  Memphis Football   Marcus Stokes threw for 223 yards and two touchdowns as Memphis rattled off the final 13 points to beat UNLV 27-21 on Saturday night in a season opener for both teams. The win helped Charles Huff become the first Tigers head coach to win a road debut game. Stokes completed 15 of 26 passes with no turnovers, while Jaylin Carter rushed for 97 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. UNLV took a 14-7 halftime lead behind Jackson Arnold, who threw a 38-yard touchdown pass to Tavian McNair and added a 6-yard touchdown run. The Rebels had won their previous 11 games when leading at the break, with their last loss coming against Syracuse on Oct. 4, 2024.

Stokes tied the game early in the third quarter with a 48-yard touchdown pass to Stonka Burnside, but Arnold answered with a 22-yard touchdown pass to Kayden McGee. Carter then scored on a 36-yard run to make it 21-all. Philippe Laforge kicked field goals of 32 and 36 yards to put Memphis ahead 27-21. UNLV reached the Memphis 18 midway through the fourth quarter, but the Tigers sacked Arnold on fourth-and-7 with 6:08 remaining for a turnover on downs and continued to apply pressure down the stretch to seal the win.   Montana State Football   Justin Lamson threw for 260 yards and accounted for three touchdowns to lead Montana State's 54-0 rout over Utah Tech on Saturday night in the season and Big Sky Conference openers for both teams. Dane Steel caught eight passes for 174 yards for the Bobcats, including a 55-yard touchdown in the first quarter. Colter Petre blocked a punt, and Xavier Ahrens returned the ball 16 yards for a touchdown to stretch the Bobcats' lead to 17-0 early in the second quarter. Adam Jones added a 2-yard touchdown run, and Myles Sansted kicked a 33-yard field goal for a 26-0 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, Lamson threw a 3-yard TD pass to Rylan Schlepp and ran for a 6-yard touchdown to make it 40-0. Brendon Ross' 28-yard pick-6 capped the scoring early in the fourth. Montana State ended last season on a 14-game win streak that included a 35-34 overtime win against Illinois State in the Football Championship Subdivision title game. The Bobcats, ranked first in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 poll, have also won 17 consecutive conference games. Utah Tech made its Big Sky Conference debut after playing three seasons in the United Athletic Conference.   Tarleton State Football   Kaden Anderson accounted for four touchdowns, Tylan Hines added 184 yards rushing and two scores, and Tarleton State rolled to a 49-30 victory over Prairie View A&M on Saturday night in the season opener for both teams. Hines broke loose on a 63-yard touchdown run that stretched Tarleton State's lead to 35-20 with 12:28 left in the third quarter. About five minutes later, Anderson's 2-yard TD plunge made it 42-20. Anderson finished 15-of-21 passing for 224 yards with two touchdown passes to Marquis Willis and another to Tanner Schmidt.

Braedyn Locke completed all five of his pass attempts in the fourth quarter, including a touchdown pass for the Texans. Tevin Carter was 25-of-40 passing for 309 yards and he added 130 yards on the ground on 14 carries for Prairie View A&M. He had a 4-yard touchdown run just before halftime to cut the Panthers' deficit to 28-20. He threw a 53-yard touchdown pass to Jahbari Kuykendall that ended the scoring with 9:51 left. The Texans, ranked fifth in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 poll, are 3-0 in a series that includes double-digit wins in 1994 and 1995. - AP College Football

  Montana Football   Keali'i Ah Yat threw for 265 yards and two touchdowns, including a 53-yard score to Lekeldrick Bridges with 3:20 remaining, as Montana beat Southern Utah 28-21 on Saturday night in the season and Big Sky Conference opener for both teams. The win gave Bobby Kennedy a victory in his debut as Montana's head coach and extended the Grizzlies' winning streak in season openers to 12 games. Montana entered the game ranked No. 2 in the FCS Stats Perform Top 25. Ah Yat completed 15 of 28 passes and also ran for a 3-yard touchdown. Eli Gillman had 169 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns, rushing for 76 yards on 13 carries and catching two passes for 93 yards.

Gillman opened the scoring with an 85-yard touchdown reception on Montana's first offensive play and added a 29-yard touchdown run in the second quarter for a 14-3 halftime lead. Cooper Buffington blocked a 50-yard Southern Utah field goal attempt late in the half. Southern Utah tied the game at 21 on Will Burns' 58-yard touchdown pass to Joshua Acord with 11:41 remaining. Jake Mason blocked the ensuing extra-point attempt before Montana drove 80 yards and Ah Yat connected with Bridges for the go-ahead score. Burns threw for 251 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 119 yards. Floyd Chalk added 100 yards rushing and a touchdown. - AP College Football

  Illinois State Football   Gage Roy threw three touchdown passes, and Tyler Lofton ran for 119 yards and two scores as Illinois State shut out St. Francis of Illinois 76-0 on Saturday in both teams' season opener. Illinois State, ranked No. 4 in the FCS Stats Perform Top 25, set a Hancock Stadium record for points in a game. Roy completed all 10 of his passes for 85 yards, while Beckham Pellant went 6 of 6 for 114 yards and two touchdowns. The Redbirds completed 21 of 24 passes for 236 yards and six touchdowns without an interception.

The Redbirds scored four touchdowns in the second quarter, including Lofton's 85-yard run and Pellant's 48-yard touchdown pass to Dylan Lord, for a 48-0 halftime advantage. Stevan Gavric's first career catch went for a 4-yard touchdown from Pellant. Travis Stamm later caught a 3-yard pass from Chase Kwiatkowski for his first career touchdown. Lofton scored again on a 9-yard run and needed just five carries for his 119 yards. Illinois State rushed for 353 yards and five touchdowns on 31 attempts. St. Francis, an NAIA team, was held to 14 rushing yards and 106 yards passing. - AP College Football

  Mercer Football   Jaylen King threw for a touchdown and Cameron Goggins had an interception return for a touchdown and Mercer held off East Texas A&M 23-15 in a season opener on Saturday night. The Bears enter the season ranked 21st in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 poll. Simon Zeidan opened the scoring with a 55-yard field goal to put Mercer up 3-0. Before the end of the first, King threw a 12-yard touchdown to Jackson Kostmayer for a 10-0 lead. Zeidan added field goals of 21 and 33 yards to extend the lead to 16-0 with 30 seconds before halftime.

Fifteen seconds later, Eric Rodriguez threw a 38-yard pick-6 to Goggins for a 23-point lead. The Lions got on the scoreboard when Rodriguez threw a 48-yard touchdown to Micah Simpson with 2:01 left in the third. They closed to within 23-15 when Quay Middlebrooks ended an 80-yard drive running into the end zone from the 9. Rodriguez ran it in for the two-point conversion. East Texas A&M turned it over on downs with 35 seconds, when on 4th-and-goal at the Mercer 9, Rodriguez threw high over the head of wide open Jake Whitehead and the Bears killed the clock. Simpson caught nine passes for 165 yards and a touchdown for the Lions. - AP College Football
