Washington left tackle Jaxson Kirkland (6-7, 340), whose play last season was hampered by an ankle injury, is making a surprise return to the Huskies team this year after undergoing successful surgery. The surprise is that he was able to have his eligibility reinstate after hiring an agent when he intended to enter the 2022 NFL draft. His play last year, and his rating in the draft, were not good because, as he learned after the surgery, his ankle was more than 60 percent compromised. To compensate, he kept his weight down to as low as 295 pounds, which also didn't help his draft ratings. He petitioned for reinstatement at UW and began working out and adding good weight, up to 340 pounds. In May, he was declared eligible for a sixth season. So he heads into the 2022 season with a sound ankle, about 40 more pounds of muscle and in great shape because he was able to work out hard. - Seattle Times
