, who transferred from Auburn in 2017, played 11 games for the Tigers last season, including the Cotton Bowl loss to Penn State. In three seasons, he had 25 tackles, two interceptions and a forced fumble in 21 games. Quinn, the Tigers' third-string quarterback, has not said publicly if he's opted out of the season and Silverfield did not elaborate further. Quinn wasn't on the roster ahead of the team's game at Cincinnati last week. He transferred to Memphis in June 2018 following a season at Pearl River Community College (Miss.) and after redshirting due to an ACL injury, he played in two games last season. - Memphis Commercial Appeal
