According to the report, Daniels fled police with two of his younger siblings in the car.   California Football   Cal's hiring of Ron Rivera as general manager in March signaled a potentially significant shift in how the program operated. Would a place that historically hasn't invested enough in football or set particularly high standards for on-field performance shift its approach under Rivera, a former Chicago Bears linebacker and NFL coach? The answer came Sunday with the firing of coach Justin Wilcox. Although Wilcox has guided Cal to a third consecutive bowl appearance, the program seemingly had plateaued at six wins under his leadership. An awful showing against archrival Stanford following an open week signaled to Rivera and the Cal brass that things wouldn't be getting better under Wilcox in Berkeley. He never had a winning record in conference play (Pac-12 or ACC) and eclipsed six wins just twice in nine seasons. Wilcox couldn't break the pattern, and Cal finally had enough.

Rivera now has control over Cal's future and will spearhead the search for Wilcox's successor. Cal has pledged to increase its overall investment in football and put together rosters that can compete in the wide-open ACC. Despite an uneven season, Cal has a rising star in freshman quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele, who has said he wants to remain in Berkeley despite inevitable transfer interest. Hiring a coach who can keep JKS and other key players from the current roster will be important. Cal also has to sell itself as a serious football place. Stanford is stabilizing under GM Andrew Luck, and as the other West Coast member of the ACC, Cal must display similar commitment to attract coaches who can take the program further than Wilcox did. - ESPN College Football

Colorado State Football   Colorado State quarterback Darius Curry and offensive lineman Liam Wortmann have been suspended for the Rams' final regular-season game for spitting on Boise State players during the second half of Saturday night's game in Boise, Idaho. A video on social media showed Curry spitting at defensive lineman Jayden Virgin-Morgan, who had blocked Curry while a Boise State player returned what he thought was a live ball on a backward pass that hit the ground. The pass was ruled an incompletion. It wasn't immediately clear at whom or when Wortmann spit.

Boise State coach Spencer Danielson said after the game he didn't see the incident because he was pulling Virgin-Morgan and a few other players back to the sideline, the Idaho Statesman reported. "After having a chance to review the film following the game, I want to apologize to the Boise State football players, Coach Danielson, and everyone at Boise State University," CSU interim coach Tyson Summers said in a statement. CSU athletic director John Weber echoed Danielson's apology in the same statement. Boise State won 49-21 in a game in which the teams combined for 14 penalties for 175 yards. Curry was making his first career start. Wortmann has started all 11 games at right guard. CSU (2-9, 1-6 Mountain West) closes the regular season at home Friday against Air Force. "Actions like spitting on an opposing player have no place in college athletics," the MWC said in a statement. "The Conference commends CSU for acting swiftly and decisively to uphold the values of respect and sportsmanship that define our Conference." - AP College Football

Florida State Football   Florida State coach Mike Norvell will return for a seventh season with the Seminoles, pledging to make needed structural changes within the program to enhance performance, the school announced Sunday. Questions that had been mounting about Norvell's job security reached a boiling point after a 21-11 loss to NC State on Friday night that dropped the Seminoles to 5-6. They need a win at Florida on Saturday to reach bowl eligibility. Over the past two years, Florida State is 7-16 (3-13 in ACC play) and winless on the road. Norvell, however, did win an ACC title in 2023 and has maintained his optimism for the future. In a statement, university president Richard McCullough said he, athletic director Michael Alford and board of trustees chairman Peter Collins were in "complete agreement that changes are needed for our program to improve." "Coach Norvell embraces our support in that process and agrees that success must be achieved. He continues to demonstrate an unwavering belief in this program's future, and so do we," McCullough said. "This decision reflects a unified commitment to competing in the rapidly evolving landscape of college football, while maintaining continuity within the program." Sources said more resources would be placed into recruiting and the roster, and changes would be made to the personnel department to allow Norvell the best chance to succeed.

Had Florida State moved on from Norvell, the school would have owed him about $54 million in buyout money. All told, Florida State would have owed about $72 million to Norvell and his staff. In six seasons with the Seminoles, Norvell is 38-33 with only two winning seasons. Despite its record this year, Florida State has made strides over 2024, when it finished 2-10 -- the worst program mark since 1974. Florida State has gone from among the worst offenses in the country -- ranking No. 132 in the nation last year -- to one of the best, ranking No. 8 this year and outgaining opponents in 10 games. - AP College Football

Washington Football   Demond Williams Jr. scored on two quarterback keepers and threw for two touchdowns, and Alex McLaughlin returned a fumble for a 59-yard TD to help Washington rout UCLA 48-14 on Saturday night. The Huskies (8-3, 5-3 Big Ten) won their second game in a row for the first time since early October. Williams was 17-of-26 for 213 yards passing, hitting Dezman Roebuck with an 18-yard score and Decker DeGraaf with a 24-yard TD. Williams ran for TDs of 25 and 11 yards. The Huskies piled up 212 rushing yards to 58 for UCLA. They had 25 first downs to 10 for the Bruins and were 4 of 11 on third down to 2 of 13 for UCLA. The Bruins (3-8, 3-5) lost their fourth in a row, tying their season-worst skid, while playing what could have been their final regular-season game at the historic Rose Bowl because of an imbroglio between the university and the City of Pasadena involving UCLA's lease.

