Montana State Football   Adam Jones ran for 107 yards and a touchdown and second-ranked Montana State beat Yale 21-13 on Saturday to advance to the quarterfinals of the FCS playoffs. The Bobcats (11-2) will host Stephen F. Austin. Yale (9-3) reduced its deficit to 21-13 with 2:01 remaining when Josh Pitsenberger ran it in from the 6 with 2:09 remaining to end a five-play, 54-yard drive. After forcing a three-and-out, Yale took the ball with 59 seconds left and no timeouts. Dante Reno's 18-yard completion to Pitsenberger proved to be the only positive yardage gained on the drive. A series of desperation laterals by Yale ended with Montana State's Zac Crews recovering the ball at the Bulldogs' 3 as time expired.

Against the Bulldogs - who were coming off a stunning 43-42 comeback win over Youngstown State in the first round - Montana State struck first when on his way to score from the 14, quarterback Justin Lamson was stripped at the goal line but receiver Chris Long fell on it in the end zone for a 7-0 lead. It was the only score of the first half. Late in the third quarter, Julius Davis ended a nine-play, 70-yard drive, running it in from the 3 for a two-touchdown lead. Yale countered with its first touchdown when Reno threw a 25-yard touchdown to Nico Brown. The failed two-point conversion made it 14-6. Montana State followed with a score of its own when Jones ran left and scored from 33 yards out for a 21-6 lead with 3:58 left. Reno passed for 198 yards and a touchdown and threw a pair of interceptions. Brown caught 11 passes for 107 yards. - AP College Football

Tarleton State Football   Victor Gabalis threw three touchdown passes and Tarleton State beat North Dakota 31-13 in the second round of the FCS playoffs on Saturday, tying a program record with its 12th win this season. The fourth-seeded Texans (12-1), will host 12th-seeded Villanova next week in the quarterfinals. Villanova beat No. 5 seed Lehigh 14-7 on Saturday. The Texans have been in the playoffs in their first two years of playoff eligibility since completing Division I reclassification. Last season, they beat Drake in the first round before losing to South Dakota. They had a bye to the second round this season. Gabalis found Peyton Kramer deep down the middle for a 64-yard score and a 21-7 lead early in the third quarter.

Brad Larson extended the lead with his third field goal Sawyer Seidl's second TD run cut the lead to 11, but Gabalis hit Marquis Willis in stride down the right sideline for a 77-score early in the fourth quarter. Tarleton State led 13-7 at halftime on Gabalis' 3-yard pass to T'iar Young inside the right pylon and two field goals. Gabalis was 15-of-25 passing for 292 yards with an interception. Willis had 133 yards receiving and Tylan Hines totaled 120 yards rushing on 28 carries. Jerry Kaminski threw for 112 yards with two interceptions and rushed for 63 yards for the unseeded Fighting Hawks (8-6). Seidl had two short TD runs. The Texans are 7-0 at home this season and have nine straight home victories. - AP College Football

Texas Tech Football   Cameron Dickey scored right after the first of linebacker Ben Roberts' two interceptions in the second half as No. 5 Texas Tech won the Big 12 championship game, and almost certainly locked up a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff, with a 34-7 victory over 11th-ranked BYU on Saturday. After investing millions of dollars in the transfer portal, the Red Raiders (12-1, No. 4 CFP) have their first Big 12 title - they are one of only six schools that have been part of all 30 Big 12 seasons. They are also going to the CFP for the first time, though their win likely prevented the Big 12 from getting a second team in the playoff. Behren Morton, who didn't play in Tech's only loss at Arizona State, threw two TDs to Cody Eakin and Stone Harrington kicked four field goals for the Red Raiders. The only losses by BYU (11-2, No. 11 CFP) are to the Red Raiders, including 29-7 in Lubbock four weeks ago before four turnovers in the second half this time. The Cougars will fall out of the top 12 instead of moving up when the new CFP rankings come out Sunday. They likely needed to be in the top 10 for a playoff spot.

