Whenever "the drive" is discussed from the 2021 Iron Bowl, usually it's in relation to Bryce Young and his Heisman moment. It makes sense, considering Young led the Alabama football offense on a 97-yard march down the field, capped by a 28-yard touchdown pass with 24 seconds left. However, it was also a significant moment for the player on the receiving end of the catch that sent the game to overtime. Ja'Corey Brooks, then a freshman receiver, had only two catches before that game and no touchdowns. Then he became an Alabama hero.

Brooks hadn't spoken to the media until Monday because Alabama freshmen aren't usually made available to reporters, so much of his time at the podium was spent reflecting on that game. "I'm from Florida, so I didn't know how big the Iron Bowl was," Brooks said. "I just went out there and took it play by play. After I got to the sideline, (Jameson Williams) was telling me it was a great catch. During that play, I just tried to execute and do my job." Brooks not only made the catch but did so in a somewhat difficult fashion. Young placed the throw in a perfect window over Brooks' shoulder with a defensive back stuck to him in coverage. Brooks managed to stay in bounds as he secured the catch in the end zone. "In practice, Coach (Holmon Wiggins) tells us to get to the jugs machine multiple times a day," Brooks said. "It's really repetition. Just kept practicing that throughout the week." - Montgomery Advertiser
