The redshirt freshman helped lead an offense that averaged 303.1 yards per game this season, while blocking for three freshmen quarterbacks.   Andrew Body threw four touchdown passes and ran for a fifth score, leading Texas Southern to a 59-17 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday. After Arkansas-Pine Bluff took a 3-0 lead early in the first quarter, Body threw four touchdown passes before halftime as the Tigers (2-5, 2-3 SWAC) took a 28-3 lead at the break. In the second half, Body and Jacorey Howard had short touchdown runs and backup QB Jalen Brown threw two TD passes on his only attempts of the game. They were the freshman's first career TDs in 67 pass attempts. Body completed 16 of 25 passes for 271 yards and was not intercepted. He carried 16 times for 121 rushing yards. For the Golden Lions (1-7, 0-5), Skyler Perry completed 25 of 37 passes for 311 yards. His one TD throw went to Trey Harrell, who had eight catches for 126 yards.   Ryan Nettles threw a pair of first-quarter touchdown passes and Jacory Merritt had two short scoring runs in the second period as Alabama State breezed to a 38-24 victory over Bethune-Cookman in its Southwestern Athletic Conference opener on Saturday. Nettles fired a 12-yard TD to Wallace Corker to open the scoring for the Hornets (2-1, 1-0) and, after Jimmie Robinson III scored on a 4-yard run to pull the Wildcats even, connected with Jeremiah Hixson for a 20-yard TD and a lead they never relinquished. Merritt scored on a 1-yard run on the first play of the second quarter to push Alabama State's lead to 21-7. A field goal and Robinson's second TD run pulled the Wildcats (0-4, 0-2) within 21-17, but Merritt again ran it in from a yard out and the Hornets took a 11-point lead into halftime. Ezra Gray stretched Alabama State's lead to 35-17 with a 2-yard TD run in the third quarter. Alabama State travels to play Florida A&M on Saturday, while Bethune-Cookman heads to South Carolina State on Saturday in search of its first win of the season. - AP College Football

  Virginia Tech wide receiver Tyree Saunders has entered the transfer portal. He didn't play last fall, but will still have five years to play four seasons of competition with the NCAA granting all fall student-athletes an additional year of eligibility. Saunders was the third highest ranked signee in the team's 2020 class. The three-star receiver was the No. 810 ranked prospect coming out of First Coast High School in Jacksonville, Florida. He had 25 scholarship offers coming out of high school including ones from Iowa State, Kansas State, UAB and Marshall. As an upperclassman at First Coast, he had more than 80 catches for 1,600-plus yards and 14 touchdowns. He ran a 4.4 40-yard dash with a vertical jump of 34 inches at camps. - Roanoke Times

He threw two touchdown passes - one to Jeremiah Hixon to end the first half and another to Michael Jefferson. The senior was named second team running back, and second team kick returner, after returning 14 kicks for 338 yards. He averaged 24.14 yards per return, with a long of 50. Gray led the conference in returns with the fewest number among the top seven. On offense, the running back carried the ball 157 times for 706 yards with a pair of touchdowns, while also catching 10 passes for 104 yards. Gray was a finalist for the coveted William V.   Former NFL quarterback Tarvaris Jackson has died in a one-car crash outside Montgomery, authorities said Monday. He was 36. The 2012 Chevrolet Camaro that Jackson was driving went off the road, struck a tree and overturned at 8:50 p.m. Sunday, Trooper Benjamin "Michael" Carswell, an Alabama Law Enforcement Agency spokesman, said in a news release. Jackson was pronounced dead at a hospital. The wreck occurred on Pike Road, about seven miles south of Montgomery, his hometown. No other details were immediately released about the crash, which remained under investigation. Jackson was hired as quarterbacks coach for Tennessee State last season after a 10-year NFL career with the Seattle Seahawks, Minnesota Vikings and Buffalo Bills. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll posted a Twitter message calling Jackson "a beloved teammate, competitor, and Seahawk." Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson also posted about Jackson’s death: "TJack... you will be missed. Praying for your family...Love you man." - AP College Football

  HBCU COMBINE INVITE: Joshua Hill, S, Alabama State,...The National Football League (NFL) Operations released the list of draft eligible players that will take part in the first NFL HBCU Combine in Miami (Fla.) later this month. Former Alabama State safety Joshua Hill was among the list of players who were invited to South Florida March 27-28. Teams can interview participants on the evening of March 27, while on-field workouts will take place during the morning of March 28 at the Dolphins' practice facility.

Hill finished his Alabama State career playing in 43 games and tallied 188 tackles. He also finished with six interceptions (returning them for 119 yards) with 16 pass breakups. He recorded five tackles for loss, recovering two fumbles and causing three fumbles. He played at least 10 games in each of his four seasons, with his best coming in 2018 when he recorded 61 tackles and recorded a pair of interceptions. - Alabama State Football