Roberts, one of the holdovers on the Tech defense along with fellow linebacker Jacob Rodriguez (13 tackles), got his first interception with about 3 1/2 minutes left in the third quarter when he reached up and deflected the pass by true freshman Bear Bachmeier. On the next play, Dickey took a direct snap and ran untouched 11 yards for a touchdown and 21-7 lead after making the 2-point conversion. Harrington, who kicked a school-record five field goals against BYU last month, missed a 49-yard field goal attempt after Roberts jumped a route to make a one-handed interception in the fourth quarter. But in between Roberts becoming the first player with multiple interceptions in one of the 24 Big 12 championship games, transfer Romello Height recovered when Bachmeier fumbled when being sacked. Harrington made a 44-yarder that time. Robertson almost had his hands on another interception, but that deflection came on a fourth-down play that gave the ball back to the Red Raiders. Tech went ahead to stay on Eakin's incredible leaping 33-yard TD catch with 10:42 left in the second quarter that made it 10-7. He reached up with both hands to snag the ball, then got a foot down while twisting and lunging into the end zone. Eakin had a TD catch in each of Tech's first three games, but then had only one in the previous nine before the Big 12 title game. - Texas Tech/AP College Football

Western Michigan Football   Jalen Buckley had touchdown runs of 67 and 64 yards and Western Michigan won the MAC Championship, defeating Miami of Ohio 23-13 on Saturday. Buckley's 67-yard touchdown burst on the third play of the game gave the Broncos the early lead. Palmer Domschke added three field goals in the first half, the last from 50 yards, and the Broncos led 16-6 at halftime. Buckley's 64-yard TD run made it 23-6 early in the third quarter. In the regular-season matchup between the two, Miami scored 17 points in the fourth quarter, rallying to a 26-17 victory. This time, Western Michigan did not falter.

A couple of possessions after Miami closed to within 23-13 with 6 1/2 minutes left in the fourth quarter, Western Michigan drove to the 1-yard line before turning the ball over on downs. Facing a 10-point deficit and 99 yards to go in less than two minutes, the RedHawks only reached their own 16-yard line. Buckley finished with 193 yards on 19 carries for the Broncos (9-4). His career high was 196 as a freshman against Toledo in 2023. Broc Lowry had 111 yards passing and 65 yards rushing for the Broncos, who had 286 yards on the ground, 397 total. Kam Perry had 101 receiving yards for Miami (7-6) and the RedHawks managed 272 yards of total offense. Both teams will play in a bowl, Miami for the ninth time in the past 10 seasons. Among its five bowl alliances, the Mid-American Conference does not have a specific tie-in for its conference champion. - Western Michigan/AP College Football

Villanova Football   Pat McQuaide threw for 208 yards and a touchdown and Villanova upset third-ranked Lehigh 14-7 on Saturday to advance to the quarterfinal round of the FCS playoffs. Villanova (11-2), which entered the playoffs as a 12 seed, will face the winner of North Dakota and Tarleton State. The Wildcats will make their third appearance in the quarterfinals in the last five seasons. It was Villanova's first playoff road win since 2010. Beginning next season the two programs will become annual rivals as Villanova will join Lehigh in the Patriot League. McQuaide's 28-yard scoring pass to Braden Reed with 3:02 left gave Villanova its first lead of the game.

On Lehigh's (12-1) final drive, the Mountain Hawks drove 54 yards, and on first-and-10 at the Villanova 14, Wildcats defensive lineman Obinna Nwobodo stripped Hayden Johnson on a quarterback keep and Villanova linebacker Shane Hartzell recovered. Villanova ran seven plays, including a key 12-yard completion from McQuaide to Antonio Johnson on third-and-8 at their own 13, and the Wildcats allowed time to expire. After a scoreless first half, Lehigh took the second half kickoff and drove 75 yards in five plays and ended the drive when Aaron Crossley ran it in from the 5. Johnson completed a 36-yard pass to Matt D'Avino and Luke Yoder had a 31-yard run on consecutive plays to help set up the score. Villanova knotted it at 7 later in the third when after a Yoder fumble, the Wildcats put together a six-play, 59-yard drive that resulted in Ja'briel Mace crashing in from the 1 with 2:29 left in the third. - AP College Football