UCLA quarterback Nico Iamaleava returned after missing last week's blowout loss at No. 1 Ohio State while in concussion protocol only to get hurt in the third quarter. He was sacked for a 15-yard loss by Bryce Butler with the Bruins trailing 27-0. The Tennessee transfer was 16-of-26 for 69 yards and no touchdowns. Iamaleava also ran for 16 yards on five carries. He was replaced by Luke Duncan, who started in Iamaleava's place against Ohio State. UCLA's Cash Peterman ran for a 3-yard loss and fumbled at the Washington 41. McLaughlin recovered the ball and returned it for a TD, extending the Huskies' lead to 20-0 in the second. Mikey Matthews scored UCLA's first TD on a 37-yard catch from Duncan late in the third. Jamir Benjamin scored on a 1-yard fumble recovery in the fourth. - Washington/AP College Football

UCLA Football   UCLA quarterback Nico Iamaleava left Saturday night's 48-14 loss to Washington after being sacked and hurt in the third quarter. The Tennessee transfer was sacked for a 15-yard loss at the UCLA 25-yard line by Bryce Butler at 8:44, with the Bruins trailing 27-0. After lying on his back, Iamaleava got up and walked off the Rose Bowl field under his own power and entered a blue tent behind the Bruins' bench. Last week, Iamaleava missed UCLA's 48-10 loss at No. 1 Ohio State while he was in concussion protocol. He initially got hurt in a loss to Nebraska on Nov. 8. "Not completely sure," interim coach Tim Skipper said when asked if Iamaleava had suffered a concussion. "He was talking when we went out there, but when he came out, he went into the tent, then came into the locker room. We'll get an update as we go, but that's all I really know." Iamaleava was 16-of-26 for 69 yards and no touchdowns before getting hurt and also ran for 16 yards on five carries. He was replaced by sophomore Luke Duncan, who started in Iamaleava's place at Ohio State, Duncan was 5-of-11 for 81 yards and a touchdown on Saturday. ESPN College Football

  11/22/25 - RB LJ Martin, Sr/2027, BYU + More +

BYU Football   LJ Martin ran for a career-high 222 yards and scored twice to help No. 11 BYU keep its Big 12 title-game hopes alive with a 26-14 victory over Cincinnati on Saturday night. After Brendan Sorsby's 19-yard TD pass to Jeff Caldwell cut the Cougars' lead to six points with 4:37 left, Martin had a 33-yard touchdown run to seal it for BYU (10-1, 7-1). The 222 rushing yards are eighth-most in school history. It's the 18th time a BYU running back has run for more than 200 yards, first since Tyler Allgeier ran for 266 against Virginia in 2021. Sorsby passed for 300 yards with two touchdowns and an interception for Cincinnati (7-4, 5-3). The Bearcats have lost three straight. Bear Bachmeier's 6-yard touchdown run put the Cougars ahead 7-0 in the first quarter. He has 11 rushing TDs to tie with Ronney Jenkins for second-most by a freshman in program history.

Cincinnati's Manny Covey returned a punt 57 yards to the BYU 33. Two plays later, Sorsby tossed a 27-yard TD pass to Cyrus Allen to tie the score it at 7. Allen has 11 touchdown receptions to lead the Big 12. Bearcats kicker Stephen Rusnak who was 12 of 13 on field-goal attempts, missed from 42 and 40 yards in the first half. He missed again from 48 in the third quarter. Sorsby, who went seven straight games without an interception, threw his fourth pick in three games early in the third quarter. The Cougars took advantage of the turnover with an 11-play 66-yard scoring drive. Martin's 1-yard TD run made the score 17-7. Martin rushed for 100 yards for the sixth time this season. An offsides penalty on the Bearcats on a punt extended BYU's drive leading to a 32-yard field goal by Will Ferrin that made it 20-7 with 14 minutes remaining. - BYU/AP College Football

Oklahoma State Football   Drew Mestemaker threw for 469 yards and three touchdowns, Wyatt Young set an American Conference record with 295 yards receiving and two scores, and No. 22 North Texas rallied from an early deficit to beat Rice 56-24 on Saturday night. Mestemaker went 19 of 23 and completed touchdown passes of 74 and 84 yards to Young and 56 yards to Tre Williams III in the first half. The quarterback also rushed for a 1-yard score in the third quarter as the Mean Green (10-1, 6-1 American) scored 42 straight points after Rice jumped out to a 14-0 lead. Young had the most receiving yards in a Division I game this season, surpassing TCU's Eric McAlister, who had 254 yards against SMU on Sept. 20.

Morris spoke highly of Young, who played in high school just outside Houston in Katy and had between 30 and 40 relatives and friends in the stands. Young said he didn't know his yardage total until the second half when the conference record was within reach. Once he knew where he stood, he wanted to get to 300 yards. Caleb Hawkins rushed for 97 yards and three touchdowns for North Texas, which is ranked for the first time since 1959. North Texas outgained Rice 640 yards to 397 in winning its fifth straight game.
