Buffalo Football   Chance Morrow caught his third touchdown pass from Elijah Holmes with 4:23 left in the game and the Buffalo Bulls beat the Albany Great Danes of the FCS 21-17 on Thursday night. Morrow finished with seven receptions for 48 yards for the Bulls (1-0). Holmes was 26-of-47 passing for 189 yards and hit Morrow for touchdowns of 9, 4 and 5 yards. Kickoff, which had originally been scheduled for 7 p.m. local time, was delayed about 2 3/4 hours due to inclement weather in the area. Rahshan La Mons ran for a 4-yard gain that made it second-and-goal from inside the 1 with 1:26 left, but a false start moved the Great Danes (1-1) back outside the 5. On fourth-and-goal, Stevie Bracey tackled Luke McAuliffe at the 3 to seal it.

Holmes led the Bulls on a 15-play, 75-yard drive that took more than 6 1/2 minutes off the clock and made it 7-7 when he hit Morrow for a 9-yard TD with 11:23 left in the first half. Morrow went up high over his defender to snatch a pass along the sideline from Holmes and got both feet down for a 4-yard touchdown that gave Buffalo a 14-7 lead with 2:46 remaining in the second quarter. Kai Colon threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Tavahri Groves to open the scoring with 3:02 left in the first quarter. Dana Johnson Jr.'s strip-sack of Holmes was recovered by Dorian Royal at the Buffalo 27, but the Great Danes settled for an apparent 44-yard field goal by Kocan. Buffalo was called for roughing the kicker and first-year Albany coach Tom Perkovich took a fresh set of downs and the points off the board. Two plays later, Justus Murray Jr. made a 14-yard touchdown catch to take a 17-14 lead with 3:23 to go in the third. RJ Kocan made a 46-yard field goal just before halftime to cut Albany’s deficit to 14-10. - AP College Football

It was Kennesaw State's first shutout since a 14-0 win at home against North Carolina on Oct. 16, 2021. Kennesaw State took advantage of Triston Morgan's 47-yard opening kickoff return which started at the goal line. On the fifth play of the drive, Murrell ran to his left and 45 yards later made it 6-0 before a missed point-after attempt. Morgan ran for a 60-yard touchdown on a one-play drive to extend the margin to 12-0 before a failed two-point conversion.

On the ensuing kickoff, Sean Ferguson fumbled at the Wolves' 14 and Josh Anglin recovered it for Kennesaw State. Collins ran it in from the 3 with 44 seconds left for a 19-0 lead after one quarter.   Missouri Football   Austin Simmons threw for 252 yards and four touchdowns in a Missouri debut that lasted less than a half, and the No. 25 Tigers rolled to a season-opening 54-14 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Thursday night. Simmons lost the starting job to Trinidad Chambliss at Ole Miss following an injury last season. So, he transferred to its SEC rival, and proceeded to go 17 of 19 through the air, before giving way to Missouri backup Matt Zollers for the final series of the first half. Simmons' favorite target was Donovan Olugbode, who finished with eight catches for 116 yards and two of the scores. Jamal Roberts, getting the start in place of All-America running back Ahmad Hardy, added 47 yards and a touchdown on the ground for the Tigers. Hardy is still recovering from a gunshot wound that he sustained as a bystander earlier this year.

Garrison Davis and Jack Schierholz split the snaps at quarterback for Arkansas-Pine Bluff (1-1), but neither was particularly effective. Schierholz had a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter while Za'Marion Webber had a 27-yard touchdown run. The Tigers set the tone from their opening series, when Simmons was a crisp 7 of 7 for 61 yards with a 25-yard touchdown strike to Shaun Terry II. Simmons hit Olugbode from 14 yards out to cap the next series, Roberts plowed in for a TD early in the second quarter, and Simmons added long touchdown throws to Olugbode and fellow Ole Miss transfer Cayden Lee before his day was done. It was 40-0 by halftime on a sweltering night at Faurot Field. The Tigers cruised the rest of the way with their backups. - AP College Football

Central Florida Football   Alonza Barnett III made his UCF debut and led the Knights to a 73-6 victory over Bethune-Cookman on Thursday night, setting a program record for largest margin of victory. Barnett, who transferred from James Madison in the offseason, threw for 158 yards and a touchdown. He added a rushing touchdown as the Knights scored on their first three drives and 10 of 12 overall.

