Miami returns the majority of its tight ends from last season. In addition to that, they have the most continuity, coaching-wise, as tight ends coach Stephen Field is the lone member of Manny Diaz's staff who Cristobal kept on his on-field staff. "Coach Field is my guy," tight end Will Mallory said on March 9. "He's been here the last three years and I wouldn't really want to be with anyone else. Him having a previous relationship with coach Cristobal, they work well together. They know how they operate. ... He's just a great coach and great person. I was really happy to have him here.

Mallory, a fifth-year senior, led the group last year, racking up 347 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 30 receptions. "I want to be more effective in the run game and I want to be that pass-catcher that [quarterback Tyler Van Dyke] can trust all the time," Mallory said. "So that starts with me putting in the work to be able to do that, and I know I can." Mallory missed the spring game and part of spring practice with due to a shoulder injury, but Cristobal said he expected him to be back for the season. - Sun Sentinel
