Long Island University Football   WEEK 11 NEC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Trey Watkins, LIU, Defensive Back, Redshirt Junior, 6-0, 185 lbs., Rahway, NJ/St. Joseph Regional (Lafayette),...Week 11 Stats: 6 tackles (5 solo), 1 pick-6 (30 yards),...LIU's defense has been stifling as of late thanks in part to Watkins, who has snagged two of the last three NEC/Atlantic Tomorrow's Office Defensive Player of the Week awards. The Rahway, NJ native has been an integral part of a Sharks' defense that has limited NEC squads to just 12.0 points per game, the second-best average in the league, this year. In addition, LIU nearly shut down the conference's top two scoring teams during that stretch, as it held undefeated Central Connecticut to 10 points on Nov. 1 before it limited Duquesne to 11 points on Saturday, a mark that is significantly lower than the Dukes' season average of 29.4 points per game in league play. At Duquesne, Watkins posted six tackles, including five solo stops. Most impressively, the defensive back produced a pivotal play in the third quarter when he returned an interception 30 yards to the end zone to extend LIU's advantage to 22-3 in the eventual 29-11 win. Watkins leads the NEC with five picks this season while his 0.5 interceptions per game are good for second in the FCS. - NEC Football

New Haven Football   WEEK 11 NEC CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: AJ Duffy, New Haven, Quarterback, Junior, 6-2, 215 lbs., St. Augustine, FL/Rancho Verde (Florida State/San Diego State),...Week 11 Stats: 15-of-26 completions, 311 passing yards, 3 passing touchdowns, 0 interceptions, 70 rushing yards, 12 rushes, 1 rushing touchdown...Duffy put an exclamation point on New Haven's inaugural season as an NEC and NCAA Division I member by delivering a sensational performance against visiting Merrimack on Saturday. The junior quarterback orchestrated a second-half comeback that saw the Chargers bounce back from a 10-point halftime deficit to score a 41-31 victory over the Warriors. Opening the afternoon with the game's first score, a one-yard scamper into the end zone, Duffy followed a Liam Quigley field goal with a 70-yard touchdown bomb to Jonathan Lawson to knot the score up at 24-all midway through the third quarter.

That throw was the fourth-longest in the NEC this season. The Floridian continued to take control of the game and fuel the Chargers' torrid scoring run in the fourth quarter. After Quigley kicked the go-ahead field goal just 15 seconds into the stanza, he threw touchdown passes of 37 and 60 yards to give his team a comfortable 41-24 lead with 5:04 left to play. With two weeks to go in the 2025 regular season campaign, Duffy, who racked up 311 passing yards and 70 rushing yards in the win, tops the league's charts in several passing categories. He is first in touchdown throws (22), passing yards (2,347) and passing yards per game (234.7). In addition, Duffy is ranked among the nation's top-15 in each of those three categories, with his 22 touchdown passes being the sixth-most. Duffy closed out his first season as an NEC signal caller with two NEC/Atlantic Tomorrow's Office Offensive Player of the Week nods. - NEC Football
