  09/07 WEEK 1 SEC FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK: Faizon Brandon, Tennessee, Position: Quarterback, Class: Freshman, Hometown: Greensboro, N.C.,...Tennessee's Faizon Brandon, a freshman quarterback from Greensboro, N.C., tied a Tennessee freshman record with five total touchdowns in his first collegiate game, leading the Vols past Furman, 56-9. He was 13-of-17 through the air for 226 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions and also rushed for 68 yards and two scores on 10 carries, matching the UT freshman mark of five touchdowns set by Casey Clausen (2000, Arkansas) and Tyler Bray (2010, Memphis). Brandon became the first SEC player with at least three passing touchdowns and at least two rushing touchdowns in his first FBS start since Auburn's Cam Newton did so against Arkansas State on Sept. 4, 2010. He was also the second FBS true freshman quarterback since 1995 with 225 passing yards, 65 rushing yards, three passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns in a single contest, joining Arkansas State's Jaylen Raynor, who did so on Sept. 23, 2023, versus Southern Miss. Since 1995, Brandon is one of just three Tennessee quarterbacks with 225 passing yards and 65 rushing yards in a game, along with Hendon Hooker (four times) and Joshua Dobbs (four times), and he was the only FBS freshman in Week 1 to account for five total touchdowns. - SEC Football
