Clemson Football   Chris Johnson Jr. ran for an 87-yard touchdown and took a short pass 42 yards for a score after a nifty escape from quarterback Kevin Jennings as SMU beat Stanford 34-10 on Saturday. Justin Medlock returned an interception 96 yards for a clinching TD in the fourth quarter of the 19th consecutive regular-season conference victory for the Mustangs (4-2, 2-0 Atlantic Coast). SMU is 10-0 in the ACC in the regular season since returning to a power conference last season for the first time since 1995. The Mustangs lost to Clemson in the ACC championship game last year.

The Cardinal (2-4, 1-2) answered Johnson’s long rushing score with 35 seconds to go before halftime by driving 75 yards in four plays and 33 seconds to get within 17-7 at the break. Stanford cornerback Aaron Morris was immobilized and taken off the field in an ambulance in the first quarter after tackling SMU receiver Jordan Hudson. Morris cleared precautionary tests and was allowed to rejoin the team before the end of the game. Five plays after Morris’ injury, Derrick McFall took a short pass from Jennings 19 yards for the game’s first points. Johnson was 22 of 30 for 247 yards and two scores. On the TD to Johnson, Jennings escaped immediate pressure from Tevarua Tafiti by pivoting out the tackle, then lobbing the pass to Johnson just before he was crunched by several defenders. Johnson was alone along the sideline before cutting toward the middle of the field. - SMU/AP College Football

Weigman completed 21 of 30 passes for 306 yards without an interception. He threw scoring passes on back-to-back drives in the second quarter to help Houston build 24-10 at halftime. Berger, who transferred to UCLA from Michigan State after the 2023 season, ran for 83 yards on 13 carries and also had three catches for 24 yards.   Stanford Football   Stanford cornerback Aaron Morris was cleared medically to return to the sideline against SMU after being immobilized and taken off the field in an ambulance following a tackle in the first quarter Saturday, the school said. Morris' face mask was removed while he was placed on a stretcher before he was loaded onto the ambulance at SMU's Ford Stadium. He was moving his arms and legs as medical personnel began attending to him on the field, and Stanford spokesman Brian Brownfield said Morris was "alert and responsive. Doing well." "Aaron Morris has cleared all precautionary tests and is returning to be with the team for the conclusion of the SMU matchup," the school said in a statement released early in the second half.

Morris and linebacker Sam Mattingly closed on Jordan Hudson from opposite sides after the SMU wide receiver made a 12-yard catch with about five minutes left in the first quarter. Morris was the first to make contact before Mattingly came in over the top of Morris and Hudson. Morris is a junior from Lowell, Massachusetts.   Alabama Football   Alabama wide receiver Derek Meadows appeared to be knocked unconscious by a violent hit from Missouri safety Marvin Burks Jr. on Saturday, resulting in a scary situation in the first quarter at Memorial Stadium. Meadows had leaped to catch a pass from Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson when Burks, ranging to his left, delivered a big shoulder-to-shoulder blow. Meadows hit the turf and lay motionless, his right arm bent at an awkward angle, as several members of the Crimson Tide coaching staff rushed from the sideline to surround him.

Quiet fell over the stadium, and it took several minutes before they sat Meadows up, and several more before they helped him walk off the field. Burks was flagged for targeting on the play, and the penalty was upheld after the officials reviewed it. Meadows, a freshman from Las Vegas, has yet to catch a pass in a game this season. Meanwhile, Alabama running back Jam Miller also left the game early in the fourth quarter after taking a hard hit near the sideline. He walked to the locker room with the help of trainers. The game between the eighth-ranked Crimson Tide and No. 14 Missouri marks the first in Columbia between two AP top-15 teams since Sept. 29, 1979, when the Tigers lost to Texas. South Florida went ahead to stay with some trickery right after halftime, on receiver Christian Neptune's 29-yard TD pass to Keshaun Singleton after first taking a handoff on a sweep. The Bulls' third interception in the game then set up Sam Franklin's 11-yard TD with 12:35 left in the third quarter, a minute before the big return by Shuler for a 42-21 lead. UNT redshirt freshman quarterback Drew Mestemaker, who never started a varsity game in high school, was 30-of-46 passing for 326 yards and two touchdowns, while also running for a score.   Oklahoma Football   Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer's status has been upgraded to probable for the Sooners' game Saturday against Texas. Mateer injured his right hand during a 24-17 win over Auburn on Sept. 20. The change from questionable was listed Thursday on the Southeastern Conference availability report. Mateer led the sixth-ranked Sooners (5-0, 1-0) to wins over Michigan and Auburn - both Top 25 teams when the games were played. The transfer from Washington State has passed for 1,215 yards and six touchdowns and rushed for 190 yards and five scores in four games.

Mateer played three quarters against Auburn with the injury to his throwing hand and still scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 9-yard run in the fourth quarter while hurt. He had surgery during Oklahoma's off week, then missed last week's game against Kent State. Michael Hawkins Jr. stepped in and threw three touchdown passes and ran for a score in the Sooners' 44-0 win. - AP College Football
