  Draft Scout by Conference

For the third straight year, the Nicholls State University football team will be hosting an opening round FCS playoff game as the Colonels welcome North Dakota to Manning Field at John L. Guidry Stadium for a 3 p.m. matchup on Saturday, Nov. 30. Nicholls (8-4) secured the Southland Conference's automatic berth after knocking off Southeastern Louisiana in the River Bell Classic Thursday night. It marked the second straight auto bid for the Colonels, who advanced to the second round last season. North Dakota (7-4) earned an at-large berth after ending the year with back-to-back victories.

Competing as an independent, the Fighting Hawks had wins over Southland member Sam Houston State, as well as national seed Montana State. Saturday's game will be the first meeting between the programs. The winner will advance to play at No. 1 North Dakota State next Saturday (Dec. 7). For consecutive seasons, Nicholls is one of three Southland programs to make the 24-team field, joined by league co-champion Central Arkansas (9-3) and Southeastern Louisiana (7-4). UCA earned the No. 8 seed and will have a bye, while the Lions host Villanova on Saturday. - Nicholls Football