Rutgers Football   L.J. Phillips Jr. rushed for a pair of touchdowns, Mikey Munn made two of South Dakota's four interceptions and the 11th-seeded Coyotes blanked sixth-seeded Mercer 47-0 in the second round of the FCS playoffs on Saturday. The Coyotes (10-4), participating in their fifth FCS playoffs, will play the winner of South Dakota State-Montana in next week's quarterfinals. Phillips scored on 16-and 15-yard runs, both set up by interceptions, and South Dakota led 24-0 at halftime. RJ Stewart and Gabriel Hardman also picked off passes and the defense had a safety. Phillips finished with 160 yards rushing and Carson Fletcher had 107. Aidan Bouman passed for 241 yards and became the school's career yards passing leader with 9,047 and threw touchdowns to Tysen Boze, a 63-yarder, and Larenzo Fenner, a 66-yarder. Fenner set a school record with 15 TD receptions this season. Braden Atkinson threw the four interceptions and finished with 148 yards passing.   Tulane Football   Outgoing Tulane coach Jon Sumrall will remain committed to two college football programs for at least a couple weeks longer - and couldn't be happier about it. Jake Retzlaff had two short touchdown runs, Jamauri McClure rushed for 121 yards and a score and Tulane beat North Texas 34-21 in the American Conference championship game Friday night - a victory that likely secured a College Football Playoff bid. Since accepting an offer to coach at Florida last Sunday, Sumrall has said that if the Green Wave qualified for the 12-team CFP, he'd see that through to the end. As the non-power-conference team with the highest CFP ranking (No. 20) entering this weekend, Tulane (11-2) looked certain to receive a playoff bid. Chris Rogers returned an interception 35-yards for a touchdown for Tulane, which intercepted three passes and recovered two fumbles. The loss could mark the end of the line for North Texas coach Eric Morris, who like Sumrall already had been hired away after leading the Mean Green to its first 11-win regular season. Morris will soon move on to Oklahoma State, but hasn't yet ruled out coaching in UNT's bowl game.

Tulane safety Jack Tchienchou intercepted a tipped pass in the end zone when North Texas (11-2) had first and goal on the 2 in the third quarter - one of several highlights that included his forced fumble that Tulane recovered and his own recovery of the muffed punt. He was named the game's most outstanding player. North Texas trailed 31-7 after Rogers' interception return - which was very close to being ruled a touchback because he lost the ball right as crossed the goal line. The call on the field of a touchdown was upheld, but North Texas didn't fold, initiating a comeback bid with consecutive touchdown drives that took just 3:57 off the clock combined. Drew Mestemaker capped the first with his 59-yard touchdown pass to Miles Coleman. Ashton Gray's 9-yard touchdown run, followed by a 2-point conversion, pulled North Texas to 31-21 with 9:26 still to play. But Tulane helped secured the victory with a 13-play drive that burned 6:29 and ended with Patrick Durkin's 30-yard field goal. - Tulane/AP College Football

Boise State Football   Maddux Madsen delivered four first-half touchdowns and Boise State claimed its third straight Mountain West Conference championship, overpowering UNLV 38–21 on Saturday in the final title game the Broncos will play before leaving for the rebuilt Pac-12 in 2026. Madsen tore through the Rebels early. He stacked up 196 total yards, opening with a 10-yard keeper and adding touchdown throws to Dylan Riley, Cameron Bates and Malik Sherrod as the Broncos (9-4) built a 28–14 lead. Sherrod's 39-yard score came one snap after a UNLV fumble.