Running back Duke Watson took UCF's second offensive play 64 yards for a touchdown for the Knights' first score. Jayden Williams returned a Tyler Jefferson interception 47 yards for a touchdown, and Barnett capped off the scoring in the first quarter with a 5-yard run for a 21-0 lead. The victory eclipsed a 64-point win over Grand Valley State in 1987 when UCF was still in Division II. The 73 points tied the program record set in a 2017 victory over Austin Peay.   Minnesota Football   Javon Tracy set Minnesota's single-game record with two punt return touchdowns in the season opener against Eastern Illinois, an 87-yard runback for a score in the first quarter and a 69-yarder in the third quarter on Thursday night. Tracy had the first punt return touchdown for the Gophers in eight years when he fielded a 55-yard kick near the right sideline late in the first quarter and sprinted along a wall of blockers untouched into the end zone. The fifth-year wide receiver, an Indianapolis native who's in his second season at Minnesota after transferring from Miami (Ohio), then caught a 48-yard kick early in the third quarter near the right sideline. He made two stutter-step moves to evade would-be tacklers before veering left and racing untouched down the field to give the Gophers a 42-7 lead. Starting strong safety Kerry Brown delivered a key block at the 36-yard line to clear the path.

Tracy also caught five passes for 98 yards, all in the first half. He had a 55-yard reception in the second quarter to the 1-yard line, running a corner route for a leaping catch at the 37 before breaking four tackles. The play was called a touchdown on the field, before a replay review ruled that Tracy's knee touched the turf before the goal line as he tried to duck-walk across the plane while the last defender dragged him down. The last Minnesota player with a punt return touchdown was Demetrius Douglas on Nov. 24, 2018, at Wisconsin. The last Big Ten player with two punt returns for scores in the same game was Penn State's Daequan Hardy on Oct. 14, 2023, against Massachusetts. The Big Ten record book has three others who've logged two punt return touchdowns in a game: Kevonte Martin-Manley for Iowa against Western Michigan on Sept. 21, 2013; Garcia Lane for Ohio State against Purdue on Oct. 8, 1983; and Earl Girard for Wisconsin against Iowa on Nov. 8, 1947. - AP College Football

Wake Forest Football   Gio Lopez threw for 350 yards and three touchdowns in his Wake Forest debut, helping the Demon Deacons beat Akron 38-16 in Thursday night's opener. Lopez had completed 17 of 25 passes for 313 yards and all three of his scores by halftime, including hitting Louisville transfer Antonio Meeks deep over the middle for a 72-yard TD. He followed with a quick throw to returnee Carlos Hernandez, who shrugged off a tackle then broke loose up the left sideline for a 78-yard score and a 28-0 second-quarter lead. Lopez struggled last year at North Carolina in NFL coaching great Bill Belichick's messy first college season, but reunited with offensive coordinator Rob Ezell after thriving under him at South Alabama in 2024.

Lopez had a 34-yard pass to Hernandez on the opening drive before capping it with a 27-yard touchdown up the seam to Kam Shanks. Hernandez had five grabs for 165 yards before being knocked from the game before halftime on a jarring hit to the midsection. Ty Clark III ran for 105 yards on just seven carries in a 559-total yard day for the Demon Deacons (1-0). Redshirt freshman Cibastian Broughton started in his college debut for the Zips (0-1), throwing for 111 yards and running for 82 more. Akron got on the board with Matthew Schramm's 28-yard field goal shortly before halftime, while backup QB Brayden Roggow had two short TD throws late. - AP College Football

Massachusetts Football   Pop Watson III passed for 197 yards and three touchdowns as UMass ended a 16-game losing streak with a 37-21 win over Rutgers in the season-opener for both teams on Thursday night. It ended the longest current losing streak in the FBS. The Minutemen’s last win against an FBS school was against Army in 2023. Watson connected with Elijah Faulkner on two touchdowns and Joseph Griffin Jr. for one touchdown as UMass built a 24-7 halftime lead. It was the Minutemen’s first halftime lead against a power conference school since leading Mississippi State in 2017.

Curtis Kimmons IV added a 17-yard TD run to push the UMass lead to 37-14 late in the fourth quarter. KJ Duff, an AP All-America second-team wide receiver caught three TD passes for Rutgers. Watson effectively scattered his 18 completions among seven UMass receivers. The transfer from Virginia Tech was equally comfortable throwing and running the ball primarily out of the shotgun.
