Oregon will face its former starting quarterback in 2023. Tyler Shough, who started for UO in 2020 and has spent the past two seasons at Texas Tech, announced he'll be returning to the Red Raiders for his senior season. Texas Tech hosts Oregon on Sept. 9. "Based on where I feel like I can go in the draft next year and also because I love this team so much and a lot of guys coming back, including coach (Joey) McGuire, coach (Zach) Kittley," Shough said of his reason for returning for a sixth year of college football. "I have such a great relationship with them and all the guys on staff to where it's just like, why would I want to leave when I feel like we're building that momentum where I really want to be a part of something special, especially with such a great team and a close-knit unit."

Shough completed 59.9% of his passes for 1,304 yards with seven touchdowns and four interceptions and ran for 269 yards and four scores in seven games this season, missing six weeks with a left shoulder injury. He led Texas Tech to a 42-25 win against Mississippi in the Texas Bowl on Wednesday night and was named the game's MVP. - The Oregonian