UNLV (10-3), in its first season under head coach Dan Mullen, fought back behind quarterback Anthony Colandrea. He led a 95-yard march capped by his 5-yard touchdown run and later found Troy Omeire from 11 yards out to keep the Rebels within two scores at the half. JoJo Earle's 7-yard run cut the deficit to 28–21 late in the third. The Broncos forced three consecutive stops to open the fourth quarter and turned a 78-yard drive into Sire Gaines' 1-yard touchdown run for a 35–21 cushion with 13:21 left. Colton Boomer's 50-yard field goal sealed the margin. Madsen finished with 289 yards passing, while the Broncos outgained UNLV 460–409 and never trailed.   UCLA Football   Wayne Knight rushed for career-high 212 yards, including a 73-yard touchdown, and No. 19 James Madison made its case for a College Football Playoff berth, beating Troy 31-14 in the Sun Belt Conference title game on Friday night. The Dukes (12-1) will now root for Duke to beat Virginia in the Atlantic Coast Conference title game on Saturday night, a result that could make JMU one of two Group of Five schools in the 12-team playoff. On a chilly night when fans were repeatedly chided for throwing snowballs onto the field, JMU's defense recorded eight sacks, a scoop-and-score touchdown and, for the sixth time this season, shut out an opponent in the second half. Defensive end Sahir West had three sacks and was in on 10 tackles. Quarterback Alonza Barnett III's 26-yard touchdown run with 4:11 to play sealed the win as coach Bob Chesney, reportedly bound for UCLA, won his final home game with the Dukes. Barnett rushed for 85 yards and threw for 93 yards and a TD with an interception. A coaching gamble helped keep the game tight in the first half.

With Troy trailing 17-7 and facing a fourth-and-1 at its own 34-yard line, coach Gerad Parker opted to go for it. Lining up in a tight formation, the Trojans used play-action and tried to catch JMU's defense unprepared for a pass downfield. The play didn't seem to surprise the Dukes' defense, but defensive back Elijah Culp grabbed Troy receiver RaRa Thomas, getting flagged for pass interference and giving the Trojans a first down. Troy went on to score seven plays later, with Tae Meadows' 2-yard touchdown run trimming the JMU lead to 17-14 with 2:14 left. Troy (8-5) had a chance to tie it, but Scott Taylor Renfroe missed a 46-yard field-goal try with 4:24 left in the third quarter. The Trojans led 7-3 early in the second quarter when Knight busted loose for his 73-yard TD, the longest in Sun Belt title game history. - James Madison/AP College Football

Syracuse Football   Amari Odom threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Navelle Dean in the final minute after Kennesaw State let a 12-point fourth-quarter lead slip away, and the Owls rallied to beat regular-season champion Jacksonville State 19-15 in the Conference USA championship game Friday night. Kennesaw State first-year coach Jerry Mack led his team to the title after the Owls finished 2-10 last season. Odom and the Owls (10-3) took over at their own 25-yard line after fourth-quarter touchdown runs by Caden Creel and Cam Cook had given the Gamecocks a 15-12 lead with 4:04 left to play. Odom hit Christian Moss for a 26-yard gain on third-and-27 before Coleman Bennett picked up the first down with a 3-yard run with two minutes left. Odom ran 14 yards on a fourth-and-14 keeper, and a late-hit penalty gave Kennesaw State the ball at the Gamecocks' 11 with 63 seconds left. Dean, a sophomore, caught the go-ahead pass from Odom on the next play for his first collegiate touchdown. Dean finished with two catches for 19 yards after entering with two receptions on the season.

Kennesaw State used Bennett's 3-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and Britton Williams' 38-yard field goal in the third to take a 10-0 lead. Momentum swung Jacksonville State's way after Davis Bryson fumbled on a free kick following a safety with 12:39 remaining. Cook, the leading rusher in the FBS with 1,581 yards entering play, turned the turnover into a 1-yard scoring run to cut it to 12-7. Creel's 19-yard touchdown run and his conversion pass to Deondre Johnson gave the Gamecocks a brief lead. Odum completed 26 of 32 passes for 246 yards. Bennett carried 17 times for 82 yards. Creel totaled 96 yards on 12-for-21 passing with an interception. He rushed for 112 yards on 18 carries. Cook totaled 78 yards on 19 rushes. The Owls avenged a 35-26 road loss to the Gamecocks on Nov. 15. - Kennesaw State/AP College Football
