Braiden McGregor and the rest of Michigan's defensive ends have heard the offseason chatter. With Aidan Hutchinson and David Ojabo both gone, electing to declare for the NFL, a couple of spots have opened up on the edge. And perhaps just as many questions. "That's the been the thing in our room, because everyone's talking about that," McGregor, who enters his redshirt sophomore season this fall, told MLive on Saturday at the Karsen Barnhart-hosted football camp for kids. "(They're saying) that's a huge question mark, and it's not a question mark. We'll be all right." Together, Hutchinson and Ojabo accounted for nearly three out of every four sacks Michigan recorded in 2021 (they combined for 25 of the team's 34), forming one of the best edge-rushing duos in the country.

Filling that hole will be difficult, maybe even impossible, but Michigan's first-year defensive coordinator (Jesse Minter) and defensive line coach (Mike Elston) both agree that production will need to come from more than two guys. Which has McGregor, who came to Michigan as a traditional end and converted to a stand-up edge rusher last year, salivating at all the possibilities. "I'm more of a second-and-long, third-down, dime-package (player)," McGregor said. "That's what I'm doing this year, and I love that role. I've talked to (David) Ojabo about it...and it's just awesome." - Ann Arbor News
